Phobia

Incomprehensible Love

EUNHYUK'S P.O.V.

The loud school bell rang, signaling the start of lunch break. However, that usually loud sound didn't even register in my mind as KyuHyun, who I met on the way to the cafeteria, walked beside me and asked me a very uncomfortable question.

"Why are you following me?"

I looked up at KyuHyun and realized that he wasn't even looking at me. All he did was stare at his phone. "Uh...I..." Before I finished my sentence, DongHae appeared out of nowhere and declared, "He, my dear dear friend, is my property. So you will be seeing him a lot from now on," KyuHyun looked up and raised an eyebrow at DongHae, who was standing between KyuHyun and I. "N-no, that's not it. This is just a misunderstanding!" DongHae rolled his eyes at what I said and scoffed. "Yeah, right. Don't even try to protest. You are mine and you know it."

I seriously felt like crying when I saw the smirk that was playing at KyuHyun's lips. Is DongHae going to tell everyone---OH MY GOODNESS WHAT IS HE DOING ON TOP OF THAT TABLE.

"From now on, this monkey is mine, so DON'T TOUCH HIM, okay?~" DongHae screamed and the small amount of people that wasn't already staring at him turned around to stare. And to make things worse, DongHae climbed down just to make me stand on the table with him. "THIS IS THE MONKEY. MEMORIZE HIS FACE! YOU HAVE THREE SECONDS! ONE, TWO, THREE!" Then I was turned around forcefully, causing me to hit face first onto DongHae's built chest. I blushed despite myself and deciding to give in to my desires, I snuggled into that comfy chest of his.

I quickly unattached myself when I felt DongHae tense and climbed down the table. I immediately spotted LeeTeuk who just arrived so I ran over to him, leaving DongHae and KyuHyun. "LeeTeuk hyung!!!" I screamed and he gracefully caught my forceful hug. His chest vibrated as he chuckled, asking me what's wrong. "Life is hard..." I sighed and LeeTeuk blinked repeatedly while patting my head innocently.

"YAH, DON'T TOUCH MY PROPERTY!" Oh no. I can already imagine the scene: DongHae charging towards LeeTeuk and I, LeeTeuk getting possessive, and an ugly, loud, verbal fight breaks out.

Unfortunately, that was exactly what happened. From the corner of my eye (Since I was squashed by LeeTeuk still), I saw KyuHyun trying to restrain the jealous DongHae, but poor guy was too weak and got thrown to the side. I think I saw SungMin helping him up, but I wasn't sure since I suddenly found myself stuck in between DongHae and LeeTeuk, the both of them pulling at each of my arms.

"I WARNED YOU!" DongHae pulled me with such force that I collided with his body, my head hitting his strong shoulders with such an impact that it caused me to feel dizzy, and he continued on by landing a straight punch on LeeTeuk's face. I could hear a loud thump, and I think that was LeeTeuk's colliding with the floor.

I tried to turn my head without altering my position too much so DongHae wouldn't notice, but as soon as I saw a person who looked like KangIn help LeeTeuk up, everything turned black, and I suspected that I, Lee Hyuk Jae, have fainted like the lame person I am.

DONGHAE'S P.O.V.

Right after Hyukkie (Sounds SO much better than EunHyuk) bolted off the table, I chased him through the crowd. When I saw a guy with light-brown hair hugging my property, I charged towards them and started screaming at the stranger to let go of my monkey. Instead of abiding like the remaining school population, the stranger fought back verbally and tightened his hug on Hyukkie. I saw red and I wanted to strangle the man, but KyuHyun intervened. Well, he tried to. I was obviously stronger and managed to kick him to the side. Normally, I would've felt guilty, but because my monkey is at stake, I blindly pulled the said monkey towards me and landed a perfect punch on the stranger's face.

The stranger fell down on the floor and soon after, a relatively-muscular guy appeared and dropped the food he was holding. He knelt down and helped the stranger up. In an instant, I started to block the muscular guy's quick attacks. I felt Hyukkie go limp in my arms, but I was too occupied to think about that as of now.

At the end, my other friends arrived and we managed to defeat the stranger and his two friends (a petite boy appeared out of nowhere and started screaming; I think he's also part of the group). Once the fight ended, my friends and I exited the cafeteria and only then did I realize that Hyukkie has passed out. I panicked and my friends instructed me to bring him to the infirmary. They couldn't accompany me since lunch break was ending, so I rushed to the infirmary unaccompanied.

Upon reaching, I saw a guy applying some alcohol on KyuHyun's hand. The guy stared at us sharply, but did not comment on anything. Then, I gulped, remembering what I did to my best friend. I apologized profusely, and KyuHyun called me stupid for picking a fight because of the 'monkey-looking human'. However, he forgave me under the condition that I'd buy him the latest PS4 game and left with the quiet guy, leaving me alone with Hyukkie.

Still carrying him princess-style, I searched for the nurse but she wasn't in. Because of that, I randomly found an empty bed and laid Hyukkie on it. I sat there staring at him for a few minutes, but decided that it's about time he should wake up. I shook him violently but received no response. I pouted and got under the sheets with him. Since he wouldn't wake up, I might as well take a short nap.

