Four

Unlikely Fairytale

For the good period of time Yerim and Jungkook have been friends, the topic of girls has never been touched. Yerim never asked and Jungkook doesn't bother mentioning it. This is why, when Yerim overheard Jungkook and his friends discussing his ideal type it was quite a shock. Yerim was quietly having her lunch alone at the school garden. She had purposely chosen a spot hidden from others so she could enjoy her meal and read. It started out peaceful, but suddenly voices could be heard not too far from her spot.

"Aw, Jungkook you should've given the girl a chance." Yugyeom's voice could be heard. "Yeah, she seemed nice." Another voice joined, it sounded like Bambam.

"Why did you straight up reject her anyways?" Seokmin, another friend of his asked.

"I don't know," Jungkook started hesitantly, "I guess she just wasn't my type."

"So, what exactly is your type?" Mingyu questioned.

"I-Hey, why are you guys so curious." Jungkook protested and the others teased.

"We're just curious." Mingyu explained. "And maybe we can try and introduce you to someone." Bambam added.

For a while, all Yerim could hear was the other boys' teasing and laughter. She tried peeking from where she was and spotted Jungkook swatting away Seokmin's hand who seemed to have pinched his cheeks.

"All right, all right I'll tell you guys." He finally relented with a huff. "I haven't really thought of it too much but," he started slowly and anticipation started to bubble in Yerim's stomach, "I guess I'd like someone who's tall and uh, mature?"

Jungkook finished his sentence questioningly but Yerim didn't really pay attention to it. All that was in her thoughts were, Tall and mature, tall and mature, tall and... mature?

After those words, she began inspecting herself. She wasn't tall, heck, she's considered one of the small ones in her group of friends. Furthermore, she didn't feel that she's mature at all. She can be quite childish sometimes, especially when she jokes around with Jungkook. The group of boys left not long after that leaving Yerim alone with her thoughts.

Tall and mature, huh?

~

It was the Saturday where Jungkook and Yerim usually have their 'outings'. They usually go out for movies or windowshopped or went out to eat. These outings actually felt like dates with Jungkook usually paying much to Yerim's protest, minus the PDA. Oh and also the romance between the two. Even though Jungkook would sometimes casually swung his arm around Yerim's shoulder, or when they'd hold each others' hand so they wouldn't be separated. These things are done without so far any romantic feelings for Jungkook, not so much on Yerim's part though (cause she's actually smitten by him).

This 'outing' Yerim had planned to be Jungkook's ideal girl. She decided to forego her casual look to a more feminine and sophisticated look to look a little bit mature. Now, for the tall part she had decided to put on a pair of wedges. Honestly she's never this dressed up and she's not really used to wearing the wedges and when she tries to walk, she still stumbles a little.

Before she could change her mind, her mom had said that Jungkook was waiting. Grabbing her purse, Yerim quickly, but carefully went out. Jungkook's reaction was a little disappointing to say the least. The moment she greeted him, Jungkook looked up from his phone and greeted back. He then went and said bye to Yerim's parents and didn't even spare her a second glance before heading to the door.

On the way to the bus stop, Jungkook realised Yerim was lagging behind. Yerim wasn't able to walk as fast as usual due to the wedges and was starting to regret her decision. Jungkook waited for her before asking if she was okay. Yerim had replied with a smile and assured him everything's fine though she still lagged behind him.

After purchasing the movie tickets, Yerim and Jungkook had lined up to buy snacks. Until then, Jungkook still hasn't seem to notice the change of style in her clothing. So, she decided to ask him instead.

"Don't you think there's something different with me today?" Yerim carefully asked. Jungkook's attention that was on list of snacks was now diverted to Yerim. He was confused at what she had said looked at her carefully and noticed something.

"Hey! We're almost at eye level, did you get taller?" He said with a grin and Yerim...Yerim was flabbergasted. She was expecting him to say that there wasn't any difference, but this...this was not expected at all.

