Extrañar

They haven’t met in months, separated by a body of water. It was but just one thousand one hundred and fifty two kilometers and two hours away from each other. They talk often enough at night and she texted as regularly as she could around her filming schedule. However, nothing, not even the aid of technology could replace physical touch. Irreplaceable were the warmth of her skin, the scent of her favourite perfume and the taste of her lips. He misses her terribly. He had thought she was the touchy one of them both, yet he now realizes how miserable he was as he goes by weeks without linking arms with her, holding hands, crossing fingers.

He wished he could return home, to her; but the loss of his passport had delayed his return especially since the consulate was closed over the New Year. He had grand plans for their first New Year count down, a fancy dinner followed by a stroll along the Han River and watching the fireworks go off at midnight. Yet, even the best-laid plans go awry.  They did have dinner together, somewhat, with him on one end of the table and the laptop on the other. He watched as she puttered around her apartment, cleaning up the remnants of her dinner while occasionally sipping from her glass, wishing that she was there with him instead of being miles and miles away.

It didn’t matter if they weren’t in that fancy Italian restaurant she loves, if there wasn’t good food, expensive wine or the classy ambience
