Ruining the Happy

"The scars of your love remind me of us
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless
I can't help feeling
We could have had it all

(You're gonna wish you never had met me)

But you played it
You played it
You played it to the beat.
"

Adele - Rolling In The Deep

Sungmin didn’t have a change to ask about how the night at the Seasoning’s one year party had went from Kyuhyun before he was off to his date with Ryeowook. He had been sleeping when Kyuhyun had gotten home last night and when he had left for work in the morning, Kyuhyun had still been sleeping. And now, when he was back home, Kyuhyun was at the work.

Sungmin wasn’t sure if he actually even wanted to know but he could always ask about it later from Ryeowook, if Ryeowook was somehow affected by their night together at the party. Had something happened at the party to get Ryeowook to ask him out for a proper date or was there something else behind it? Sungmin was, of course, happy about this date but he couldn’t silence the small voices inside his head, whispering doubts in his heart.

Sungmin sighed as he run his fingers through his hair. He had been planning to cut it but now it was maybe a little too long but he had to deal with it. He usually didn’t really mind what he was wearing but now he felt like he needed to put some effort. His closet thou was disaster. Nothing pleased him and in the end he settled for jeans and a blue dress shirt. It was still kind of plain but Sungmin knew he looked good on those and hoped Ryeowook would think so too.

As he made his way out of the apartment to the busy streets he couldn’t help but wonder how their usual hangouts would differ from this time. Would it even differ, it felt like they were on dates when they hang out. Ryeowook hadn’t really pinpointed what they were about to do so Sungmin wasn’t even sure what to expect.

He was a bit early but so was Ryeowook. Sungmin spotted him almost immediately he got the station where they had promised to meet. The younger man was dressed casually: he had black pants and jacket and yellow shirt underneath. Colors suited Ryeowook and Sungmin smiled as he approached the younger male. When Ryeowook noticed him, he beamed at him and linked their hands together.

“Hi!”

“Hi,” Sungmin grinned a little awkwardly but Ryeowook kept smiling kindly at him. “What have you planned for us today?”

“Nice of you for asking. But I’m not telling!”

Sungmin laughed and Ryeowook tugged his arm.

“Let’s have fun, okay?”

Sungmin nodded and couldn’t help but pull Ryeowook closer and place a gently kiss on other one’s cheek.

They’re going to have so much fun, Sungmoin decided. He decided he wasn’t going to bring up any topics that could lead them to talk about Kyuhyun, he was going to keep Ryeowook busy with himself and he was going to enjoy his time the fullest.

He felt happy.

It felt nice, holding Ryeowook’s smaller hand in his, and be dragged through darkening streets and do some window shopping and hang around by the river and steal kisses when no one was paying attention to them and he wouldn’t have wanted to let go but they sat opposite each others at the restaurant and Ryeowook kept his both hands busy while he was eating so Sungmin just couldn’t get a hold of one of them. Sungmin was happy of Ryeowook to be so open with him and if this was leading to a real relationship, or even to a second date, Sungmin couldn’t have asked for more.

It was perfect until Hyukjae walked into the same restaurant. Sungmin had hoped it would never happen, the bumping into him, not at least when he was out with Ryeowook. He had hoped they would eventually forget each other’s even thou it sounded rude even in his own ears, but that could have been the best option out of it.

***

Hyukjae is with a friend, Sungmin remembers him from the dance classes but he can’t recall the name. Hyukjae doesn’t look happy to see him and Sungmin knows the other man has had his suspicious about Sungmin avoiding him. He had been busy with courting Ryeowook to actually care about Hyukjae but now as he sees the other man, his heart clenches.

He still remembers those looks Hyukjae kept giving him during their time together. And he might have acted like a when he had ignored Hyukjae’s calls.

They chat, small talk about dance classes and how Hyukjae has been and Ryeowook doesn’t say anything at all and Hyukjae’s friends keeps smiling stupidly at them and Sungmin wants to strangle someone when Ryeowook pipes in.

“Ah, but Sungmin, you haven’t introduced us!”

And for a moment, for a sweet little moment Sungmin wishes they would stop smiling too politely at each other as he points at Ryeowook.

“Hyukjae, this is my friend.”

Sungmin tries to sound relaxed but he knows it all is going to fall apart right when Ryeowook bows to Hyukjae and says: “Hi! Nice to meet you! My name is Ryeowook.”

Of course Hyukjae knows everything about Ryeowook.

***

Kyuhyun hated Sungmin with a passion. He wanted to smash something, he wanted to destroy anything that belonged to Sungmin because of the small note saying “On a date. Don’t wait” made him so furious.

Ryeowook had told him later at the party that he had asked Sungmin out before they had arrived. He wouldn’t explain why or what he was trying to accomplish by that and Kyuhyun had disagreed vocally.

Kyuhyun knew he had had acted too harshly at the party and he knew he shouldn’t have left he Ryeowook alone after their… whatever chat it had been because that stupid new Dongwoon bloke had been there and waited them to come out of the corridor.

Kyuhyun got a promise of his own date with Ryeowook thou.

Only two days after today but Kyuhyun was still furious. Sungmin had the advance and he didn’t like it all. What made it all so much worse was the fact that Sungmin didn’t even know how good his stance was compared to Kyuhyun. And because Kyuhyun had been so furious at himself and Ryeowook, he wasn’t sure what to wait from his date or if he could even deal with Sungmin after the man would get back from his date.

