“Eomma?”

Mom turned to see Shinhye was at the door, holding a tray with a teapot set and a bowl on it. Her mom was not feeling well for the past few days.

“Hi sweetheart,” she said, pushing herself on her elbows.

“I thought you were asleep. I brought you some porridge and tea.”

Mom’s face cracked into a smile, as though she’d made her year.

“Sweetheart,” she said. “That is so kind.”

Shinhye brought the tray and watched as her mom sipped the hot drink. Her face was so distant that she thought her mom might be falling asleep again, but suddenly her mom focused on her.

“Shinhye,” she said. “This Yonghwa.:

“Yes?” she said, trying to sound casual.

“You know I’m asking this because I’m worried about you.”

Shinhye could feel herself squirming inside. She didn’t want to talk about Yonghwa at this moment.

“I’m glad that he is helping you and you have improved so much with him around. You are getting better and we are all happy. But, I just want to make sure, if this is okay with? If you are okay with everything?”

She knew exactly what her mom meant. “Eomma, I’m fine,” she curved a smile. “Yonghwa helps me a lot. I can now talk to strangers, in public. I did great right?”

“Sure do, my dear. And that’s great, totally great,” mom hesitated. “But I’m just scared you’ll be shadow by the incident one day since you are in a relationship again.”

“Well, Dr Kang always said I need to begin building relationships outside the family again.”

“I’m just saying you need to be careful, Shinhye. You’re vulnerable,” mom looked troubled.

“He’s very nice, eomma. He will never do such thing to me,” she said firmly.

“Of course dear. We hope nothing happen to you again.”

“Okay, now let’s eat the porridge before it’s cold,” Shinhye hurriedly changed the topic and fed her mom. She knew Yonghwa was a kind man, but when her mom reminded her of the tragic incident, her heart raced in fear.
