oh man a long chapter! i'm actually going back to school on monday so chapters will be coming out slowly but here you are! i hope you enjoy this since this i have a clear vision of how i want this tbh... so we're nearing where all characters will meet each other soon.... c: as always, comment and all that jazz. if you haven't completed the interactions yet i'm gonna make out however they would interact with each other (unless the other person already wrote some) sooo yeah. there we go. and please, if you have another side characters that you just thought of that would suit your character please put it in your relationships and tell me and i'll go check it out!
JUNG NAEUN'S POV
I've been meeting Woori for the longest time now - dealing with the serious stuff with her about her divorce; settling who will own the house in the end and all that. And today, I'm seeing her again to pick up the file of the finished relationship between her and her ex-husband: Sooyoon.
Every time I meet Woori to talk about her case we always have a fun time, as weird as it sounds, I want to consider her as a friend. But is that stepping over my boundaries since I'm just helping her with this divorce? She told me some other problems - nothing that really hurt her but rather something that I'm thankful for her to mention it to me. Me? I don't think I've told her anything heavy for her to want to be friends with me.
I'm waiting anxiously inside a cafe before we go off to our spa appointment. Do I have a right to ask her to be friends with me after we're done with her divorce case? Of course, you have a right Naeun! You're a human being too! I honestly do not know why I'm fretting over this - if anything, I already consider her a close friend of mine.
I decided that I couldn't just drink water while waiting and thinking, so I went in line to order. I quickly dialed Woori's number and waited for her to answer.
"Hello, Naeun! I'm almost at the cafe actually, the traffic is horrible where I'm at. But I should be there in around ten minutes?"
Her calling me by my first name reminded me that we did agree on calling each other by our first names. Even if we are to talk during work or if we are just side tracking ourself. We agreed to call each other by our given name - not "Miss."
"A-ah, Woori - it's fine! I actually just called to see if you wanted anything to drink? I'm in line."
"Oh! Hmm... Well can you get me anything! Just make sure it's cold or there's ice in there and it's sweet!"
Huh? She wants me to pick for her? I mean I don't mind but I hate picking for other people!
"Oh... Okay. I'm just wondering but are you driving here? Because I could have picked you up..."
"How thoughtful of you~ But no, I didn't. I'm in a taxi right now, actually. I didn't have work today so I went to go pick up the documents that Sooyoon had to sign."
"Oh. I see." I felt awkward after she mentioned her ex-husband, but it didn't seem like she minded, but I still couldn't help but feel rather awkward about it.
"Oh hey! I'm actually going to be there in like five minutes! I'll hang-up now. See you soon~" She said with an abrupt hang-up.
It was then my turn to order which I quickly looked at the menu then asked for one iced americano and an iced mocha for Woori. Which I quietly hoped that she didn't mind me getting this drink for her.
I continued to look through my phone, minding my business until I felt a quick tap on my shoulder. Turning around to see Woori smiling at me, "I hope I didn't take long?"
"Haha, you didn't. I was very early, to be honest." I said and put my phone away. We walked to a table waiting for our drinks until the barista called out my name.
"I'll go get the drinks, you wait here." I quickly got up to get the beverages with straws.
Returning to the table she thanked me, "Woah, what type of drink is this?"
"Huh? Oh, it's a mocha. I didn't know what to get you... Have you tried a mocha?" I asked while handing her a straw.
She opened the straw and poked it into her drink, "Nope. But I'm willing to try it. I always get the same old same old frappe, that gets tiring so I'm open to trying new drinks!"
Woori sipped her drink slowly and she looked at me with a sudden shock, "It's actually really good. Oh my gosh. I think I'm going to order this for now on... Wow! This is definitely my style. We actually have some time to kill before our appointment should we just chill here?" She gave me a thumbs up while sipping it again.
I smiled faintly while nodding and immersed myself in the bitter beverage until Woori clapped suddenly as if she remembered something.
"Ah, Naeun, can you check these documents to make sure it's all right? I didn't really get to check it out when I was at Sooyoon's place... I kind of wanted to leave as soon as possible, ya know?" She asked while giving me the leather folder that held all the important documents that settled her relationship with Sooyoon.
I nodded, "Sure, it's no problem. I'll check it now, actually." I took the folder from her, opening the folder and going through each paper to make sure it was done correctly - as in they both agreed to whatever was written on the paper.
In the midst of inspecting the papers, I heard Woori whistling at me in a flirtatious way, "What? Did something happen?"
"Oh, no, no~ Nothing. It's just that you look really pretty when you're in work mode you know? I've been wanting to tell you that. You have a charm when you're working - did you know that? I bet all the dudes at your firm check you out secretly~" She cooed and gave me a cheeky smile.
"Ahh, shut up," I told her while closing the file, "The documents are in good condition too. So you don't have to worry about it now. I just have to go file this at my company and you can leave the rest to us."
The female gave me a thumbs up, "Should we head out now?"
I nodded - taking the folder, beverage and guiding Woori to my car outside. I unlocked the car and sat in the driver's seat. I started to put my drink in the cup holder while Woori put the one besides me.
"Can you put this in the compartment?" I handed Woori the folder after she buckled in her seat belt.
"You have a really nice car." Woori said in awe as she put the folder away, I laughed quietly as I put on my seat belt, starting my car.