Kyuhyun mind was a mess and he wasn’t even sure if he wanted to deal with it never either and that stupid note made him even more angered.

He was angered because it wasn’t anymore silly and kind of a dreamlike, it was time to pick up the winner of Ryeowook’s heart. The game, if you wanted to call it that, was ending soon and Kyuhyun wasn’t sure when and why Ryeowook had made up his heart. It was obviously before the Seasoning’s party but what had made him decide to act upon his feelings, was the question.  Also had Ryeowook only decided to go on a date with Sungmin and not with him and if, what if Kyuhyun had made something change because of his outburst. Kyuhyun didn’t know and Ryeowook wouldn’t tell.

Kyuhyun wouldn’t ask.

He wasn’t even sure if he wanted know and maybe that’s why it was actually good that Sungmin’s date was first so then his date with Ryeowook could be even better. Their date would be the best and perfect.

But right now Kyuhyun couldn’t stay at home. He couldn’t be there when he knew how that stupid note mocked him at the counter. On the other hand he didn’t want to go out either, with his luck he would bump into Sungmin and Ryeowook and he was sure none of them wanted that.

So he called his friend, whose girlfriend invited him to have a late dinner with them and he was happy for a moment. Food always made him happy. That was one reason to like Ryeowook.

When he finally got back home he sure didn’t expect to find Ryeowook who was sitting on their couch, looking sad and tired.

***

Hyukjae doesn’t cry but Sungmin can see the tears hiding behind his eyes, ready to fall free when he turns away. It’s Hyukjae’s pride, never let the one to know how much it actually hurts.

“If you walk away now, don’t come back!”

Sungmin doesn’t even feel it when the cold air slashes against his face as he walks down the street, his heart pounding in his ears and he wishes all the best for Hyukjae.

***

“What are you thinking about?”

Ryeowook jerks and Kyuhyun snorts sitting down next to him, side to side.

Ryeowook blinks at Kyuhyun, looking up and down at him.

“I didn’t hear you to come in.”

“You looked like you were deep in your thoughts.”

Ryeowook hums, turning away from Kyuhyun.

They sit in silence for a moment until Kyuhyun turns to look at door of Sungmin’s room.

“How did you get in anyway? I thought… Sungmin isn’t home, right…?”

“Oh, he let me in when he went… to talk with Hyukjae or something. We bumped into him while we’re eating… It was… some time ago.”

This time Kyuhyun hums, silently singing hallelujas in his head, and comfortable silence fells on them again.  They haven’t talked after their little argument at the Seasoning’s party but it seems like it’s all forgotten now. Ryeowook is a little tense but the way Kyuhyun sits so close makes him relax eventually and he leans closer and lets his head rest against Kyuhyun’s shoulder.

“How was your day?” he asks and Kyuhyun shrugs.

“You know, the usual.”

“I… I actually don’t know. Tell me about it.”

Kyuhyun snorts but starts telling about his day. Ryeowook closes his eyes and lets Kyuhyun’s voice to lull him close to the dreamland.

“It wasn’t that boring, my day I mean…”

Ryeowook jerks up as Kyuhyun pokes his nose and laughs.

“Sorry, I’m just… tired…”

Kyuhyun grins and Ryeowook can’t help but grin back. It’s so nice to have Kyuhyun smiling, he had always liked the way corners of Kyuhyun’s lips curve when he smiles and—

“You’re on a date with another man, so please, stop staring at my lips like that.”

Ryeowook tries to keep smiling but something in Kyuhyun’s tone makes him afraid of something he doesn’t know so he withdraws slowly and as he tries to pull his legs up and hug them, Kyuhyun takes a hold of his arm and yanks him awkwardly closer, too close and….

The door bangs and Kyuhyun jumps off of the couch and Ryeowook feels empty and cold all of sudden. Also a little offended, why wouldn’t Kyuhyun stay close? They both wait and soon Sungmin stomps to their view only to stop dead as he sees them.

“Did I interrupt something?” the older male snaps and Ryeowook winces. Kyuhyun shakes his head.

“Not really.  What crawled up in your ?”

Sungmin hisses and when his eyes meet Ryeowook’s all the anger wears off and Ryeowook sees a man who needs a hug. He stands and walks to Sungmin and before he even can lift his arms, Sungmin had captured him into a hug, burying his face into the crook of his neck. Sungmin doesn’t say anything, he breathes in and out, Ryeowook feels the puffs against his neck.

Sungmin doesn’t cry.

And then Ryeowook hears it, the bang of a door and his heart breaks.

Chapter 9: urggggghh!I've red this in one go & I certainly don't like how Wook's treating the two of them. Seriously Wook? Is that really difficult to choose? Why must complicate things? We all know loving two persons would be a mess. No offense Wook, but I hate you right now for X/....
I'll just sleep this off & maybe tomorrow I can congratulate you for finally coming in your senses at the end XD..

Chapter 10: Jeez this was one hell of a rollercoaster ride! I swear the whole time my heart beat was so fast and the tip of my ears felt so weird and warm lol
Damn so complicated!! I hate the fact that kyu wasn't brave enough to suggest being more than friends because it seems that ryeonggu wanted to be more than friends.. Like when kyu asks if they could be friends once more and wookie answers with something like 'okay if you wanna be just friends yet again' That made me think wookie was disappointed and was expecting more..

Ah anyway this was good!! I AM GOING TO BELIEVE KYUWOOKARE HAPPY AND TOGETHER<3
Bye.
