The spirits were in unrest. Instead of being their normal, pacified selves the cemetery was alive with mutters, whispers, and groans.

Byul was perched on the highest branch of the willow tree in the center of the cemetery. Behind her, the dark silhouette of her parent's mortuary loomed menacingly. It was a dreary and bleak day, even though it was in the middle of July.

Byul was trying to compose a sonnet. Emphasis on trying - with all the noise surrounding her, she couldn't concentrate at all. Frustrated, she threw her notebook down at the damp grass and snapped her head up to meet the eyes of the ghosts that were bothering her.

"Yah! Do you guys have no shame? Bothering a person that's diligently trying to work, jincha." Byul huffed at the first ghost. He was floating above her, hovering around so that cold wind slapped her face with his every movement.

The boy, who was about Byul's age, smiled bashfully. "Mianhae, Byul-ah. I just wanted to see what you were working on. You seemed really into it, you know?"

"Aish, Jun Ha, you really know how to get on my nerves. Too bad I can't smack you right now." Byul glared lasers up at him, half joking and half serious.

"Hey! Byul! Who did Frankenstein take to prom?" Jun Ha sat next to Byul, his eyes bright. "His ghoul friend! Aw that was a knee-slapper!"

Byul stifled her smile and snapped, "Not funny. Don't you have something else to do than bother me? Its like you like me or something!"

Jun Ha turned red (or rather, the ghost equivalent), and continued with his ongoing train of bad puns. "What was the witch's best subject in school? Spelling!"

This time, Byul cracked a small smile. "Thank you, I'll be here all night," Jun Ha bowed cheesily.

Just then, an fallen angel-messenger whizzed by the tree, halted in her tracks, and zoomed full speed back to Byul. She zipped around, excited about something.

"Yah Soori, calm down and deliver your message. Did you have sugar on your cereal this morning again?" Byul pointed her finger at Soori.

"Thats not important right now! Okay, I just caught word from my leader that Star Empire Academy is opening its doors for new students! Only nine though. And they have to be girls with 'special' backgrounds." Soori said all in one breath.

Byul's eyes widened. "Star Empire Academy? You mean the one in the forest where shady things happen? The one that scouts kids randomly from around the world? Opening its doors?"

Soori nodded quickly. "Thats why you should try out, Byul-ah. You have to send in your application by angel-messenger, and guess who's your girl?" As though she thought Byul wouldn't get it, Soori pointed at herself. "Me! So you should totally go, Byul-ah. Let Jun Ha sweet-talk your parents."

Jun Ha looked downcast. *Theres a reason why I'm here with you, Byul-ah. Why go and leave me?*
