Bonus chapter :
"Little Chan- IS THERE RIVALRY ALREADY?!"

It is that time of the year again, where every child’s laughter would fill up the neighbourhood, it would ring in the ears of the elders. It is the time that they looked forward to the most. It is time for Summer. Although it goes without a doubt that, all the children would be relieved that they were able to play without any concern or worry. Here, it doesn’t matter where you came from, or where you were heading for in life. All that matter is you were someone who liked to play and that was pretty much it. Everyone who was anyone and everyone, would play together… everyone apart from one little boy.

A little boy name, Lee Chan.

“Chan-ah?”

A head turns from his seat in the airport, a tear-stricken face looks, pleading the figure to not force him. Holding his hand onto the woman, he clutches her hand tighter, stronger, not ever wanting to let go.

“Ch-”

“I-I don’t want to-” He stutters through hiccups, “you can’t make me,” Chan looks at the female’s face, and shakes his head violently, slowly losing focus and sight of the woman. Before long he loses his focus altogether, not before, muttering, “Aunt, don’t leave me-”

“Oppa, do you have to take Channie, by force?”

“Does it seem like I have any choice?”

“But-”

“He needs to learn that nothing occurs the way we want it to…” Chan's father says, sighing, “Just like what happened to his mom,” he lets out a sigh, holding in his tear from the painful memory.

“Oppa, Unnie left for a reason… I’m sure she has her reasons, shouldn’t we all move on from that? Why are you punishing Chan for it?”

“This is something he needs to forget the most, more than any of us,” Glancing at his watch, the man quickly pats his sibling’s shoulder. “I’ll get going now, or we will be late, bye,” Without looking back he speed walks into the boarding area.

“Bye,” Chan's aunt replies sighing, “so when will you move on then, Oppa?”

Chan due to exhaustion does not stir the whole journey to Los Angeles, America. Whereas, his father stays awake for the most part, only sleeping, when the flight attendant walks up to him and tells him for the upteenth time that his phone should not really be used, unless it was in flight mode. Finding no alternative, he turns his phone off and looks out the window, before long falling asleep. Both father and child’s heads rest on one another for the rest of the journey.

--<*--*>--

Finally, Chan starts to stir after the long and tiring journey to their hotel room.

“Wh-what happened?” Chan asks, as his eyes start to adjust to the sudden change in lighting in the room.

“Go change, I think I need to rest after all that,”

Chan raises his eyebrows at his father’s choice of words, “but what happened?”

“You fainted at the airport,”

Chan nodded, slightly, waiting for his father to continue.

“And after we landed, I had to carry everything,”

Chan’s lips formed an ‘Oh’, as everything sunk in slowly. “Wait everything?!”

“...”

“Father?”

“Go change, son,”

Chan groaned from the jetlag, as he stretches, before stumbling in the direction of the en suite.

“The outfit for tonight’s dinner is already hung up,”

“Of course, I carried everything, I even carried you. And don’t forget you are no longer a kid, and did you know how hard it was to carry you along with all the luggages huh?” Chan's father mutters once the door swings shut, although he starts to smile regardless of being sore from carrying too much.

--<*--*>--

The door unlocks, and Chan steps inside the large restaurant and takes in the view, of everything. The tables and chairs are dressed in matching white and velvet colours.

“Mr. Lee!” A voice calls from the corner of the restaurant, Chan's father smiles and walks off, leaving a flustered Chan to shuffle after his father.

Chan keeps his head down the majority of the time, he is sitting there, waiting for this whole meeting to be over. He doesn’t really understand why he had to dress up anyways, it’s not like he was part of the workers at Pledis or anything. Due to having slept a little too much, means that Chan is strangely not really hungry, so he keeps on poking at his food, trying to avoid any contact with the people altogether. That is until…

Poke. Poke. Poke.

Chan tries to stop the feeling of being troubled with, all he wanted is for this damn get together, to be over and done with. And he didn’t want to risk having his father set another day to meet with his colleagues. Nothing is going to stop him from getting this over-

“Can you stop-” Chan hisses glancing to his side seeing a boy, who looked slightly older than himself, smiling, really brightly in a sinister and creepy way.

