Waking up is a battle for Mihyun. It always is, as a matter of fact, but today feels like she's losing. The temptation of laying back and wrap herself in her blanket is too strong due to the dull ache in her head that's screaming at her to go back to sleep. Prying her heavy eyelids open, Mihyun swings her leg to the side of her bed and stands up, leaving the warmth of her bed. She wobbles to the shower with half-lidded eyes, feeling as if the whole room is spinning. Mihyun shakes her head lightly in hope to get rid of the dizziness and curses silently when it doubles instead. This is not good.
Passing by her table, Mihyun's eyes catch a glimpse of bright neon green numbers forming 6:38. She yawns, and it took her a split second before realizing she's late.
Spewing a couple of profanities, Mihyun continues her daily morning routine three times faster than usual.
She immediately interprets the symptoms as morning sickness, nothing to actually deter her from going to school. It's only a light migraine, it doesn't worth a day-off. Or so she thought. The pain strengthens into a full-on throbbing that Mihyun feels as if there's a construction site going on inside her head. The light migraine she has this morning turns into a vertigo. She tries to analyze the cause of her sickness, in case the school's doctor ask since she wants to go to the infirmary and to get some medicine. Mihyun recalls what she ate yesterday and messages her temple when she realizes she only ate a toast for breakfast, then nothing at all for lunch and dinner. Because her morning routine is mostly skipped to shorten her time to get ready, today's breakfast is unfortunately forgotten. This is a form of her body's protests towards her improper treatments . Have you ever been too caught up with something that you forgot to eat? Well, Mihyun does that a bit too often. She gets caught up in her homework, trying to minimize the flaws in hope for perfect grades. After all, her grades are going the only thing that's going to help her reach her dreams. Beside homework, medical books as thick as her pillows are one of the things that made the idea of eating dinner completely slipped out of her head. Once in a while, Kihyun would come into her room, reminding her to eat dinner and she would say yes just to prevent him from worrying over her. Then, she would go back to the book, completely immersed as her brain tries to memorize all of the information she reads. Sometimes, Kihyun or her father would bring her dinner to her room only to be left on the table, untouched by Mihyun. The poor food didn't get even the slightest bit of Mihyun's attention. Yesterday, Mihyun reads until she forgot to eat because she needs to forget about something too. Well, not something, more like someone. Yup, it's Kim Hanbin. The lanky guy with cold eyes occupy her head recently and she wants to get rid of him completely. Mihyun doesn't like the idea of thinking of Hanbin, so she figures she can think of something else— something she loves. Being a doctor is everything to Mihyun. She loves to help people and feels like she belongs to the world of medic. Since she was little, she's always mesmerized by how things in hospital work. How a special photograph can show your bones, or why when the doctor hits her knee lightly with a special hammer it would kick up. Hospitals are just full of wonder for little Mihyun, and the fact never changes until now. Whenever she gets an injection, she always stares intently at the needle that pierced her skin while kids her age would cry and try to get away. She figures instead of thinking somebody she hates, it's better to absorb knowledge about something she's absolutely in love with. But sometimes, things like this happen. Hayi had asked if she's okay, and Mihyun would be lying if she says yes but she did it nevertheless. She knows her best friend will make a huge deal out of it. Not that Mihyun doesn't like it since Hayi's intention is nothing but bad, but Mihyun prefers to avoid the feeling of being babied. It's just a normal flu, something Mihyun can totally handle on her own. Once she drinks the medicine, everything will go back to normal and her vision won't spin anymore. Let alone thinking about asking Hanbin about the ice bucket incident, Mihyun can't even think about how she could reach her classroom as the sound of bell rings past her ears. She walks closer to the wall, wishing Hayi is by her side, but the latter has an important meeting with her journalist club. It's not like Mihyun can stop her from attending the meeting. Her breath deepens as she tries with all her might to clear her vision by squinting because it keeps going out of focus. Mihyun feels like every bone in her melt, surrendering to the pain. Trying with all her might to reach her classroom, Mihyun takes one step forward and winces when her head pounds as if somebody's banged her head to the wall repeatedly. The pain spreads from her head to every fiber of her body, weighing her down
