Chapter 16

The Start of Something New

A few months passed without incident, and Jake and Jeonggeun finished off the school year with a bang. Jake officially had one year left while Jeonggeun had two more years left. Allen had already graduated by then and was back home in Australia to prepare the rooms for when Jake and Jeonggeun returned for the summer.

“Jesus, I can't believe we're done with school already,” remarked Jeonggeun as he and Jake walked back home after their last class of the day.

“You know the next semester we'll be moved to afternoon classes right?” Asked Jake as he spoke in Korean to test how far Jeonggeun got with learning the language.

“Aw come on, the only thing I got out of that was afternoon,” whined Jeonggeun as he took the translator out of his pocket and put it in his ear before pocketing the charging case. “Though yes, afternoon classes are fun,” he mused, meaning he did get the gist of what Jake was saying.

“You are getting better at understanding conversations,” remarked Jake as he nodded his head. “But at some point you'll have to stop relying on the translator,” he added, speaking English again.

“I know,” sighed Jeonggeun as he shook his head. “This thing is helping a lot though,” he added, taking the translator out of his ear and putting it back in his pocket.

“Hey!” Shouted Dongju as he ran over, dragging along Chanyoung with Seobin not too far behind them. Dongju came to a stop in front of Jake and Jeonggeun as they turned to face them. “We promised a get together remember?” He asked, letting go of Chanyoung's arm and grinning in greeting.

“Right, we did,” mused Jake as he looked amused. “Dann did promise a huge dinner at his place since you, Soobin and Allen graduated,” he added.

“I figured that we were invited along, since Allen told me about it in advance?” Asked Chanyoung as he raised an eyebrow in question.

“Yes,” responded Jake as he nodded his head. “Though you'll probably need your translators, since Jeonggeun is getting better but is still lacking in the language,” he added.

“Is Jay going to be there?” Asked Seobin as he fidgeted in place, bouncing on his feet as he swayed back and forth. “I got him some markers!” He exclaimed with an excited grin.

“Sadly not, but I think Dongju is returning to the states soon,” responded Jake as he turned to Dongju for answers.

“Yes,” confirmed Dongju as he nodded in confirmation. “Though I won't be seeing Jay as often anymore I will make sure the new markers get to him, I'll even send a picture to you, okay?” He asked, turning to Seobin.

“Wait, will we be going to the palace?” Asked Jeonggeun as he finally caught onto what the others were talking about.

“It's not a palace anymore, but yes, we'll be heading to Incheon to Dann's mansion,” responded Jake as he nodded.

“Okay, I got the word mansion so yes, we're going there,” sighed Jeonggeun as he took out the translator from his pocket before he put the translator back in his ear, adjusting it to make it more comfortable.

“Do we need to change?” Asked Chanyoung as he turned to Jake.

“Nah, this will be fine, it's a casual dinner between friends, and some of the guard who's still here in Korea,” responded Jake as he nodded his head.

“I wanna see the picture! Please make sure Jay gets them!” Seobin insisted as he handed Dongju the neatly wrapped box of markers.

“I will, I promise,” reassured Dongju as he nodded his head.

“Let's keep going then, Seoho's waiting,” reminded Jake before he turned and kept walking.

The others followed after him.

When they arrived at Dann's mansion Dann was waiting outside for them with Soobin standing beside him in his guard clothing.

“Welcome everyone,” greeted Dann as Seoho led the way, dressed in his usual guard clothing. “Congrats on completing your years at school, and congratulations are in order for everyone who graduated this year,” he praised. “Enjoy the night, we're here to relax and prepare for the next few months,” he explained, moving to open the door. “Come on in,” he encouraged, Soobin pushing the other door open to let everyone in.

Jake bowed before entering the house, the others soon following after him.

The dinner went off without a problem, everyone taking their places at the table. Jake and Seobin sat across from each other, with Chanyoung and Jeonggeun beside Jake and Seobin respectively. Seoho was beside Jeonggeun while Soobin was beside Chanyoung with Dann at the head of the table.

“First of all, congrats Soobin and Dongju for finishing your last year and getting your degree,” started Dann as he held up a toast for Soobin and Dongju. “As for Jake and Jeonggeun, congratulations on making it through another year and I hope that you start the next semester strong,” he added. “As for Chanyoung, congratulations on finishing your first year, going to that university can be harrowing the first year, but you made it,” he concluded. “To the upcoming semester!” He shouted, moving his cup forward for a toast.

“To the next semester!” Cheered everyone as they toasted, glasses clanking before everyone took a sip of their drinks.

Jeonggeun leaned against the wall, watching Jake interact with Seobin who was excitedly showing him some of the pictures he had colored in.

