Chapter 11

The Start of Something New

Jeonggeun took notes as he listened to the professor drone on and on about the lesson for the day. He had a lot of other things on his mind at the moment and couldn't focus too much on the lesson but the translator was helping him keep focused enough to write everything down at least.

“What's on your mind today?” Asked Dongju as he drowned out the lesson of the day.

“Am I allowed to have friends?” asked Jeonggeun as he looked up, turning to Dongju. “I feel like because of who I'm hanging out with I haven't been able to make friends, except those who are in the guard,” he explained.

“I'm sure that Jake would've let you make a friend or two,” responded Dongju. “I mean I'm not part of the guard and I'm a friend, I think," he added. “Only if you want me to be of course,” he added as an afterthought.

“It'd be nice to speak to someone else in English for once,” mumbled Jeonggeun as he started writing notes again. “I don't want to be a bother though,” he added as an afterthought.

“Don't worry about it,” reassured Dongju. “You're not a bother, believe me,” he added. “Besides, if you were then I don't think Hwon would've kept you around for as long as he did,” he explained as an afterthought.

“I guess so,” mumbled Jeonggeun, adjusting the translator in his ear before leaning back in his chair as the professor stopped talking.

Jeonggeun left the classroom with Dongju, the both of them walking in comfortable silence. The silence didn't last very long though, as a voice called out to them.

“Hey!” Called Chanyoung as he ran over, stopping when Dongju and Jeonggeun turned around to face Chanyoung. “I thought I recognized you,” he remarked, grinning at Jeonggeun who chuckled nervously at him.

“Dongju this is Chanyoung,” Jeonggeun said in introduction as he motioned to Chanyoung. “He's the one who ”saved me" from jumping off the bridge that one day though I was only there to relax," he explained.

“Ah,” hummed Dongju, his head tilting to the side as he studied Chanyoung, grinning as he relaxed into a neutral stance. “It's nice to meet you,” he greeted, speaking Korean as Chanyoung blinked in surprise.

“Oh, you know Korean! This is less awkward then,” commented Chanyoung as he let out an awkward chuckle. “Where are you two going?” He asked.

“We're meeting up with one of Jeonggeun's roommates for lunch,” responded Dongju. “If you wanted to join us?” He asked.

“I'm meeting with my little brother for lunch, but maybe another day?” Asked Chanyoung.

Dongju turned to Jeonggeun who nodded in response. “Yeah, sure,” responded Dongju as he turned back to Chanyoung. “See you around then,” he said in goodbye before turning and walking away, dragging Jeonggeun with him.

“Bye,” called Chanyoung as they both disappeared from view.

~

“What was that all about?” Asked Jeonggeun once they were out of earshot.

“He's very sad,” explained Dongju as he spoke English again. “Like, I don't know what's wrong with him but it seems like he lost his soulmate,” he added.

“I forgot you can feel this kind of thing,” mumbled Jeonggeun as he let out a soft sigh. “I didn't know, that would explain why we seem to keep meeting at that bridge,” he remarked with a thoughtful look. “It may have also explained the look Jake had given him when they met for the first time,” he mused, shaking his head to change the subject. “Come on, Jake's expecting us,” he added as an afterthought, grabbing Dongju by the arm and dragging him away.

“Jake,” started Jeonggeun as they sat in the cafeteria eating lunch. “I never thought I'd have to ask this question but, am I allowed to make friends?” He asked, blinking at Jake's confused look.

“What makes you think I wouldn't allow you to make friends?” Asked Jake as he put down his spoon, focusing on Jeonggeun now as he leaned back in his seat.

“Well, when Minyoung accompanied me home he was killed because of what he did, and now with Chanyoung you seemed to judge him immediately,” explained Jeonggeun.

“Minyoung was someone I was looking for for a while,” explained Jake as he shook his head. “And Chanyoung you can be friends with, if you want,” he added. “I only judged him because he was someone new, but also because he lost his soulmate, if the feeling I had was correct,” he explained.

“I had the same feeling too, so it's a possibility,” chimed in Dongju as he nodded his head. “I'd want to be his friend, he seems to be alone,” he added.

“I'm not going to stop you from having other friends, in fact I encourage it,” explained Jake. “Though I don't know if you'll have much luck since your Korean is choppy at best,” he added with a chuckle.

“Oi,” whined Jeonggeun. “I'm trying okay?” He asked, sighing as he went back to eating.

Jeonggeun approached Chanyoung as they once again met on the bridge. Jeonggeun made sure to have his translator in his ear before coming to a stop in front of Chanyoung. “You wanted to see me?” He asked, his head tilting to the side in question as he slumped into a neutral stance.

“You have your translator?” Asked Chanyoung as he turned to Jeonggeun who nodded. “Okay, I know you primarily speak English so I got one too, though it's not as high tech as yours,” he added, motioning to the headphone cord hanging around his neck connected to his phone which was in his back pocket. “Sadly google translate can only get me so far so excuse me if my replies are slow,” he explained, putting one of the earbuds in his left ear and grinning sheepishly at Jeonggeun.

Jeonggeun chuckled, shaking his head before turning to look out at the water. “This is more than a casual talk isn't it?” He asked, leaning against the railing.

Chanyoung hummed, nodding when the app finished translating for him. “I figured you'd want to become friends, though I wanted to explain some things to you before you end up running away like everyone else,” he muttered, sighing before repeating it louder in case Jeonggeun's translator didn't pick up on everything.

“Go on,” encouraged Jeonggeun as he prepared himself for this conversation.

“Well,” started Chanyoung as he turned towards the water and leaned against the railing. “Everything started out fine, you know?" He asked. “I lived a normal life with my family and I met my soulmate early surprisingly,” he explained. “I had his name tattooed on my chest,” he added. “So I knew his name, but I didn't know who he was until one day during gym class I saw my name tattooed on his back,” he explained as an afterthought, pausing to make sure Jeonggeun was following along.

Jeonggeun nodded his head, indicating to Chanyoung that he was following along.

“The stupid part about it is, that he also had another name tattooed somewhere else on his body, I couldn't really see it because his back was turned to me,” explained Chanyoung. “We tried to make it work, but then he met his other soulmate,” he added. “He was rejected for some stupid reason and well, I'm sure you can understand where I'm going with this," he explained, pausing to let Jeonggeun take in his words.

“What was his name?” Asked Jeonggeun as he turned to Chanyoung.

“His name was Jimin, and the person who was his other soulmate was named Minyoung,” explained Chanyoung, blinking in confusion when Jeonggeun gasped in surprise.

Chapter 2: Jeonggeun wants to seem more confident and also he prefers to ignore important things such as the color of the rose on his palm.

Black has mostly negative meaning but maybe for the boys it will have a unique meaning!

Chapter 1: Jake has to be really careful as Jeonggeun can cause some trouble or a fight could break out. It is understandable that Jeonggeun is not happy, who would want someone constantly watching them? But he has no choice. His backstory makes me very curious, I wonder what happened with his brother. Why did he leave Jeonggeun ?

Jake isn’t much better, he has to make sure that he and his family won’t have to pay for their father’s debt.

So far the story seems pretty interesting. Good job, author!