"I, uh actually wore wedges." She replied timidly. "And...don't my clothes look mature?"

Jungkook then did a once over of Yerim and nodded. "You look pretty Yerim-ah." He then flashed her a dazzling smile which she couldn't help but return.

After the movie, the pair had decided to stroll around and went into different shops. All this walking around had made Yerim's feet to hurt a little since she's not so used with the shoes. Jungkook had taken a notice of this and decided to stop by a cafe.

Once they were seated, Yerim let out a huge sigh which had Jungkook chuckling. "You're adorable Yerim," he had said which confused Yerim. "Your feet hurt because of your shoes right? It's cute that you're like playing dress up like when we were kids."

That statement had Yerim pouting. I was supposed to seem mature but he's reminded of a kid playing dress up? Guess it's time to act like one.

When Jungkook was about to order, he had asked Yerim what she wants. "An americano." She had answered quickly.

"Are you sure? Don't you usually want milkshakes or hot chocolate?" Jungkook seemed confused. Yerim would usually prefer sweet things and this was so different to what she'd order. "Don't you at least want mocha? It's sweeter." He had offered again when Yerim nodded determinedly. However, Yerim didn't change her mind and Jungkook went to get their orders.

When Jungkook was back with their orders, Yerim had taken a sip from her drink and was ready to spit it out. It was too strong for her taste. Her eyes went to Jungkook who seemed to be watching her reaction. Not wanting to say that it was too bitter, Yerim had gulped down the drink.

"You okay, Yerim?" Jungkook asked, eyes wide open and gauging her facial expression.

"Yep, why?" She replied and trying hard not to let her calm expression crumble. Jungkook only shook his head and slid the plate of cheesecake towards her. "What, don't you want it?"

"I bought it for you, thought you'd still want something sweet."

"Really? Thank you!" She said excitedly before she was back to her senses. Calm Yerim, calm. Calm and mature. "I mean, thanks but we can share...?" Jungkook laughed at her weird behaviour but had shrugged it off. Both of them ended up deciding to split the cake.

~

On their way back, Yerim's feet had began to hurt so much that it was making it hard to walk without wincing. Luckily they were now at the bus stop near their house and she had reminded herself that it's only a little more until she can escape the painful shoes.

What broke her out of her thoughts was actually Jungkook kneeling down with his back towards her. "What are you doing, oppa?"

"I'm trying to help the princess get back to her castle unhurt." He had replied. He was still kneeling but his head was tilted to the side, and he was staring at her. Seeing that Yerim was still confused, Jungkook started talking again.

"You'll hurt your feet if you keep forcing yourself to walk with those shoes on," He began, "so I'm offering you the Jungkook carriage experience." Yerim couldn't help but laugh at the name but was touched.

However, something was halting her from the so called Jungkook carriage, her dress. Looking at her hesitance, Jungkook did a double look at what she's wearing. Realising her dress, Jungkook had taken off his flanel and tied around her waist.

Yerim was surprised at the gesture and couldn't help the blush forming on her cheeks. "There," Jungkook looked over her once again and nodded. "Now, come on princess, your castle awaits."

Yerim let out a little laugh and slowly approached the crouching boy. She slowly wrapped her arms around his neck, careful to not choke him and had made sure to not jump on him too strongly.

What Yerim noticed though, was that piggyback rides with Jungkook was never like this when they were kids. She hoped that Jungkook couldn't feel her heart thumping quickly since they were so close to each other though. Her thoughts were shattered when she heard Jungkook mumbling something. "Sorry, can you repeat that?"

"I said I think I like seeing you wearing something that's comfortable for you rather than forcing something." He said softly. "But I still think you look pretty otherwise."

Yerim was flattered and she felt lucky that Jungkook couldn't see her face that she's sure was as red as a tomato. But Yerim did manage a small thank you and held on a little tighter.

What Yerim didn't see was Jungkook smiling softly after he felt her holding on a little bit tighter.
