Author’s Point of View
Taehyun woke up the next morning with the strong urge to pee. He probably shouldn’t have drank so much soda last night. When Taehyun was walking back to his room, he noticed that the door to Angie’s room was open but she wasn’t there. Instead, he heard noises coming from downstairs and he decided that he didn’t feel like going back to bed even if the jet lag was still messing with him. When he got downstairs, he could hear the television that was on a low volume and he could hear noise in coming from the kitchen. He followed the noise and found Angie putting dishes from the dish washer away.
“Uh, good morning.” Taehyun called out. Angie turned her head to look at him and smiled.
“Good morning! Did I wake you?” Angie wondered. Taehyun shook his head as he walked more into the kitchen.
“No, I had to go to the restroom.” Taehyung beat himself up for saying that. As if she wanted to know.
“Ugh, I hate when that happens!” Angie said, surprised Taehyun. Usually girls got grossed out by that if it was coming from a guy they barely met but Angie just went with it.
“If you’re hungry, I can make you something when I finish putting these away.” Angie offered as she stacked cups together before putting them in one of the opened cabniets.
“I’m fine but do you want some help?” Taehyun asked as he watched Angie struggle with some dishes in a high shelf.
“Yes please.” Angie puffed out her cheeks, allowing Taehyun to move her out of the way so he could put the dishes away for her. The two worked together to put the dishes away and finished in no time. Taehyun finally took notice of the time and saw that it was barely going on 8:30.
“What are you doing up so early?” Taehyun couldn’t help but ask.
“I have some errands I need to run and last minute Christmas shopping. I want to get it done early when it’s still not too crowded at the stores.” Angie explained as she looked through her purse to make sure she had everything.
“Do you want to come with me?” Angie asked after a moment. “I mean, I’m pretty sure everyone else will be asleep for a long time and you might get bored just sitting around. You don’t have to if you don’t want but-“
“I’ll go with you. Can I change first, though?” Taehyun cut off Angie’s rambling, fighting hard to not smile. Angie nodded her head and Taehyun hurried back to his room. Taehyun changed into a pair of jeans and a hoodie quickly and brushed his teeth. He made sure to grab a beanie for his hair and sneakers.
“I’m ready.” Taehyun said when he went back downstairs. Angie looked over from the television and smiled.
“Okay, let’s go.” She turned off the TV and grabbed her purse. Angie got her coat that she had hung on the back of a chair as she passed it, Taehyun following behind her. They got out to the garage and in Angie’s car. Angie opened the garage door before driving out of the garage then closed it.
“I need to stop by at the bank first. If you get hungry, let me know and we can stop somewhere to eat, okay?” Angie glanced over at Taehyun. Taehyun nodded his head, promising to let her know.
While Angie was driving, he took the chance to look at her. She was dressed differently from yesterday. Her face was makeup free and her hair was pulled back into a ponytail. She was dressed in a plain black long-sleeve with a pair of jeans and tan cowboy boots. He was so busy staring at her that he didn’t notice the car stop.
“We’re here.” Angie jumped when she turned to look at Taehyun and saw that he was looking at her. How long has been looking at her, she wondered.
“Oh, right, yeah.” Taehyun got out of the car the same time as Angie and Angie made sure to lock her car before they got inside the bank. Taehyun opened the door for Angie and she sent him a grateful smile. Taehyun watched as Angie happily greeted the bank tellers and some people in the line that greeted her first. Taehyun stuck close to her in the line and would occasionally ask questions about the bank, what she needed to do, how did she learn how to do it. He was curious. Back home, he had people hired to do this thing for him and his parents. They never step foot in a bank to deal with this but to Angie, it was a normal thing.
When they finished, Taehyun followed but rushed ahead of Angie so he could hold the door open for her. Angie thanked him with a smile and the two walked side by side to her car.
“You’ve never been in a bank before or are the banks in Korea really different from this bank?” Angie asked, making conversation as she drove off the bank’s parking lot and to the mall.
“I’ve actually never been in a bank.” Taehyun admitted.
“Really? Never?” Taehyun nodded his head. Angie gaped at him before turning her attention back to the rode.
“Seriously? So like, how do you make payments and stuff?” Angie wondered.