“He seems good with kids huh?” Asked Soobin as he joined Jeonggeun, crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned against the wall.

“Mmm,” Jeonggeun hummed in agreement, blinking as he turned to Soobin. “What brings you over to hang out with me anyway?” He asked, speaking in Korean to try and test out his conversational skills. He still had his translator in his ear, just in case he didn't completely understand something for the moment.

“I'm just checking on the guests,” responded Soobin as he shrugged. “You seemed lonely,” he added.

“I'm fine,” grumbled Jeonggeun as he shook his head. “…I'm just not looking forward to the trip home,” he admitted with a sigh.

“That's within the next few days isn't it?” Asked Soobin.

“It is,” replied Jeonggeun as he shrugged. “I don't mind going home, but at the same time I've spent so much time here that it feels like home," he explained. “It feels like home? I guess?” He asked.

“I get it,” reassured Soobin as he nodded his head.

Dongju spoke with Chanyoung, who was keeping an eye on Seobin as he and Jake talked over what picture to color next in the book he was coloring. “You seem to really care about your brother,” remarked Dongju as he stood beside Chanyoung.

“After the accident I swore to do everything to help him,” explained Chanyoung as he shook his head. “Sometimes I even wonder if I'm doing enough, but he seems happy enough,” he added. “After I lost Jimin, well,” he sighed, stuffing his hands in his pockets. “Jimin took to Seobin like he was part of his own family, and tried to help when he could,” he explained. “So I stepped up after his death,” he added.

“How long has it been since the accident?” Asked Dongju.

“About 4 years? 5 years?” Asked Chanyoung as he thought about it. “Seobin's resourceful, even after the accident,” he explained. “So he was able to bounce back relatively quickly,” he added. “But it's a mystery whether his mind will revert back to normal or not,” he mused, looking thoughtful.

“Does he have a soulmate?” Asked Dongju.

“I think so,” responded Chanyoung as he nodded his head. “But it's just a name, in messy handwriting,” he explained. “It's hard to read it, but I think it said Zuho or something,” he added. “I haven't had a good chance to look, since Seobin tends to flinch due to physical contact,” he explained.

“A side effect of the accident I guess?” Asked Dongju.

“Mhm,” hummed Chanyoung.

~

“I think this one is good to color next!” Pointed out Seobin as he pointed to the page.

“That is a good one!” Agreed Jake as he grinned good naturedly. “Here, let me help you, okay?” He asked, making sure Seobin gave his consent before taking a marker and starting to color.

Seobin giggled, taking another marker and starting to color in another part of the page.

“Are you having fun, Seobin?” Asked Chanyoung after he walked over to observe them.

“Yes!” Exclaimed Seobin as he nodded eagerly. “So many markers!” He almost shouted, only quieting down when he remembered where he was. “I wish I had this many,” he nearly whined, pouting as he looked down at the book.

“This is Dann's markers, remember,” pointed out Jake as he shook his head. “Don't lose them okay?” He asked.

“Mhm,” agreed Seobin as he nodded, going back to coloring.

“Sorry to interrupt, but Hwon sent word to get you to the airport immediately,” interrupted Dann as he walked over with Jake and Jeonggeun's passports. “Do not worry about your things, they will be there when you get back,” he added.

“Jesus, I didn't think we would need to get back immediately,” grumbled Jake as he stood, dusting off his pants before calling out to Jeonggeun. “It's time to go!” He called, causing Jeonggeun to run over. “Did something big happen?” He asked, turning to Dann.

“I can't say, but Seoho will you to the airport," explained Dann as he handed Jake his passport before turning and handing Jeonggeun's passport to him. “Be safe,” he said in goodbye before stepping away.

Seoho walked over with a guard jacket for Jake and handed it to him. “So Security won't question us,” he explained as Jake put the jacket on. “It's not Hwon's, but it'll get you through,” he added. “We'll make it look like you're escorting Jeonggeun and go from there,” he explained.

“Got it,” reassured Jake as he nodded his head.

Jeonggeun nodded to the terms, and the three of them left, heading to the airport.

Chapter 2: Jeonggeun wants to seem more confident and also he prefers to ignore important things such as the color of the rose on his palm.

Black has mostly negative meaning but maybe for the boys it will have a unique meaning!

Chapter 1: Jake has to be really careful as Jeonggeun can cause some trouble or a fight could break out. It is understandable that Jeonggeun is not happy, who would want someone constantly watching them? But he has no choice. His backstory makes me very curious, I wonder what happened with his brother. Why did he leave Jeonggeun ?

Jake isn’t much better, he has to make sure that he and his family won’t have to pay for their father’s debt.

So far the story seems pretty interesting. Good job, author!