"D-DongHae...?"

I forced myself to open my eyes and blinked when a monkey looked up at me with large eyes. I stared at him for a few moments, eyebrows probably meeting, to register the situation.

Oh. It's not a monkey, it's MY monkey. I puffed up my cheeks when I remembered everything and shouted at him. "I ALREADY TOLD YOU THAT YOU ARE MY PROPERTY, SO YOU CAN'T GO AROUND HUGGING PEOPLE AS YOU PLEASE!" He visibly flinched but I continued to stare at him angrily.

He nodded a few seconds later and I instantly flashed him a smile to show how satisfied I was. His face turned really red and he tried to get out of my arms, but I still felt sleepy so I held him closer. Before I could close my eyes, a woman's voice interrupted me.

"Excuse me, DongHae-ssi, you have been sleeping there for an hour now...D-don't you have class?" I sat up, frustrated and I could feel Hyukkie do the same thing. I glared at the nurse and demanded that she treat Hyukkie right away, purposely avoiding her question. It was obvious that I wanted to skip my afternoon classes anyway.

The nurse nodded and went to Hyukkie's side of the bed. "N-no, I'm f-fine; Really!" Hyukkie put up his hands in protest and I simply yawned. "At least let me check your temperature, HyukJae-ssi?" The nurse asked in her sickeningly calm voice. Hyukkie pouted slightly but still allowed the nurse to stick a thermometer under his armpit. After a few seconds, the nurse pulled out the thermometer without warning and Hyukkie started laughing non-stop. I wanted to stay moody, but I couldn't help but laugh along. Damn, this guy can spread laughter like the plague.

As soon as we stopped laughing, the nurse showed us two pieces of paper. "There is nothing wrong with you, HyukJae-ssi. Your temperature appears to be normal, so here's a slip for the both of you so you can be excused from class for the rest of the afternoon, just in case you are exhausted and needs rest," The nurse informed quickly and passed a slip to Hyukkie and I. I took a look at the slip and it was filled with boring, black letters. Disinterested, I threw it into the bin on the way out. Hyukkie picked it up since my shot wasn't exactly successful. However, he threw it into the bin once I told him I didn't need it.

"Where are you heading to, DongHae-ssi?" I felt the monkey following close behind me and I've decided that lying wouldn't help. "To the rooftop." "If you aren't going to attend your afternoon classes, then...uh...wouldn't you want to go home?" I laughed at his suggestion. "And what made you think I'd want to go home so early?" I heard a loud gulp and there weren't any more responses, so I turned to make sure the monkey was still there.

Thankfully, he was, and he was staring at me helplessly. I smirked. I seem to have this obsession for monkeys like him. "You know what, I've decided. Let's not hang out at the rooftop. We should do something fun." I applauded smart idea and dragged the protesting guy out.

EUNHYUK P.O.V.

What am I doing here. I am worried sick about LeeTeuk hyung, but I am too much of a coward to call him in DongHae's presence. I could ask DongHae himself, seeing as he's next to me, but I decided not to when he suddenly made a loud cheering sound.

As you can see, I am currently skipping afternoon classes with no valid reason (seeing that I wasn't feeling sick at all), watching DongHae play mini basketball games at a nearby arcade. I shuffled my feet self-consciously, knowing full-well that the people here are staring at us, perhaps because we were still in our school uniform. It must be rare to see students from such a prestigious school coming out to the arcade instead of studying at home.

Although I feel guilty for being here with DongHae so willingly, as SungMin has not completed his research yet; I found myself smiling at how much this resembles a date. This scene is exactly what you would expect from typical shoujo mangas (that I love oh so much), and I couldn't help but move closer to DongHae, as stealthily as possible.

"Yah, monkey! Why are you just standing there?" DongHae tossed me a cup of arcade coins and pulled me to the other side of the arcade so we could play on the dancing machine. "Four coins," DongHae screamed over the loud noise in the arcade and for the first time, I looked into the heavy cup. I was shocked to see the amount of coins the small plastic cup contained. It must have cost a lot to exchange for so many.

Still in a daze, I felt myself passing a few coins to DongHae, and got pulled somewhere soon after. I snapped out of my reverie when a loud voice boomed from beside me. I jumped visibly and glared at the offensive person, but it turned out to be the speaker...of a dancing machine.

My eyes are probably popping out by now. I swiftly turned my head to look beside me, and surely, Lee Dong Hae was already choosing a song to dance to.

Sorry Sorry Sorry Sorry,
Naega naega naega meonjeo,

"DongHae-ssi!"

At this point, DongHae was already grinning, starting to feel the beat of the popular song.

Nege nege nege ppajyeo,
Ppajyeo ppajyeo beoryeo baby,

"DONGHAE-SSI!!"

DongHae turned, finally hearing my voice. Still happy, he properly smiled at me for the first time and I blushed beetroot red.

Shawty Shawty Shawty Shawty,
Nuni busyeo busyeo busyeo,

DongHae tilted his head slightly as a silent version of "What's wrong?". I tried my best not to stutter and screamed, "I CAN'T DANCE!"