“My parents have people for that meaning that I have people for that. We have personal accountants that handle everything.” Taehyun explained.
“Wow…I wish I had someone to do that for me.” Angie laughed. Taehyun was about to ask her something when a ringing came from the radio, cutting off the song that had been playing.
“I think Rani messed with it again. It’s not supposed to be that loud.” Angie grumbled before pressing the button with the phone icon.
“Hi mommy!” Angie cheerfully called. Taehyun couldn’t help but grin at the bright expression that Angie got.
“Hi mija, how are you?” Taehyun didn’t expect to hear another voice and yelled out in surprise.
“Oh, who’s that?” Angie’s mom wondered. Angie couldn’t help but laugh at Taehyun.
“A friend. Rani’s boyfriend is in town and brought some friends. I told you about Eunjung, right?” Taehyun listened as her mom confirmed. “Well her brother and friend are visiting. Taehyun, say hi. Mommy, meet Taehyun.”
“Uh, hello. Nice to meet you. I’m Taehyun Noh.” Angie’s mom introduced herself before continuing a conversation with Angie. Questions were sometimes given to Taeyhyun but Taehyun mostly listened.
“Okay mija, I’ll let you get back to your errands. Love you and be safe. Tell Rani I say hi.”
“I will, mommy. Love you too! Tell everyone I say hi and happy holidays. And also that I’m sorry I can’t go visit this year but for sure, sometime in the spring or summer.” Angie promised before they hung up.
“I guess you’re close with your mom.” Taehyun said as Angie pulled into the mall’s parking lot. Taehyun noticed how there was already a decent amount of cars there.
“I’m close with my family in general but it’s more easier talking to my mom, I guess. You know how people generalize daughters as daddies girls?” Taehyun nodded his head, causing Angie to grin. “It’s different for me. My eonni is a daddy’s girl but I think I’m a mommy’s girl. My little brother is neutral though.” Angie laughed as she parked the car.
“So you’re the middle child?” Angie nodded her head with smile. “And do you get along with your siblings?” Taehyun wondered.
“Yeah. We get along. I think it’s cause the three of us have a similar sense of humor. If you think I’m geeky, you should see the three of us together.” Angie joked, nudging Taehyun as they got to the mall entrance. Taehyun laughed, holding the door open for Angie before following behind her.
“I wouldn’t mind seeing that.” Taehyun grinned. The two continued to talk and learn more about each other as they shopped. Taehyun had an idea more or less that Junhyuk and Rani were trying to set them up and at first, he wondered why when he first saw her with the baked face. He thought that they were pulling his leg until Junhyuk and Rani made him, Angie, and Moonkyu leave before them. He finally got a chance to talk to Angie—Moonkyu did too since Angie would make sure they both were included in the conversation and he’s not sure how he feels about that—and understood why they would pair them together. Taehyun now saw the baked face incident as something look back on and laugh.
Taehyun helped Angie carry the shopping bags to her car when they heard her phone ring. Angie let out a groan knowing that she would have to fish it out of her purse but her hands were full at the moment and so was Taehyun’s.
“I’ll call the person back when we get to the car.” Angie waved off the ringing. They got to her car and put the bags in the back then got in their seats. Angie started the car before she checked her phone.
“Who called?” Taehyun questioned.
“Rani but she’s usually not awake by this time.” Angie answered, confused as to why Rani would call her. She waited for her phone’s Bluetooth to connect to her stereo system before calling. Rani picked up just as Angie pulled out of the parking space.
“Hey dude, what’s up?” Angie asked.
“You need to hurry back here, now.” Rani spoke with an urgency that put Angie and Taehyun on edge. They shared a look before Angie spoke.
“Why? What happened?” Angie wondered.
“Eunjung was kidnapped. Boss is sending people over and he needs someone to go pick up San.” Taehyun watched as Angie’s persona did a complete 180 as Rani gave the address of the place that San was at. It scared him but he also found it y or would’ve if he wasn’t about to lose his . Eunjung was kidnapped?!
“On it.” Taehyung couldn’t help but let out a scream when Angie pressed on the gas and began to drive like they were in Mario Kart. Was this legal?
