Chapter four :
"Blind date on the spot- WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?!"

Weeks had passed ever since Minghao and Jun’s first meeting and honestly, the two can’t get enough of each other. The two have been meeting up for weeks now, using the ‘boss friends = working together’ plan as an excuse; both had been making stupid excuses (‘My dog needs me!’ was the worst thing Minghao had ever said because he doesn’t even have a dog.) to get off their shifts early, leaving everything to their assistants, Seungkwan and Vernon to deal with the bosses’ complaints.

Just like a routine, another busy work day passes by and the cafe doesn’t close up until 10 but Jun was a little too excited to see Minghao; mixing all of the ingredients and pouring them into circle cake pans, the chinese baker glances at the clock and groans when he realizes it was only 8.

‘You okay there, hyung?’ Mingyu chirps, hanging around in the kitchen as not many customers would want coffee at this time.

‘Uh…’ Mentally slapping himself when he realizes his groan was a little louder than he wanted, Jun mumbles quietly, ‘Yeah, sure.’

Looking at Mingyu, Jun sighs as he pushes the baking trays into the oven, thinking to himself about how lucky Mingyu is, having nothing to do-

‘Mingyu?’

‘Yeah, hyung?’

‘Um, can you…’ Jun hesitates a little because deep, deep down, he knows Mingyu is the wrong person to ask this, ‘Can you look after the cake for a little while? Just until Vernon comes back from the bathroom.’

Jun bites down on his bottom lip, worried that the other won’t accept the request or even worst, messes it up and burn down Jisoo’s cafe (Jun really, really doesn’t want to be responsible for it.)

Narrowing his eyes at the older, Mingyu looks at Jun with suspicion. ‘Hyung… Why are you asking me this? You… Are you sick?’ Mingyu hops down from the counter he was sitting on (‘How many times do I have to tell you, don’t sit on my kitchen counter!’ Jun had nagged over and over every single time Mingyu sat there, except for today though and Mingyu find that very suspicious), running over to the other and placing his hand on Jun’s forehead, checking for the other’s temperature. ‘You don’t have a fever though?…’

Squatting Mingyu’s hand away, Jun smiles cheekily as he reaches up to ruffles the taller’s hair, running out of the kitchen with a ‘Thanks, Mingyu!’

‘Something’s not right here…’

As if he had just came up with the greatest idea, Mingyu’s face lights up as he runs off, following his hyung (not before surprising Vernon by poking his head inside the bathroom and yelling ‘Take care of the cakes, bro!’ without caring about who else are in there at the same time.)

Making sure he’s a safe distance behind his chinese friend, Mingyu sneakily follows the other, hiding behind the randomest things (walls, trash bins, other people, street lamps.) As he follows the other, Mingyu can’t help coming up with different situations about where his friend could be heading; he imagines seeing Jun with a girl, possibly a girlfriend or maybe just a friend that’s a girl, who knows, though he also imagines seeing Jun with a possibly drug dealer-

‘Jun hyung!~’ A soft voice calls, and Mingyu peeks out from his hiding place (the trash bins that are rather too short for a giant like Mingyu), completely speechless because this isn’t the drug dealer he expected.

‘What the hell…’ Mingyu mumbles under his breathe as he watches Jun hug the other person (what kind of drug dealer has light blue-y hair?!).

‘Minghao!~’ Mingyu can see Jun’s bright smile under the orange lights from the poorly made street lamps, paints scraping off at the side and light bulb dim (this is the only time Mingyu cares about how bad these street lights are because he literally has to strain his eyes to stalk observe these people), ‘Wow, I didn’t think you’d be able to get off on time, did you come up with a believable excuse this time?’

Mingyu can see the other person chuckles, the little spark in the other’s eyes clear to see, ‘Yeah, definitely better than the dog excuse.’

‘So, how’s persuing your boss into coming over to our cafe?’

Did Mingyu hear that right?

Did I?!

Only now does Mingyu notice the little nametag on the blue-haired male’s shirt, similar to the stalker Mingyu had once scared off one.

Oh my god.

Oh my god they’re-

Jun hyung!’ Acting out before even thinking, Mingyu had jumped out from behind the trash bins- Mingyu expected to jump out like in movies; he expected to feel accomplish for busting his hyung but the reality here is that Mingyu had just tumbled out from behind a bunch of small bins, the clumsy latter forgetting to stand up and jump as he sat still, leaping out like a frog and ending up on the floor.

‘Oh my god, Mingyu!’ Rushing over to the poor kid, Jun helps his friend up, ‘Are you okay- why are you even here!’

