For the longest time, Momo wouldn't hear a word about miracles.  Where was the miracle that saved her first dog from being snatched up by a bigass bird?  Or the miracle that protected her dad's bad knees and back?  

Or, dammit, the miracle that got Hana into JYP?  

Momo never saw a use for miracles.  Well, maybe that wasn't true; rather, Momo never saw - and she was sure she would never see - a situation wherein a "miracle" got somebody something that hard work and tenacity couldn't.  Based on her past experiences, the opposite was true, too: no amount of effort could stop the onset of her dad's arthritis, or the fateful misfortune that befell her sister on audition day.  In other words: miracles didn't exist.  

Ah, yeah, fate and misfortune were different from miracles, she would reason to herself.  It was certainly unfortunate that she wasn't a strong vocal.  But, then, her principle: hard work on her strengths and hard work on her weaknesses would get her that spot in Twice.  She knew it was true.

But then it wasn't, suddenly.  

Her feet were numb, asleep possibly, and she felt like a blade of grass in a gale, being torn this way and that and in danger of falling, falling, falling.  She was dizzy and nauseous and tired, more tired than she'd ever been.  She barely registered Nayeon and Jihyo and Jiwon and Mina and Minyoung and everyone else as she felt the castles she had built with her calloused hands crash down