DongHae laughed and shook his head, as if I was a child who just acted like an adult.

Sumi makhyeo makhyeo makhyeo,
Naega michyeo michyeo baby,

"Everyone can dance!" DongHae screamed at me and decided to ignored me in favour of dancing. Damn, this guy sure is good at dancing. Well, no matter how good DongHae is, I can't, so... I distanced myself as much as possible so I won't get in his way. Of course, I didn't dare get off the dancing machine.

The song ended three minutes later, and DongHae laughed at my 2 marks. I was shocked to see that I didn't get a zero. "Why didn't you dance?" DongHae asked as he skipped off the machine, signaling for me to follow him.

"I...can't dance." "And I told you, everyone can dance."

"Everyone can dance, but not everyone can dance as well as you," I stated, wanting to glare at him, but not being able to. How can you glare at someone so cute, yet so handsome?

DongHae hummed at my statement and led me to one of the karaoke booths. "You're going to sing?" I asked, when we entered the karaoke booth. There was a coin slot at the side, and DongHae put in enough to last us for an hour. After I closed the door firmly, DongHae took the remote and replied, "Nope; Can you sing, though?" I shook my head immediately and DongHae sighed. "You know...you won't know 'till you try." I frowned. "I did, and I failed miserably. I am never, ever going to dance again. I've never tried singing though." I answered, trying to keep my voice low, as I remembered some past events.

DongHae became more curious. "Try dancing for me. I'll be the judge of your skills." I looked at him as if he was insane. "WHAT?! NO NO NO NO, NO!" How could I show my weakness in front of my crush? He won't even keep me as his 'property' if he found out just how bad I was. Perhaps, he saw how stressed I was and pitied me. Or, he was just doing this for his own amusement, as he said:

"It's okay, don't worry." He smiled sweetly. I (obviously) blushed. "You can dance in front of me. If your skills are bad, you don't need to feel embarrassed. You can trust me to keep this a secret. Besides, if you're really bad at it, I can tutor you!" DongHae said cheerfully, his eyes turning into crescent moons. A secret? It sounds nice...to share a secret between you and your crush. But... "No, you'll seriously hate me when you see the way I dance." I told him timidly. As much as I trusted him for keeping this confidential, I couldn't bring myself to trust him to treat me the same way after I danced.

DongHae huffed, and picked a song.

Soomeul gotdo chatji mothae naneun piharyeogo aesseo bwado
Geobujocha hal su eopneun
nege gadhyeobeorin na

"I command you to dance. Now."

I looked at the screen. The MV was playing, and to be completely honest, I really love to dance. It feels good to dance, but it really breaks me when the people watching start to hate on me.

"NOW."

I flinched and looked at DongHae, who was, surprisingly, smiling. I sighed. Well, if I ran away, he could easily chase after me, seeing how athletic he is. So, I walked to the front and faced the screen. After deciding that the moves are slightly repetitive, I tried to follow the dance moves as well as I could.

Sarangieotdamyeon jeongmal saranghaetdeon georamyeon naege ireojineun mala
Her whisper is the lucifer
The Lucifer

I swung my arms around, keeping my hands straight and arms as stiff as possible. I bent my left leg and let my right one follow suit. The little beats started to play and I moved to my left so I could clap my hands lightly, before doing a robotic kind of routine. I kept an eye on the video, not caring that all DongHae could see was only my back-view. I folded my arms then, and banged my head forward.

Nareul mukkgo gadundamyeon sarangdo mukkin chae
Miraedo mukkin chae keojil su eobtneunde
Ja yurobge biweo nuh go barabwa
Ojik neoman chae ulge, neoman gadeuk chae ulge

I clenched my hands into fists and continued to try and complete the dance. After a few long minutes, the song finally ended and I found myself falling short of Oxygen. Panting, I nervously turned around to look at DongHae. What would he say? Well, even if I was bad, he can't really comment because I didn't face him while I danced---DongHae's expression was the same as the one the students gave me at the talent show back when I was only a child.

My largest phobia was probably showcasing my dancing skills, and DongHae's silent response had made it worse. I could feel my eyes water as I stared at DongHae who had his lips parted, eyes large. It felt as if he was staring right through me, as if I wasn't standing in front of him. Knowing it was my cue to leave, I rubbed my eyes and ran out.

Normal P.O.V

As EunHyuk danced to the beat of Lucifer, DongHae fell into a daze. He couldn't help but become seriously mesmerized by the strong yet elegant dance moves. How could he say he tried? And that he failed? DongHae repeated those questions in his mind the whole time the song played. When the song finally ended, EunHyuk turned around, eyes clenched shut, fists at his sides. When he had calmed down from his hype, he slowly opened his eyes to see a gaping DongHae.

Gaping could mean lots of things. Among them, it could mean that the audience is disgusted, scared, or perhaps even stunned. To anyone else, it would be obvious that DongHae is gaping because he was amazed, but EunHyuk is a dense boy, and, seeing DongHae's expression, he immediately misunderstood. He did not realize that the silence from the mentioned past talent show, and the silence from DongHae, actually meant that they were simply astonished.

So out he ran, leaving a seemingly paralyzed fish behind.
