After all those turns and intersections, still Kim Jaejoong was not able to find room 368 yet. With little drops of sweat that runs down his forehead, it looked like a glitter that glimmers on his pretty face. A lot of his noonas working for SM Entertainment would steal a glance at him as he would pass by. Being shy in nature, Jajeoong would just stare down at his feet as his hands would nervously grab the side of the jogging pants he was wearing—a habit of his whenever he feels shy and embarrassed.

Looking at his watch, he realized that he was already half an hour late. Turning his head to the right, he realized he’s still far from room 368 and with the complicated structure of the building, he was pretty sure it would take him a lot of time to reach his destination.

Irritated at his own self, he stopped from walking and immediately turned 180 degrees. Little did he knew  that someone was also moving towards his way, and with his sudden change of direction, bumping towards each other was not inevitable.

He felt a soft thud, and realized it was a young little girl that he accidentally knocked down.

“Ouch~” the young girl complained in a soft voice, minding her back as she was trying her best to regain back her position.

Knowing immediately that it was his fault and feeling guilty at the same time for knocking down a smaller creature (a lovely creature, he corrected his self),  Jaejoong immediately went for her, extending his hands towards the young girl, and helped her to get up. But there was something more that he felt, he just did not know. Whatever that thing was, he just knew that it had made him feel uneasy.

“I’m sorry.” He whispered.

The young girl just glared at him for a split second, and left without saying another word.

He couldn’t help but to follow her walk away.

There was something magical, he concluded, in her that made him feel… something.

But she was like Cinderella who has to leave without saying her name. The prince in the story, he envied, was lucky to have a glass slipper she accidentally left. For Kim Jaejoong, there was nothing left. She left nothing to him, for him to have a reason to know her name, but only a thought of wonder and feeling of enchantment.

After a year of training, he was able to make friends with some of his co- trainees though they only gather and enjoy one another’s company only during break time since most of the time he was training hard, practicing a dance routine or two. He never thought that the training he would receive would be this hard. Doing his best was all he could do anyway, even if it meant only a few hours of sleep, since he never wanted to just be a trainee all his life or rather end up being one of those back- up dancers. If he wanted to debut as a star, he must work hard for it no matter what it takes.

He would never forget though the young girl—a co-trainee, he discovered—who he met a year back. He would see her by the hallway with some other girls also at her age as they cross each other’s way but his eyes would only see her. He did not know why but as the time goes by, Kim Jaejoong was starting to get curios about her. There was something in her, the way she had looked into his eyes (and the way she made him feel uneasy that time), that made her different (and special).

Whatever that thing was, he did not know just yet.

“Yah, Jung Sooyeon. You realize you must not hunger yourself much, right? You’re going to faint any time soon if you’ll continue that.” He overheard a girl, a tall one indeed that he recalled was towering over the girl trainees, calling after a blonde girl.

Kim Jajejoong was now behind the girls who just came from one of the practice rooms of the building. The blonde turned to look at the other girl but said nothing. It was as if she was conveying what she wanted to say only with the use of her eyes.

Jaejoong immediately noticed it was her, the girl he met a year back and continued on seeing almost every day along the hallway but he would never know her name.

Jung Sooyeon. She called her Jung Sooyeon.

The other girl gave up and backed a few steps, “I’m just concerned.”, and she left.

Jaejoong just studied the girl in front of her. After a few moments, she started walking her way, not towards the canteen but somewhere towards the upper part of the building.

He was being mindless but the next thing he knew, he was already following her and reached the rooftop of the building.

And it was actually his first time here. Looking around, and feeling the fresh air embracing his skin, he thought this place was the least stressful part of the building. It was like the desperation of being the best temporarily fades away the moment he took a step on it.

Only a few meters away, near the end of the building, Jaejoong saw her sitting by an old wooden bench.

He was sure she was crying, even just on her back. And there was something in him that made him wants to comfort her, and let her feel brighter.

He purposely cleared his throat for her to know there was also someone here but Sooyeon never budged—did not moved an inch even—and just continued on crying, uncaring.

Jaejoong took a few steps and sat quietly beside her.

“Do you know why there are rainbows?” he started.

Sooyeon stopped from crying, and slowly she turned to look at him, thinking why in the world would a stranger like him was doing.