‘Haha…’ Chuckling awkwardly from embarassment, Mingyu scratches his head and regains his composure when he sees the blue-haired boy up close, eyes wide and waiting for an explanation. Coughing a little, Mingyu straightens up before looking at Jun straight in the eyes. ‘Busted, hyung!~’

‘Wait, what?’ Jun furrows his eyesbrows, confused as to what was going on as he exchanges looks with the blue-haired boy.

‘M…’ Mingyu inches closer to take a better look at the blue-haired boy’s name tag, taking the other two by surprise as the boy inches back at the same time as Jun holding his wrist, pulling the slightly scared boy back and towards himself. ‘Minghao! Well hi, I’m Mingyu.

Mingyu’s oblivious grin makes the other two even more surprised.

‘Um, hi?’ Minghao greets, confusion still in his voice.

‘Jun hyung, tell me what you two are doing.’ Mingyu says straightforwardly, this time really shocking the other two. Realizing that the other two are a little uneasy with his request, Mingyu smiles cheekily, ‘Alright then, what do you think will happen if Jisoo hyung finds out you’ve been running off early to meet with a staff from-’

‘Okay, okay, we’ll tell you!’ Jun places his hand on the other’s mouth, silencing him as he drags the kid to a nearby convenience store.

‘What.’ Mingyu frowns, ‘We could’ve just talked out there-‘

‘Minghao doesn’t like the heat-‘

‘Waaaahhh, the AC, finally~’

Mingyu smirks, knowing what is really going on between the two chinese boys; Jun tries distracting Mingyu from it by telling him about their ‘make our bosses become friends to have some peace’ plan but Mingyu can’t help but know that there’s more to this than what is on the surface.

‘Oh, and now that you know, you’re gonna have to join us.’

After a moment of silence to let everything sink in, Mingyu’s smirk only grows wider.

‘Hyung.’ Jun bolts up, surprised by the sudden sound as he had just adjusted to only hearing the sound of Minghao chewing onto his snacks, ‘I won’t tell on you and I’ll join you guys.’

Jun lets out a relief sigh, smiling at Minghao when he sees the other’s innocent grin (how can your heart not melt at the sight of Minghao’s smile, but still, this is definitely not because Jun has feelings for Minghao, definitely not), about to thank the other when-

‘On one condition.’ Jun groans as he hears Mingyu’s soft chuckle, ‘You have to bring that… That kinda tall boy with slanted eyes and really nice hair, you know, Minghao, you should know!’

‘Um, um…’ Flustered at the sudden exclaimation, Minghao blinks before forming an ‘O’ with his mouth, eyes small as he smiles, ‘You mean Wonwoo hyung!’

‘Yeah, uh, yeah Wonwoo, yeah…’ A little surprised by the sudden information, Mingyu continues with his deal, ‘So yeah, bring him to your… Um, i guess, everyday meeting? Yeah, bring him, yeah…’

Raising his eyebrows, Jun smirks as he is so going to tease Mingyu about thi-

‘Ah, so you want to have a blind date during our meetings?’ Minghao innocently blurts out, eyes wide.

‘Oh my god, Minghao!’ Jun laughs, holding onto his stomach when he sees the look on Mingyu’s face (Jun swears, he had never seen Mingyu so flustered before.)

‘Shut up, hyung!’

‘Okay, okay,’ Wiping off the tears from his laughing fit, Jun turns to Minghao, ‘So, you okay with this?’

Smiling brightly, Minghao nods like a little kid being asked if he wanted candies or not, making Jun smiles as well because Minghao’s smile is so, so contagious.

‘Yes! Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!’ Mingyu jumps up from his seat, giving Minghao a quick hug when he notices Jun’s glare (Mingyu really doesn’t want to be wushu-ed away before he even gets a chance to know his stalker.) as he runs back to the cafe, excitement being his fuel.

‘Wonwoo hyung~’

‘What is it, Minghao?’ A busy Wonwoo asks, focusing on the variety of coffee machines as he tries not messing up the orders together and making a caramel macchiato instead of a latte.

Eyeing his hyung, Minghao slips behind the counter and stands beside the older, holding out a cup to help. Wonwoo sends the other a thankful smile before pouring the last cup of coffee of the day, placing it onto the counter for Soonyoung to deliver.

‘Hyung, now that you’re done,’ Minghao chirps, smile never fading, ‘Can you show me the closer way to the trash now?’

‘To the trash?’ Wonwoo furrows his eyebrows, clearly confused, ‘But it’s not even your turn to take out the trash-‘

‘Seungcheol hyung’s busy so I offered to help (‘Wait what-‘ Minghao chooses to ignore Seungcheol)’ Minghao tilts his head to the side, putting on his best puppy face as he waits for the other’s respond.

