CHAPTER 13: Beginning and End

The man looked at the sky through his bedroom window. The dusk sky presented an orange tinge that looks the same as the past dusk. But he knew that similarities and differences are relative. That dusk might look beautiful, like a gold tapestry that drove the sun back to its bed. However, it may also be that the dusk looks like the murderer of the sun, smearing the world with blood. It all depends on the point of view where dusk is seen. What different is not the dusk, but how it is interpreted.

Daniel took a deep breath. His mind raged. The simple afternoon was like a complicated ballad on his head. It has been four days since he was hospitalized after the accident that night.

He suffered a severe concussion due to a in hard collision in his head. The doctor should also attach a metal pen to connect his shoulder bone.

Daniel had thought that night was the end of everything. Yet God still gives him a chance. A chance to change what happens. But what's the point, when he changes, his brother also changes his point of view.

The last time he saw Seongwoo was when his moment of consciousness returned briefly after the accident. Despite his blurred vision, Daniel could still see Seongwoo's worry face. Especially when he heard Seongwoo saying, "Hang on, Geon ah .." while helping the nurse take him to the ER room. I'm sorry, hyung. Daniel said it inwardly, before then came back unconscious.

He didn't know how long he slept. As soon as he opened his eyes, he was already in a room accompanied by Jisung, Jaehwan, and Jinyoung.

"NIEL, NIEL. DO YOU STILL REMEMBER ME ??" Jaehwan asked as soon as he saw Daniel opened his eyes.

Somehow, Daniel felt that Jaehwan's face was the cuteest welcome after his long sleep. "You're very noisy, Hwan."

Daniel replied as usual, making Jaehwan felt at ease. He then said even more loudly, "THANK YOU GOD! DANIEL HAS BEEN BACK!"

Jisung beside him, looked at Daniel with relief. "Yeah .. Thank God you're okay, Niel .."

Daniel smiled back, trying to get up. But Jinyoung immediately tried to stop him. "Hyung, you cannot get up yet."

Sure enough, his left side body couldn't be moved and his head instantly dizzy. "Don't move, Niel. You even need to have surgery after this." Jisung said sadly.

After going through various checks, Daniel then underwent a surgery to fix his broken left shoulder bone using metal pins, making him have to rest completely.

People came to visit him. His friends at Dongho's workshop came and encouraged him by saying that a broken bone injury was natural for a racer. But their statement was immediately disputed by Dongho, "Daniel is speeding on the highway, not on the right track, that's wrong and dangerous." The rebuttal stunned them, "Joking, hyung .. Joking .."

Seokhoon also came to see Daniel and it made him guilty. He repeatedly apologized for damaging his bike. But Seokhoon said, "It's okay, I don't really like Babyblade either, maybe she should have retired." Seokhoon even bore the cost of Daniel's treatment at the hospital because he felt that the accident was partly his fault for asking Daniel to increase the bike power that might make Daniel difficult to control it. Daniel was feeling guilty because he felt all of this is pure his mistake. But Dongho assured him that if he refuses Seokhoon's help, it would hurt him.

Giae was never absent visiting Daniel at the hospital. On one of her visits, she brought a healing bone potion made by his mother. "I bring the potion that have inherited in Song Family special for you, Niel."

Jaehwan who happened to be on duty, immediately commented, "Don't drink it, Niel, it could be a love potion."

Hearing that, Giae burst out laughing. Especially when Daniel responded with jokes. "Then you just drink it, Hwan."

"Damn you two!" Giae laughed with Daniel and Jaehwan.

Sungwoon and his family also came, not just visit him but also take turns to accompany him in the hospital. Daniel also apologized to. Sungwoon's mom because of this accident he cannot work and may interfere activity of the restaurant. However, Sungwoon's mom just said, "Don't say so .. You're my son too ..". Sungwoon's mom words instantly made Daniel's heart warm.

He felt very lucky to be surrounded by many nice people. And when thinking of it, Daniel cannot help thinking about Seongwoo. How Seongwoo has been so good at accepting everything that happened without blaming him. But Daniel himself wasn't grateful for it.

Gradually Daniel began to change his mindset. In his little heart, he waited for his meeting with Seongwoo when he came to visit. But it turns out, the person he anticipated never came.

Since the first Daniel awakened, his heart has asked where the person whom he saw escorted him to the ER. Did he not know I already wake up? Thought Daniel. But day after day, Seongwoo never come.

Sometimes when he heard the door of his room opened, he hoped that Seongwoo who came. But over and over again, Daniel had to accept that it wasn't him who came.

Even when Minhyun came to visit, Seongwoo didn't come along. Daniel was anxious to ask that question to Minhyun, but his lips glued. The question could never get out of his lips, so all he could do was wait and wait.

Daniel had wondered whether his friends know about what had happened before the accident or not, because none of them discussed it while accompanying him in the hospital. They all agreed to conclude that the accident could happen because of a bike power that is too difficult to control. But Daniel knew that it isn't the cause.

"Ready to go home, Niel?" asked Minhyun interrupting his thoughts.

"Oh, hyung has come? Y-yes, hyung .." Daniel answered in stutter.

Dongho who joined Minhyun to pick up Daniel, also asked, "Where is Jisung hyung?"

Daniel who had been busy with his thoughts didn't realize Jisung excused himself out to take care of the administration. "Mmm .. Jisung hyung .."

He couldn't finish his sentence and it made Minhyun worried. "Are you still dizzy?"

"Ah .. no, hyung .." Daniel replied lying, because actually he still feels dizzy because of something else.

Minhyun took a deep breath before speaking to Dongho, "You should not let him do the test drive. If you were the one who did the test drive, this accident probably won't happen."

Dongho was a bit surprised by Minhyun's statement. "Why do you blame me? Daniel used to test drive, after all, he was the one who set the bike, why should I do the test drive? People whose jobs only counting money knows nothing about the bike. "

Minhyun didn't want to lose. "Why are you mentioning my profession?"

Dongho might have replied to Minhyun's argument if Jisung didn't come at the right time. "Hey, hey, if you two meet, you always fight, but if you don't meet, you ask each other." Jisung said commenting on Minhyun and Dongho's friendship, which then made them silently embarrassed.

Jisung passed them both and approached Daniel. "Let's go home, Niel."

"Administration is all cleared, hyung?" asked Minhyun.

"Yes.."

"Then we're ready to go home. I just need to take this bag, Hyung?" asked Dongho while carrying a black huge bag.

"Yeah, that's it ..." Jisung replied as he helped Daniel to get up.

Daniel was able to walk on his own because his feet were only bruised. But his left hand and shoulder was still bandaged and covered with a sling, so he could only use his right hand. It made his hyungs treat him like a baby.

Daniel is self-reliant and stubborn. He doesn't like to bother other people, so the usual Daniel, would have said, "Hyung, I'm okay .." "I can do it, hyung .." "Don't treat me like a child, you embarrass me." But this Daniel who just came out of this hospital just silently received all the special treatment from his friends. The thought of Seongwoo has managed to take over the whole portion of his mind.