“Because God want to remind us that in every tear we shed comes a bucket filled with happiness.”

“What are you doing?” she asked him, too annoyed that her eyebrows were almost meeting. She could not thought of a single reason why a man like him would talk to her.

Jaejoong leaned closer to her and formed a smile on her lips with the use of his hands.

Sooyeon was surprised with his sudden act. Looking at the man beside her, she noticed how bright his face was as he was smiling across her. The smile that he formed into her lips became permanent (temporary rather) as she looked at his smile. Though realizing after a second, she felt uneasy. They were both strangers despite the fact though that she would always see him around.

After a few seconds, Jaejoong finally removed his hands from her when he noticed the uneasy expression on her face.

“Do you know that my mother used to compare me with that of a rainbow?” he asked, his eyes were staring now at the city below them.

“Why?” Sooyeon asked in a soft voice. This actually made him smile.

“When she was feeling upset and losing hope, she would just look into my eyes and listen to my voice and immediately, all her worries would fade away. Just like how the rainbow would give smiles and laughter the moment the little kids would see them.” He told her.

Sooyeon smiled even more at this, remembering the times she spent with her mother.

“Wow. It looked amazing, mum! The rainbows looked amazing!” the six year old kid mused, grabbing her mum’s hand. “Can I take a slide over the rainbow, mum? Can I?”

She wiped her tears away and stood up, leaving the young boy puzzled. She turned to look at him, and said, “I’m sorry for being rude a year back. And… thanks.”

And with just that she left.

A smile formed on his lips, “At least she still does remember me.” I wish to become your rainbow, Sooyeon.

“How does it feel like?” she asked.

“Feel what?” he said mindlessly, tracing the slightly ruined wooden bench until it reached Sooyeon’s delicate fingers. He quickly removed his hands from the contact as it sent electricity towards his body.

“About debuting. About finally achieving your dreams. About finally performing up on stage after all the sacrifices. You’re first album has been a great success, isn’t it?”

“Maybe.”

“How does it feel like being an idol?”

“You really wanted to debut soon, huh?” he , patting her head softly while the other girl even slouched more at this and even blushed. “Don’t worry, Sooyeon. Your time to become an idol will also come.”

She sighed, and turned to look at him with a happy smile, though Jaejoong knew inside her she feels otherwise, “I don’t even know if I’m going to debut. I’m not even pretty. It’s my younger sister, Soojung, who they are after anyway… not me.”

Despite the pretending she had always put on, there was never a time—not a single one—when Jaejoong would not see it. If there was something he was good at, other than singing, was the fact that he could see through Sooyeon’s eyes. He could see things that even some of her friends in the company did not know of. He was the only one in their company who can understand the real Sooyeon—the little girl that hides inside that cold appearance of hers.

He had known her only for two years (a year only actually since the first year was all just stealing glances and observing) but Jaejoong already know even the little things.

And most of these were the things only he was able to know.

No interaction was to be made between a male and a female in their company and it was something that SM Entertainment was very strict at. That was why, even though they were like best friends and even though there was nothing malicious or something in their relationships as close friends, Jaejoong and Sooyeon never had talked during their trainings and even on their vacant times. They would just greet each other as they cross along the hallway, and would just exchange meaningful looks.

Sometimes Jaejoong would think, that what he was doing, was not a right thing. But then again, building up friendship with someone is not even a bad thing. He didn’t know why SM Entertainment would deprive that to their trainees when there was nothing wrong with it even.

He looked into her eyes, and remembered the past two years of knowing her. For over a year, he became her rainbow. Despite the rigid trainings they both receive, they still get the chance to see each other at their usual place, by the rooftop. It was not something though that they had planned upon. It was just like an instinct to both of them to go and visit the rooftop every time they feel distressed. As the time went by, they started to become closer with one another until both of them were already comfortable enough with one another that they even say what they feel among the things that were happening to them.

And as what Jaejoong has promised to his self, he became Sooyeon’s rainbow. He discovered how burdened she was feeling ever since she entered the company. And despite her cold nature, Sooyeon’s heart was like that of a fragile glass that could easily be broken.

“Don’t think that way, Sooyeon. Because for me, you are the prettiest.” Jaejoong told her, he meant it that way because to him, Sooyeon is the prettiest but... he realized immediately that Sooyeon would feel awkward at this.