“Hi.”

Chan continues to gape at the boy.

“Finally, you aren’t ignoring me any more.”

Chan scrunches his eyebrows in shock. Since how long has he been here for?

“But like you seem really down, seeing as how I don’t have nothing to do but wait for all of this, -” He gestures quickly at the adults, “what do you say to sneaking out in the meantime?”

Chan still unable to overcome his shock nods, a smile finding his way to his lips. “Let’s!”

The boy whispers something to his mum, who smiles and nods, and he gets up waiting for Cahn to join him.

“But fath-”

“We will be back before he knows it, if he asks, my mum will tell him, I’ve taken you out,” he says offering his hand and a smile. “I’m Jisoo, by the way,”

--<*--*>--

“Wow, you have quite a story, huh? For such a young child… I don’t know what I’d do really if my mum decides to focus on her work even more.” Jisoo says, sighing as they sit beside each other, staring at the night sky.

“It’s fine, hyung-”

“No, Chan, no. It is not fine, don’t call me Hyung,”

“Why not?” Chan asks pouting.

“Call me father,”

“But-”

“From this day on, I shall shower you with love, the amount you deserve and more,”

“Hyu-”

“Uh Uh uh, it’s Father,”

“Okay, father,”

Jisoo smiles his brightest smile that night as he hugged Chan. Chan closes his eyes, as he melts into his new friend’s hug. Is this what it feels like to be loved?

Not everything is made to stay the same, and Chan understands that, when it was time to go back to South Korea, leaving what made him happy once again.

“Hyung,” Chan says, his eyes filled with tears at the thought of leaving his two months old friend.

“Chan-ah, don’t be upset, I’ll email and text everyday, so much that you’ll be sick of hyung,”

“Promise?”

“I promise, keep healthy and eat every day, okay? No skipping meals,”

“I promise, don’t forget me, okay?”

“Yah, what father ever forgets their son,”

One last promised filled hug, and Chan is already walking through the gates, his heart somewhat heavy yet light, knowing he atleast has one father he can count on. I’ll never forget meeting my first new friend, Jisoo hyung.

--<*--*>--

Being back in South Korea means a lot of things to Chan, for once however he can’t say he was ecstatic. Sure, he could sleep on his aunt’s lap like normal, he could even sleep without the worry of being abandoned, though the same can’t be said for anyone leaving.

Despite his pleas for his aunt to homeschool him, it never happened. So, Chan found himself walking around in circles in his junior year, not wanting to catch the attention of anyone, preferring to be by himself.

“Hey, are you alright?” A boy with a rather round face asks, “You seem rather upset, I’ve noticed you around, are you alright?”

Even though it was never something that Chan would never have imagined to happen, the idea of not being alone appealed to him, a lot. It wasn’t like Jisoo did not stay in contact, in fact the elder boy stayed true to his words, and would message Chan everyday, whenever he was awake only it didn’t feel the same not being able to see the boy. Chan regardless of not believing the best will happen to him, hoped that the boy who had approached him, would ask him to join him.

“I-I’m alright, thanks,” Chan stutters.

“Wanna join me and my friends?” He asks, smiling brightly and stretching his hand out, his face full of worry and hope.

Chan nods, stretching his own hand out and grasping the elder boy. As he guides him across the school fields.

“Boo Seungkwan, pleasure to meet you,”

“Pleasures all mine, Lee-”

“Chan, I know,” He says grinning, “We all know about you,”

“Boo Seungkwan, where hav-”

“Wow, why didn’t you tell us you knew my long lost twin,” A boy, with light blonde hair, Soonyoung, exclaims as he dramatically pretends to faint as a another boy, Wonwoo, looking rather emo, catches him.

“Chan, meet Soonyoung, Wonwoo, Minghao, Seungcheol and-”

“Yoon Junghan, Hi,” A boy says eyes shining as he seems to literally shine in Chan’s eye.

--<*--*>--

School life was never the same again for Chan, the group always had some sort of mischief up, and Chan was actually happy to have something ongoing in his life.