After a moment of thinking, Wonwoo shrugs because hey, he is done with all the orders and he sure can use the fresh air.

‘Sure, let’s go.’

--<*--*>--

‘Hyung, I saw this hat shop when I was wandering around last week and man, they had the best bucket hats like, you’ll probably buy out the whole store!’ Minghao swings his arms freely as he walks, the weight of the trash bags not bothering him even the slightest.

‘What?! No way!’ Wonwoo exclaims, ‘Minghao, you’ve got to bring me there! I can really use a few more hats.’

‘Hyung, you can like, fill up a whole room with the amount of hats you own.’

‘Shush, you don’t understand, they’re all very useful for different occasions.’

‘Hyung! You own like, 3 of the same coloured snapbacks! And don’t even get me started on your flowery bucket hats-‘

‘Minghao, let hyung teach you something.’ Wonwoo throws his hands into the air as if he is about to teach Minghao about the most important thing ever (It is important. It’s definitely more important that finding the shorter way to the trash because Wonwoo had long forgetten about that.) ‘First of all, I don’t own 3 of the same coloured snapbacks; they’re 3 different shades of black (‘When were there different shades for black-‘ ‘Shush, Minghao and listen to me.’) and my flowery bucket hats are totally in season for summer-‘

‘Minghao!’ A foreign voice calls, interrupting Wonwoo’s lecture. ‘And… Wonwoo, right?’

‘Um, how do you know my name- What the-‘

‘Hi Wonwoo!’ A not-so-unfamiliar male runs up to Wonwoo, surprising him with an overly tight hug, ‘I’m Mingyu, the person you stalked- I mean, I’m Mingyu, Minghao’s friend.’

Completely taken back by the situation, Wonwoo stiffens because oh my god, it’s the kid that saw me and Seungcheol hyung stalking observing him.

Oh my god.

Body stiff and face red, Wonwoo pushes the taller away, coughing awkwardly as he rubs his neck, staring at his feet as he plays with the sleeve of his sweater (‘It’s summer, why are you wearing that-‘ ‘It’s all for the fashion, Seungkwan. Plus, I’m wearing shorts so who cares.’).

‘Uh, sorry, I don’t really like skinship-‘

‘What do you mean hyung, you hug me all the time-‘

‘Shush, Minghao!’ Wonwoo’s voice comes out a little louder than expected and the boy is even more flustered now; Mingyu finds him really cute though. ‘Um, but yeah I guess you two already know my name. But, um- Oh , this isn’t the short way to the trash! Minghao, let’s go-‘

‘Hey, it’s fine, there’s a trash near here anyways.’ The stranger from before says, ‘Oh, and I’m Jun.’

‘Uh, hi…’ Wonwoo really doesn’t know how he’s supposed to act right now.

‘C’mon, hyung, let’s go~’ Minghao swings an arm around Wonwoo’s shoulder, pulling the older with him as Jun is busy carrying the trash bags with an overly-cheerful Mingyu by his side.

--<*--*>--

‘So… You really just asked me to show you the way as an excuse for you to tell me about this plan?’

‘Yep, so, you in hyung?’

All three pairs of eyes stare at Wonwoo, making the older crumbles under the pressure.

‘Uh… Yeah, sure? As long as it means Junghan hyung will stop talking about this Jisoo person.’ Wonwoo mumbles, playing with his sleeves.

‘Great!’ Jun exclaims, ‘Alright, to celebrate this (‘What’s there to celebrate-‘ ‘Shush, hyung, as long as there’s free food.’), Minghao and I will go buy some drinks, it’s my treat~’

‘Get me some chicken too!’ Mingyu says, excited that he’s going to be alone with Wonwoo.

‘Hamburger, hamburger!’ Wonwoo face lights up, smiling like a kid and Mingyu is awed by the scene because how cute can he gets.

‘Okay, okay, sit here and keep the table, yeah?’

Jun and Minghao are both gone by the minutes and Wonwoo and Mingyu are left with an awkward silent, Wonwoo panicking in his head because , please don’t bring up the incident with Seungcheol hyung, please-

‘Sooooooooooooo, not to be mean or anything but were you stalking me last time?’

.

‘W-What?’ Wonwoo keeps his head down, staring at his hands. ’N-No, we were just, um… We were just stopping there to… Um… Check out the new cafe?’ (hey, it’s not a complete lie!) Wonwoo groans under his breathe when he realizes that it came out more as a question.

‘Hm, sure~’ Mingyu smirks, chuckling a little because he’s so cute, I’m going to die. ‘So, do you like hip hop?’

