Birthday Chapter (3): Surprise
REPLY 2012BIRTHDAY CHAPTER (3): Surprise
Since the breakup, I have never communicated with Minhyun again.
Until I had thought not to come at the annual meeting on August 9th. But I didn't want to break a good terms I have with the Hwang family, so I decided to keep coming.
I didn't think that at that meeting Minki came with Jennie, Jonghyun came with Ai, and Dongho came with Jiqieong. That inevitably made me and Minhyun become more awkward. That year's meeting was the most awkward meeting ever held. Kwak and Hwang's family relationhsip couldn’t help but to be awkward after they found out that Minhyun and I broke up. It was really different when they found out that Aaron oppa and Sujin unnie had broken up. Maybe because Minhyun and I have been in a relationship for a long time, three years is not a short time, and the two families have imagined that they will become in laws but then must accept the fact that their children are separated.
I really lost contact with Minhyun. I couldn't deny that I miss him, but I immediately dismiss the feeling by thinking that now he is with Lee Soyul, the daughter of the higher top police officer. Besides, I have to focus on my final assignment.
Time went on until I finally heard that Minhyun had graduated from KNPU. I was not present at the graduation ceremony, even though all the Dobong dong kids were trying to come. I thought I couldn’t bear to see Minhyun, standing side by side with the daughter of the higher top police officer who must be present at his graduation ceremony.
But Minki sent me a picture. A picture of Hwang Minhyun who looks dashing in his uniform.
I smiled, feeling happy that one step from his goals had been achieved. Hopefully his desire to be KNPU representative in the friendly agenda of the South Korea - Japan police can be achieved. As I recall, if selected, he would spend six months there. Imagining him being in Japan with Jonghyun made me smile. The two best friends will be together again.
That night, at the end of winter, I went home late than usual after battling with my final assignment in the library. Accidentally on the way home I met Minhyun.
I clumsily passed him. But Minhyun started the conversation.
Without greeting me, he immediately asked with a worried face, "Are you used to going home this late?"
"Oh? Mmm, n-no ..." I replied haltingly.
We both stay silet for a moment. But this time I took the initiative to start the conversation before everything became awkward. "C-congratulations for your graduation ..." I tried to smile.
"Yes, thank you." His answer was short and he was looking rather disappointed.
"Mm, are you temporarily living in your parent’s house? When will you leave for Japan?" I asked anything that came up in my brain.
He looked shocked but then smiled. "I'm not leaving to Japan."
"Oh? Sorry, Minhyun ah, I ---" Not until I finished my sentence, he laughed happily. Feeling confused, I asked him, "Why are you laughing?"
He looked at me deeply before answering, "That's because you still remember."
"Uhm?"
"You still remember the little thing I said about seven or eight months ago. I was touched." he said with a grimace.
Ah, damn it! I shouldn’t asked that.
"Do you still like me, Hanna?" He asked without further ado.
I was silent, not ready with the question, but Minhyun continued, "Because even now I still like you." He said while smiling casually but was capable enough to make me freeze.
"Why are we both so stupid? We both really like to put much trouble to ourselves.” He paused to laugh before then looked at me deeply, “Can we just get back together, Hanna?" He asked ignoring my heart that was almost drop from beating too fast.
