Tangled StringWhen I entered the café, I was greeted by a very cozy atmosphere, as expected from the impression I got when I saw the exterior. The lights were a soft golden color, and the area was littered with cute wooden tables with matching chairs, most occupied by people enjoying their drinks and conversing. The walls were decorated with menu items, logos and designs, and lots of photos of the customers. It was as if the walls were giant scrapbook pages. I went to the front counter and requested to see the owner. To my surprise, there was an older woman as the cashier. She disappeared in the back after my request, and soon she came out with another middle-aged woman, wearing an apron. Upon seeing me, her lips curled up into a smile and she greeted me.
“You must be Lee Jinhyun. I’m the owner; you can call me Mrs. Kim.” Her smile was really bright. I returned the formalities and bowed politely. She gestured me over to a free table. With the buzz of people chatting in the atmosphere, being interviewed by the owner seemed less daunting and I was more at ease.
We launched into a discussion, but most of it wasn’t really about my qualifications or anything, she mainly talked about how the café worked, the kind of work involve, and so on. She asked me about my family and schooling, and once she heard my school, Mrs. Kim smiled knowingly.
“My son goes there too! He’s a really nice kid. When you begin working here, I bet you two will get along very well.” I was surprised at what she said. When I begin working here? So, I practically got the job. Yes! I told her I’d be happy to be friends with her son. I mean, why not right? Mrs. Kim seems like a really cool boss and a really cool mother too I bet.