Sooyeon blinked a few times, her cheeks slightly blushed at this. She did not know what to say so she remained speechless.

“I mean, after my mum that is.” Jaejoong added, cursing at himself at the lame excuse to make the atmosphere lighter.

A smile formed on her face, then laughter erupted. Jaejoong couldn’t help but to laugh with her, too.

It was a lame excuse, he knew, but then he was her rainbow, after all.

After what it felt like a hundred years of laughing, Sooyeon halted and faced him, “Thanks.” She didn’t break her eye contact with him, her eyes shining so brightly that Jaejoong was somehow surprised in some ways for he had never seen her happy this much.

He heard her sigh. Still studying her, Jaejoong followed her gaze upon the afternoon sky above them—the sun slowly appearing behind the clouds that brought a drizzle over the city.

I was starting to like him. I didn’t how it all began. I just did.

The next thing I knew, I was already falling for him.

And when I thought everything was going fine… he left.

He just left.

My heart shattered into pieces. I tried to get them back together but most of the pieces were with him.

There was a scar in my heart and my world started to fall. It was all rain, rain, and rain.

He was my rainbow—the only one who could bring me back my smile, on top of it all my heart.

I was left, broken into pieces, but still was hoping for him to come back.

He would come back. He has to.

Jessica was tired, very tired indeed that she felt like her body would give in any minute. She was practicing nonstop—preparing for their comeback. She was determined to do well. She was determined not to become a burden for her group that was why she was practicing hard to master their dance routine. There were a lot of pressure not only from the company but also from her family. She was the older one, and they expect her to become better.

Reaching the same old place, Jessica went for the usual old wooden bench. Taking her seat, she remembered him—as what she always did every time she went here. The rooftop always reminds her of him. Even when he left, Jessica did not stop from going here. He was her rainbow and she knew that someday he’d come back.

Jessica never lost hope.

Almost every day she would come, just to check if he had come back. Sometimes, she would even forget that he left. Sometimes, she would just think that he just gone through a serious training, practicing for a certain performance. Yuri would sometimes tell her she’s being insane but she didn’t mind at all.

Jessica waited for him, for her rainbow, to come back.

She has cried a thousand liter of tears already, both from the difficult circumstances she has been through, and from the thought of missing him. And Jessica knew, that after everything all these—after all these years—he would come back and become her rainbow again.

“Hey.”

It was like her favorite classical music playing on her ears as she heard a familiar voice. Her body stiffened at first, not until a series of tears fell from her eyes down to her cheeks. She turned, and finally saw the man she was longing for years.

She didn’t say a word nor was he.

Slowly, she took a step towards him as a smile formed on her face.

Jessica was crying still but it was not pain but happiness. She wouldn’t ask the real reason why he’d left, or the fact that he hadn’t mentioned about him leaving even once to her. She wouldn’t ask why he had returned or was it just temporary.

There was nothing that mattered to her now but the fact that Kim Jaejoong has returned.

“I missed you.” She whispered.

Jaejoong, also feeling the same thing as her, pulled her into his arms and made her feel better.

“Pabo, don’t you know that I was worried about you? Don’t you know how many times I cried because of you? Don’t you know how long I have waited?” she complained in his arms.

“After all these years?” I thought you were going to forget about me.

“After all these years.” You’re always in my heart.

Author’s Notes: I hope you guys are going to like this. I know, there was something wrong with the flow of my story here, right?^^ I’m so sorry for that. I gave my best on writing this though. And I also stopped myself a hundred times from inserting Donghae in the story. Kekekeke (and I also discovered how bad I am especially on making an ending!)~ anyway, drop a comment down below, ne? And also send a oneshot request, that would be lovely!^^ Valerie~ 5/10/12

P.S. I’m not actually sure if I got the whole thing right. I mean, the thing about Jaejoong’s situation. I consider myself a newbie still. I only know things about Super Junior, SHINee, and SNSD (and I admit, I don’t know even that much). So if ever there are some things needed to be changed or corrected, feel free to send me a PM or even just put it under the comment box below.

Next update from me might be either a Sunggyu/OC or an OnFany Oneshot. Detailed requests and fun prompts are usually the ones that I’d be able to finish quickly. So send them now!^^