‘Hip hop?’ At the mention of that, Wonwoo’s head shoots straight up and the spark in his eyes made Mingyu screams inside. ‘Oh my god, you like hip hop too? Have you heard Tablo’s new album? And Lupe Fiasco’s new song?!’

‘Yesssssssss!’ Mingyu is happy out of his head because he is finally closer to cracking Wonwoo’s walls. ‘Man, don’t even get me started.’

The two spends the rest of the night rambling on and on about different rappers and songs, their conversations soon changing to the most random things like whether dogs are scary or not and if birds are friendly. The two chinese friends though stand from afar, observing the two and smirking as hey, their boss plan hasn’t even started yet but another friendship had formed thanks to them.

--<*--*>--

‘Junghan hyyuuuuunnngggggggg!’

Wonwoo throws his arms over the older’s shoulders from behind, smiling brightly as if the fact that the two are close to tumbling right over doesn’t matter him.

‘Oh my f- Wonwoo? What is it?’ Junghan asks, nonchalant when he realizes the person that had almost sent him to the floor head first is his second favourite dongsaeng (Minghao’s first; the kid’s Korean still isn’t good enough for him to annoy Junghan like the others.)

‘Hyung~’ Wonwoo coos, putting on his best aegyo voice without cringing, ‘You know, the Jisoo’s Cafe-‘

‘No, no, no!’ Junghan eyes widen, pushing Wonwoo’s arms off of him as he turns around to face the other. ‘Wonwoo! I trusted you! You can’t be brainwashed by them-’

‘Hyung!’ Frowning, Wonwoo shakes his head like a little child being acused of something wrong, ‘I’m not brainwashed by them! You know me better than that! It’s just… I’m really curious about how good their food and coffee could be-’

‘It’s obviously not as good as ours.’ Junghan rolls his eyes, hands on his hips as he waits for Wonwoo to continue.

‘Um, okay…’ Wonwoo crinkles his nose out of habit, scratching his head as he mumbles, ‘But hey, isn’t it good to get to know your competition? We need to get our customers back; we can’t just let them get away with this!’

Okay, Wonwoo does have a point.

‘I can’t just go over there though!’ Junghan stands still, comtemplating his life decisions. ‘I’ve been complaining about how bad the place is; I can’t just show up like a hypocrite! How am I going to deal with Seungkwan’s remarks for the rest of the year?!’

Looking at his hyung panic, Wonwoo chuckles, wondering if the male opposite him is really older; as if a light bulb had just went on inside of Wonwoo’s head, his head snaps up, back straight as he looks at Junghan with a cheeky smile.

‘Hyung… How about a disguise?’

--<*--*>--

I’m going to kill you for this, Jeon Wonwoo.

Junghan is sitting in Jisoo’s Cafe, table near the window as he quietly hides his head underneath the overly big floppy hat Wonwoo had lend him (Junghan still wonders why Wonwoo owns this, the hat’s rim is literally bigger than the plates Junghan owns.); as if the hat isn’t already enough to attract attention, Junghan has a big pink mask covering his nose and mouth, leaving just his eyes visible.

(Junghan is just thankful the kid didn’t make him wear sunglasses at this hour.)

After ordering his food by writing it onto a paper instead of talking since the kid that was taking his order kept on asking him to repeat it (Soonyoung is definitely a better waiter.), Junghan lets out a small sigh as he looks out the window, hoping that none of his employees pass this road tonight and notices him.

The cheesecake Junghan ordered soon arrives alongside with his coffee (yeah, it’s like 8, Junghan just panicked while ordering when he notices the looks people were giving him.)

‘The presentation isn’t even as good as Seungkwan’s.’ Junghan mumbles under his breathe, poking the cake with his fork.

The male removes his mask, stuffing it into his pocket as he takes a big bite out of the cake.

‘.’

‘No, no, this is totally not good. Definitely not.’ Junghan chants, ‘This , Minghao’s cakes are better, totally bett- Urgh, who am I kidding, this is so good?!’

Junghan groans as he continue eating the cake, finishing it within seconds as he tries to convince himself that even if the cake is good, Minghao’s cakes are better.

(Junghan did kinda think of stealing the recipes here though.)

The male continues mumbling to himself, unaware that he’s being observed by another person.

‘Hi.’

The sudden cling made from another cup of coffee hitting his table surprises Junghan, making the latter look up.

What the-

‘Care to explain why you’re wearing a floppy hat and a pink mask at night?’ The stranger smiles and Junghan would never admit it but he sure had melt when he sees the spark in the other’s eyes, the shape reminding him of a cat’s eyes.

‘Um…’ Junghan hesitates, not knowing whether talking to this strangely good-looking stranger was a good idea.

What have I gotten myself into?!