"Thank you," I beamed quietly and started our way to the spa, "Have you been to this spa before?"
"A few times but I haven't been there recently... And I'm long overdue for a spa day for myself. So I can't wait to actually relax after all that has been happening at work," Woori said while looking through the window, "OH! I actually have coupons too! So let's use these up before it expires~."
"Same, I'm in a great need for a spa day. I want a massage the most. I'm aching all over, I feel dead."
"You feel dead? But you don't look like it," the passenger mumbled and looked out the window. With a brief silence, she then asked, "Hey Naeun... Be honest... How often do the guys at your firm confess to you?"
I was taken aback by her question, "Er... Well... A few times, but nothing recently... I'm dating someone."
"Ohh... Really?! How long?" she asked excitedly and waited for my answer.
I hummed, "A year and like three months." I couldn't help but form a shy smile thinking about my boyfriend.
She whistled, "What's his name?"
"Seunghyun - Lee Seunghyun."
"Woah~ He sounds like a keeper." She sang teasingly.
I hope he is a keeper.
The rest of the drive ended up with pleasant chatter of different topics.
When we arrived at the spa we started off with a massage. We were both in the same room and we were separated by a partition screen.
After our session they allowed us to rest in the room for a bit which I was slowly drifting off to sleep until Woori asked me something, "Hey, Naeun? I think you should meet my friends - I think you'll get along with them."
"Hmm..?"
"I mean only if you want to meet my friends, that is..." She said and slowly trailed off at the end as if she took back what she said.
"Oh, I didn't mean it like that," I said slowly, "I'd like that."
But wait! Does that already mean that she considers me as a friend too? I grinned to myself at this thought. I have a friend - and maybe more.
"Oh by the way, what are you going to do now? You're not living in the house anymore... Did you find a place to stay at?"
"I decided to live with one of my friends, so I already have most of the boxes out of the house," The female sighed happily, "Most of the heavy load is now off my shoulders. I feel light."
"That's good." I hummed.
"Yep," She mumbled and I slowly rest my eyes from the silence until she broke it shortly again, "Naeun, when do you think it's good sign that means I 'moved on?'"
"What do you mean by that?" I asked quietly as I fluttered my eyes to stay awake with this new topic.
"I mean, I'm pretty sure I'm 'over' with Sooyoon - whatever that means. But at the same time, I can't help but feel like I'm pacing myself a bit too fast. But what am I supposed to do? I understand he wants things to end between us - and I'm not going to stop it. If he wants it why should I linger on, right? But what exactly is a sign that I moved on?" She explained with a break, "I personally think it's when I find someone new... But would people think I've moved on too fast?"
"Honestly, I think that's how everyone moves on. I think people would think you've moved on too 'fast' but at the same time, if your heart doesn't feel the same way for Sooyoon, then you probably are over him. I don't think it matters, do what you want. I personally think you're ready to move on. Besides, I'm sure the next guy you meet, he's going to treat you right."
She smiled, "Thank you."
"Why? Do you have a date lined up already?" I asked teasingly.
"Haha no... My company is going to be hosting a matchmaking event sometime this year but I'm not sure if I want to participate in it, you know? You can meet some weird people at these types of events too..." A faint blush started forming on her cheeks as she shyly admitted the event.
"I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Besides, I think you might meet a few gems at the event. Maybe you should go if you're not working that day?" I suggested and she slowly nodded in agreement.
We were met in silence again, I wanted to ask Woori about her troubles being deaf since she mentioned that she'll tell me the time she was bullied when she was a kid but is that rude to ask? I decided to save it for another time.
"Naeun, do you happen to work with this guy named Park Haejin?" Woori asked suddenly which made my eyes widen. What exactly is she going with from here?
"Um... Yes, I do..."
"Do you like him?" She bluntly asked a bit quickly.
"No? Well I can't say that I like nor hate him... I just feel like whenever I see him at work I feel iffy about him. Why?"
"I see, well... Remember when I told you that I was bullied for being deaf? He actually bullied me. My cousin, Min Yeonha, actually works in the same company as you... But I didn't know if it was the same Park Haejin that she was talking about. But she told me to ask you if you knew him since he works in the same department as you."
"Oh no... Well - I mean, yes, we work in the same department. But really? Park Haejin bullied you?" I asked and she nodded.
"I mean, I'm not trying to come across as 'omg you know Park Haejin? Lemme tell you what he did so you must also hate him too' type of person, but I prefer not to associate myself with him after all the bullying. It might trigger something haha... And I know it's been years so I thought he'd just forget about it and move on... But Yeonha told me that she overheard him talking to his friend about me when she went out for ramen during her lunch break."
"I see... That does make sense though... But you've never done anything to him? And he bullied you?" I asked with my head not picking up on his reasoning for bullying my friend.
"That's basically it."
I couldn't help but scoff at my thoughts now changing on the male lawyer that's at my firm, "Don't worry. If he's really going to ask everyone in the company if he knows you I won't say anything unless you decide to change your mind."
She smiled with relief and thanked me. Though I couldn't help but judge Haejin even more now. Maybe that's why I felt iffy with Haejin from the start. Every time I made eye contact with him he would just avoid it. Did he think that if people knew that he bullied someone he'd get fired..? I never really liked the man from the start... Maybe I'll treat the way that he should have been treated twenty years ago.
