Chapter 03

april.#20

No matter how trivial the meeting and the incidents that follow may seem,

It was strange meeting Chae Soo Kyung for the first time. When he first saw the music student, it was a mere month before he decided to rent the apartment; just a month before the second semester ended. And he had what was undeniably a state of creativity block. He had one week to come up with some... thing to hand in for his final project. And why hadn’t he done this earlier? Because there was nothing that had inspired him. He could take a million pictures of the world around him and he would discard every single one. He didn’t even know the reason why this was happening. He usually had no problem finding a subject to focus on and going for it, but he was in a major rut. So, he was sitting outside, in cloudy weather (to his defense, it was blindingly sunny earlier), trying to find a spark of inspiration. It sounded cheesy, especially for him. In fact, the next few minutes were even cheesier but this was the unfortunate reality of the first time he saw Soo Kyung.

Drops had started to fall from the sky; one by one they fell, slowly. Then came the downpour. The frigid globules of water hit his face, creating a stinging sensation on his skin. Luckily enough, he didn’t have to deal with the rain much longer since there was a roofed sitting area not far off from where he was sitting before. He shook his head, the strands of hair swaying side to side, making tiny droplets scatter around him. His clothes were a bit damp from running through the downpour, but at least he had gotten his camera into its case before it could’ve gotten wet. There was nobody around except for him, at least until he saw a figure sprinting his direction. If he had terrible vision, he probably would’ve mistaken the person as just a really manly woman. But as the figure reached the shelter, he knew the person was clearly male.

He was broad shouldered, not much taller than himself, and was pretty much soaked from head to toe. The male’s hair drooped limply on his wet shoulder, and his clothing clung onto his body, which after a quick glance (he wasn’t checking him out... okay, maybe a bit), he noticed that he had a good muscle build under the black Henley. He couldn’t even resist pointing his camera at the mystery man and snapping a shot, not even phasing the distracted male who was busy checking the condition of his bag, the instrument in the case he was holding, and if the shower was ever going to let up any time soon. He had kept snapping shots, trying his best not to alert the subject of his actions. When he felt satisfied by the number of shots he had, he packed the camera away again so the other male wouldn’t notice.

He was still curious of the other male though. He rarely saw males growing out their hair, considering every other one around him had their hair as short as his was. The man’s dyed hair was only a tad bit longer than shoulder-length, though it did look like his hair was cut recently due to how even the ends were. He was quite attractive; his irises were almost like it was one single shade, set behind double eye lids. He also had a straight, Greek, nose, and quite full lips, though they were quite pale at the moment, nearly matching the pallor of his skin. However, there was still a small hint of rosiness in his cheeks. He couldn’t blame the guy though, he must’ve been freezing cold from the wet clothing. In fact, he was slightly shivering from the transitional autumn to winter weather as well. He never looked his way even once, but once he had turned his head to meet his, he wasn’t quite sure what had stirred.

The storm had let up only a couple of seconds into their momentary stare. The taller male gathered his belongings, nodding at him in acknowledgement, and ran off. He was left with an unsure impression of the handsome man, after all, he had only took time to appreciate the physical aspects of said person. When he got back to the dorm, he skimmed through his shots, spending the whole night breezing through the rest of the requirements after he selected the shots he was going to submit. He never knew that it was ever going to be displayed for a student art night for anybody to see.

He moved into his nicely sized, modern officetel when the long winter ended and the weather wasn’t being crappy to him. It was a clear day in April, where there were barely any clouds painted into a seamless blue background. He had his six friends who he had known since middle school help him move in, but told them to leave the unpacking to him. He had a few things that he didn’t need them to see. There was one last box outside that he had to bring in, and the moment he walked out – oh the gods of predictability had to honour him with the vision of his unintentional photography project model after a good five months. And if it wasn’t tacky enough, he was unlocking the apartment right next to his. They looked at each other for another good moment before his new neighbour’s lips tipped up in a friendly gesture.

“Are you moving in next door?”

He gave a silent, owlish nod.

A hand was extended towards him, “I’m Chae Soo Kyung. It’s nice to meet you.”

The warmth in his fingertips was creeping into his cold ones, “Kim Myung Soo. It’s nice to meet you too.”

Soo Kyung’s smile grew a bit bigger after he gave his name, “Well, I have some work to do, but if you ever need my help with anything, don’t hesitate to ask. I’ll see you around?”

He shook his head again, “Yeah. See you around.” He lifted the box, ready to walk inside before he heard his name. He peeked from behind his door to see his neighbour’s slight smirk.

“By the way, I liked how the pictures turned out, just so you know,” he had given him a small wave before shutting the door.

He didn’t even know why he felt so flustered.

a relationship is made.