--<*--*>--

One late night, after hanging out at Seungkwan’s house, the boys left one by one until only Seungcheol, Chan and Junghan remains.

“I’ll take,”; “Chan let’s go-”

“No, I’ll-”; “I’m taki-”

“Seungcheol,”; “Junghan,”

“Look, I’m heading home anyways, I’ll take Chan-”

“His house is in the oppo-”

“Er.. hyungs, I’ll head home mysel-”

“No, it’s too dangerous for you to go home alone,”

“What who said you could go alone,”

Chan sighs, watching the eldest of the group battle it out, to see who will take Chan home first.

A lot of waiting around later, and finally Seungcheol decides to call it quits from arguing as he pushes Junghan outside in a jokingly manner.

“Make sure you wait and carefully explain to Chan’s dad-”

“Hyung there’s no need,”

“Seungcheol stop worrying, you worrying bubble-boy, he’ll be safe with me,”

“Which is precisely why I am worrying, anyways.”

Rolling his eyes and ignoring the eldest of them, Junghan grins when he hulls Chan outside with him, “Laters Cheol,”

“It’s hyung,” He shouts, as he watches the two figures slowly disappearing backs.

--<*--*>--

“Is this why you were so afraid to come and hang out every time we asked?”

Chan nods, as he continues to look at the floor not bearing to look at Junghan.

“Awwh, Chan,” Junghan whispers, “Why didn’t you tell me,”

“I was afraid,”

“Afraid?”

“That’d you wouldn’t want to know me after,”

“Cha-”

“That you’d do the same, that you would lea-”

“Why would I want to leave you? What father ever leaves his son,”

Giving Chan no time to let the information sink in, Junghan pulls the younger boy into a hug full of warmth and love. “I’ll provide you with what you lack in life”

Chan’s eyes widen, as he feels himself be pulled into a world he last saw in LA, America. What he thought he’d only get once in his life, God had given him again, in the form of someone else.

--<*--*>--

Chan slept with a fluttered feeling, knowing that he was loved and cared for, by someone in South Korea, other than his aunt, other than his Jisoo hyung.

--<*--*>--

“So what happened last night-”

“Chan, come here, my son-” Junghan says cutting off Minghao.

“WAIT! WHAT? WHAT SON? WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOUR SON?! HE’S MY SON!” Seungcheol shouts in disbelief.

--<*--*>----<*--*>----<*--*>----<*--*>----<*--*>----<*--*>----<*--*>----<*--*>----<*--*>----<*--*>--

“Be sure to buy everything!” Jun instructs as Vernon and Chan leave together for grocery shopping.

“Don't worry, hyung, we have the list,” Chan replies, Vernon waving the said list as they walk on in the direction of the shop.

--<*--*>--

“I’ve got the coffee beans, what’s ne- Ohh, hi, hyung!” Chan suddenly waves in the opposite direction of their aisle to a familiar figure whom Vernon chose to ignore as he strolls past to the next shelf of food.

“Okay, hyung, I’ll find the fruits, so do you want to get the other ingredients?” Chan calls as he leaves for the next aisle.

“Sure,” Vernon replies as he takes the trolley in the direction of the fridge. “Milk, check, fresh cream, check, but- ohh butter…” He mutters.

Reaching to grab the last butter tin, Vernon feels another hand grab onto the tub at the very same time.

“I was here first, let g-”

“No, I need i- Wait… You’re from the other cafe! Urgh, you’re the people stealing our customers aren’t you. We need this more so, let go of the butter tub!”

“Why sho-”

“Hyungs?”

Vernon looks up from the butter tub to see Chan there with his hands full of fruits, looking confused to see why his two hyungs were fighting.

“Seungkwan hyung! You know Vernon hyung?”

“Uh... Who?” Seungkwan furrowed his eyebrows, obviously irritated.

“Ok I’ll take that as a no…” Chan smiles cheekily, scratching his head,  “Vernon hyung, meet Seungkwan hyung. Seungkwa-”

“I don’t need to meet my rival, thanks Chan,” Seungkwan rolls his eyes, leaving a rather surprised Vernon as he left, swiftly tossing the butter tub into his trolley.
