Why do you look so tired? I stared at my wife who was sleeping beside me in concern, her soft cheeks gently so I didn't wake her up. Do you even sleep when I'm gone? I didn't get a chance to talk to Sunhee at all since I came home yesterday and of course she would still be asleep at the early time of 7 AM but I missed and craved for my wife's attention. It was always disappointing to know how much I missed out on my wife's life. It was like whenever I left for business trips, something always changed with my wife and child. Just like now, how Sunhee had obviously lost weight during the period of time I was gone.
“Daddy?” The airy voice of Jiyul caught my attention and my eyes diverted away from Sunhee.
“Hey, pumpkin.” I slowly slid off the bed, careful not to make too much motion and walked towards my daughter. “What are you doing up so early?” I asked, lifting her up into my arms and giving her a morning kiss.
“Are you going to work today?” Were her the first words that came out of , ignoring my question and staring up at me with her sweet eyes. I chuckled lightly at her hopeful voice and kissed her ample cheeks once more. “No, pumpkin. Not today.”
“Really?” The sweet child's voice rose and octave and it was clear how happy and excited she was.
“Really.” I hummed, carrying the chubby girl around the house until we made it into the kitchen. “I'm taking the whole day off to spend it with you and mommy. Aren't you excited?”
“Yay!” She cheered merrily and bounced happily in her high chair, clapping her chubby her hands together and her eyes turned downwards to half moon shapes.
“What do you want to eat pumpkin?” I asked, looking around the large kitchen for something suitable to feed my daughter. “Can I have a muffin?” The four year-old pleaded.
“A muffin?..” I searched through the kitchen for my daughter's preferred breakfast, digging through cupboards and drawers. “Where does mommy put the muffins?”
“Right here.”
I turned around and grinned rather widely as soon as I set eyes on my wife standing near the kitchen entrance, holding up a plate of blueberry muffins. “Sunhee!” It had been far too long since I've last talked to my wife and even longer since I've seen her....awake that w
