Description

What would you do if your family has been cursed by death before a certain age?

Sandara Park didn’t want to believe it but seeing how a number of her blood relatives had been struck with the curse, she’s left to feel more anxious as the years pass by.

It was a weird and completely ridiculous phenomenon but it was true—heck, their relatives were even documented one time because of it. The cause of deaths varied too. They didn’t die just because of a deadly, incurable genetic disease. Great grandma Han (née Park) died because of drowning in a Jacuzzi. Her kind uncle Park who always gave away too much cash (god bless his soul) got electrocuted by the same creature that killed Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin (god bless his soul too). And her father who she lost when she was 4 died in his sleep only later to find out that he had a spontaneous heart failure in the middle of the night.

They all died in different ways yet there was one factor that all of them oddly shared. They all died before the age of 30. Scientifically explainable? Hell no. Completely bizarre that it almost goes to the point of absurdity? Oh god yes!

But even that, it was all still real and all still frightening—especially if you’re already in your mid-20’s with the thought of that godforsaken curse creeping up on you. She was thankful that her mother wasn’t going to be affected because she didn’t have any Park blood but... Sandara Park had. The anxious 26 year old had way too much dreams that needed to be fulfilled. She wanted to bungee jump, go to a different country, scuba dive with the fishes… name it all!

But the only thing that she really wanted to do before she died was make a family of her own.

The last one was difficult since she hasn't been in a decent relationship for so long. And as unbelievable as it sounds, no one seems to be interested in her because she was notorious for her temporary tendencies. Despite the fact, she had romanticized the idea of making her own family for the longest time. She saw how happy her parents had been together—especially her father. She wanted to be happy like that too… to come home to smiles, and hugs, and kisses!

But could she make it knowing the uncertain amount of time she has left?

Now enter in Kwon Jiyong, her best friend for almost two decades. He was 4 years younger than her but he seemed more 'mature' because of his pragmatic and apathetic nature. Sandara used to be his one and only babysitter solely because of the fact that she was his neighbor. Let's just say that they lived in simpler times. Anyways as years passed by, they eventually broke the barrier between their care-taker/baby relationship.

And now they were bffs~!

Jiyong here was your typical best friend—always there for you, helps you make excuses, and a huge pain in the . But you know that whatever ed up thing they do, you’ll still love them to pieces.

However, her love for him was greater than she could have ever imagine. Does he know though? Nope. Why? Oh you know how it goes! GASP! Unrequited love?!

Well, let’s find out.

Loosely based-on and inspired by a Filipino movie called "My Only Ü" that stars Toni Gonzaga and Vhong Navarro, directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina~!

Foreword

“Yeah, so I told Seunghyun to go off and hump a lamp post because there was no way in hell I’m letting that disaster room with me.” Jiyong laughed and glanced at the girl beside him only to see her stop a few steps back.

Sighing, he walked over to her and reached her within seconds. Before he could ask her what was wrong, he saw Dara slowly going down on one knee and looking up at him with a fiery conviction in her eyes. Jiyong blinked, furrowing and unfurrowing his brows confusedly. Soon, he snapped out of his reverie because of the people that were crowding them.

“Y-Yah! What are you doing? Stand up!” he hissed, trying to pull her up but it seems like she was glued to the ground.

“She’s proposing!!” One squealed.

Jiyong’s head quickly turned to the voice and pointed angrily at them, “No she is not!” he yelled. “She is not proposing. She could’ve been tying her shoes for all you ers think!”

“The girl’s wearing heels, dude.” Another one chimed in.

“Go yourself, man.” He spat back.

“Kwon Jiyong.” The man slowly turned to her, pale in the face and cold as ice. “We’ve been friends for about two decades and there wasn’t a day where I wasn’t happy to see you. I love you.” She said solemnly making him widen his eyes. “I’ve been in love for you ever since I laid eyes on you. You came to my house in the middle of the night when you were 8 because you were scared of the monsters in your closet. I admit, that was pretty unmanly but my love for you didn’t fade. Plus, you were really cute back then…” There was an audible round of restrained chuckles from the crowd and Jiyong threw them all a hard glare.

Dara took an intake of breath. “I want to spend the rest of my life with you…” she said shakily, her eyes looking somewhat desperate. “I want to spend my last days with you, Kwon Jiyong.” He stilled at her statement and clenched his jaw. “I’m sorry if this is so sudden but I… I-I don’t have much time left.” She mumbled. “Please marry me.” The girl then pulled something out from her pocket and opened a velvet box that revealed a simple ring, hands trembling still. The sight made people gasp and squeal but Jiyong stayed rooted on his spot, completely overwhelmed.

“Marry me.” She repeated. Discreetly, Dara’s hand crept to his and tried to wear the ring around his finger to seal the deal but he suddenly snatched his hand back. The girl jumped in surprise, accidentally sending herself to the ground while the audience watched curiously and scandalously.

Jiyong looked at her with a mixture of confusion, frustration, regret, and incredulity. When he took a tentative step back, she already knew what his answer was. Dara dusted herself off and pushed herself off the ground, never breaking eye contact with the clearly conflicted man in front of her.

“It didn’t work, did it?”

He slowly shook his head, brows deeply furrowed. She sighed and shrugged before suddenly walking away. It took him a solid minute to finally snap out of his reverie. He quickly turned around only to find her a few metres away with a raised brow. “Well?” she mused.

“Well what?” Now he was more confused.

Dara looked at him like he was the slowest and stupidest being on Earth, “What did Seunghyun say?” she said with a ‘duh’ tone. The crowd gathered around them didn’t cut short to all the confusion.

“What?” it came out unbelieving. “What is going on—”

“What did Seunghyun say when you told him he can’t move in with you?” she cut him off and practically dragged him out of the crowd with a few ‘excuse me’s’ and ‘sorry’s’. When they finally got out, she repeated, “What did Seunghyun say?” she asked excitedly.

His brain was getting too fried and he had to stop walking, making Dara stop too. Jiyong scrutinized Dara with a suspicious eye while the latter just blinked up at him with a small smile on her lips. “What just happened there, Dara?” he asked, quietly staring at her.

“I proposed to you.” She shrugged nonchalantly again. His jaw slightly dropped at her blunt response and before he could form any coherent words, she cut him off again. “But I guess it didn’t work.” She sighed a very woeful sigh, “I’ll try again tomorrow.”

“W-Wait… what?!”

“Look, they’re selling corndogs!!!”

And the next thing he knew, Dara was running towards the little corndog booth with him left stunned and speechless. A few families and some strangers walked past him, casually minding their own business and talking amongst themselves. The faint laughter of children rang in his ears as his eyes stayed glued on the idiot girl who was grinning at the mustached corndog vendor. Then suddenly, Dara caught his gaze and smiled at him. Unconsciously, the blood rushed up to his face.

“WHAT THE , SANDARA PARK???!!!!!”

Chapter 36: Spoilers ahead! Sorry I just had to vouce this out. I admit that the there are times when I had to read back to previous paragraphs just to know I got what's going on. I like the concept of (Ji and Dara of different lifetimes) meeting in his dream. Also meeting his past life in his dream. And the concept where Ji and Dara's past lives were shown, gods and godesses, past lives and dreams. But I'm kind of still left with the questions - did he really end up dying fast forward in 2018 or will it now change since he admitted his feelings earlier (2017, present)? Anyways, good job again author-nim! ?? more like this please!
