homesickness

coaptation

In the two weeks from the moment Zitao had barely recognized his name scrawled haphazardly on a piece of paper that was held over the blonde Korean's head, Zitao had learnt two things about Sehun, he was far too attractive to be legally allowed to exist, and he liked to instigate situations that would amuse him. This 'blind date' with Sehun's hyung, Lu Han and Lu Han's high school friend was another fun moment that Sehun had passed off as trying to help Zitao 'feel at home'. There was no doubt in Zitao's mind that Sehun was planning some kind of game at his expense. The male ran his fingers down the front of his shirt in agitation as he glanced up to see Sehun studying him from his spot on the floor.

Sehun was mindlessly making bored expressions when he heard the Chinese exchange student sigh loudly for the fifth time, and his eyes darted up to Zitao. The other still stood in front of the mirror, as he did every time he had to go out alone with Sehun, and Sehun couldn't help but feel offended that Zitao didn't seem to enjoy any of their time together. But then, he couldn't tell anything about Zitao. The other was quiet until he had something particular to say and it was rarely in understandable Korean. Lu Han had said he'd get the Zitao to open up, and Sehun couldn't remember what he said back, but they'd both started laughing before Lu Han shot out a date and time--which had come far too quickly for both Sehun and Zitao.

"Ready yet?" Sehun attempted to be polite, and Zitao hesitated again, shooting the mirror a look before he nodded.

It was another five minutes before they found themselves out on the street corner, and Sehun gazed around the front of his building  It was only just starting to go dark, but he cringed when a cars headlights hit his eyes sharply. It was in those few seconds that he felt someone brush past him and as his eyes opened, he heard the loud honking of a car that almost hit Zitao as he dashed across the road. The Korean male impulsively followed, and Tao heard him shout some sort of profanity as he stepped back onto the safety of the sidewalk on the other side. He turned a little, glancing over his shoulder as if making sure he didn't leave his body behind him, and then to Tao.

"How many times have I told you to wait for the light? I was clicking the button," Sehun motioned a little, but he must have spoke too fast; Zitao only looked between him and the sidewalk they'd just run from.

"Let's go," Sehun added two seconds after, and Zitao showed he had a hang of those Korean words.

The two walked in mostly silence, although Sehun sometimes paused in his tracks distracted by one thing or another. It always surprised him how sure Tao seemed off himself, even though he had no idea where he was or where he was going. Whenever Sehun glanced over at him, he seemed a step ahead and if he paused for too long, Zitao would probably not stop to wait for him. There was more proof of this when Zitao almost passed the place they were going to meet Lu Han and Lu Han's friend for dinner.

"In here," Sehun used as little words as possible as he grabbed onto Tao's wrist and stopped him from walking for miles and getting lost in the middle of Seoul.

Zitao wore a serious expression for a fun dinner date, and he seemed oddly suspicious of the place that Sehun was directing them towards. He studied the words at the front of the place and then the people behind the sheet of glass. It was kind of cute the way the Chinese male raised his hand and tried to decode the Korean that was pasted over the front.; his lips making the shapes of each of the Hangul. It didn't take Tao long to turn his head and point towards the restaurant.

"Jjamppong?

Sehun nodded before he began to pull the Chinese student into the restaurant, the smell and chatter immediately washing into the street when the door was opened. It was cluttered and full with various groups of people. As the stepped further into the restaurant, Zitao realized how much bigger it was inside than it had seemed outside, and he was distracted by two drunken men in suits who were bellowing over the top of the constant buzz of chatter that filled the room. It was only when he felt a tug on his arm that his eyes feel on the face of his Korean guide that his feet began to move again. They found a table in the far back after Sehun had a few words with a young girl behind the counter who looked at the both for a short moment before nodding and ushering them towards the empty spot.

The wall covered in dishes and prices in won sat above their heads, and Sehun leant back happily in his seat.

"Lu Han hyung and I are friends with the owners daughter," Sehun explained as he leant closer to Tao so they could hear one another, and he even repeated a little in the Chinese he knew, mostly, 'friends', 'owner' and 'daughter.'

Zitao nodded a little as he glanced at Sehun and then towards the girl who had immediately turned back to working.

Why did Tao smell nice? That thought made Sehun shoot the male next to him a confused look, before straightened himself in his seat. He dug his hand into his pocket and placed his handphone on the surface of the table between himself and Tao. The Chinese male's eyes seemed to fall wherever the loudest noise was, and Sehun couldn't read whether it was out of fear or curiousity. Zitao was completely unreadable to Sehun, and he had heard so many people explain how they couldn't read him--clearly Zitao must be completely indecipherable ancient language. The Korean tapped his screen to light up and he saw he had a message from Lu Han.

He and his friend were running late. Sehun texted quickly back that it was okay before he nudged Zitao until the others eyes fell onto him.

"My hyung is running late, we'll wait a little," he said slowly and as clearly as he could under the noise.

The response came as a confused pause while Zitao processed before he nodded.

The twenty-year old Zitao tapped his foot under the table, what had Sehun just said to him? He didn't know. His brain couldn't seem to process anything without concentration and the constant noise made it difficult; but the random shouts of Korean punctured through what words had left Sehun's mouth and made it even harder. The nod seemed to satisfy Sehun, but that worried Zitao. Where were Sehun's hyung, and his hyung's friend? The fact that Sehun was back to making bored expressions and fiddling with his phone.gave Zitao no hint of what was waiting for him. He felt a sense of urgency; get joked on, watch Sehun laugh and go home.

Zitao mentally re-wrote the plan. Get joked on, watch Sehun laugh and go to Sehun's home.

The homsickness rolled through him like it always did when he realized he wasn't in China anymore. A word or moment pausing to acknowledge him in an uncomfortable manner. He attempted to shake it off, and it was easy done when one of the drunken men he'd seen earlier burst into singing a song. Zitao's eyes remained fixated on the man before he was nudged by Sehun once more, the blonde's attention wasn't on him though. It was the owners daughter, or so Sehun had explained to Tao, who came over the table a few moments after they'd sat down. Her attention was solely focused on Sehun, and Zitao could only feel his eyes linger on their lips as he strained to hear what they were saying.

Had Sehun wanted him to listen?

Girls were attracted to Sehun. Another thing Zitao had noticed in the two weeks he'd been in the country. Zitao had enough knowledge on girls to know that they liked Sehun for the exact reason he had first been attracted to him when he saw him in the airport. Sehun radiated this cold demeanour that made him stand out, his gaze locking others into this uneasy breathing pattern--foreign heartbeats--and then he'd break it with a smile, that seemed almost polar to the person he was two seconds before; unravelling everything and leaving the person to figure themselves out all over again. And then there was the epiphany as he spoke; 'he's never going to be mine'. A sharp puncture wound in the left lung that left Zitao winded within the five minutes of meeting the blonde Korean; oxygen leaving him in an almost knowing and taunting manner.

"Lu Han hyung!" Sehun greeted loudly and Zitao's eyes shot up to meet the gaze of two men who now stood over the table.

More strangers for Zitao to meet, and he couldn't help but realize the boy who responded to Sehun's greeting was attractive. Thoroughly. Even the male standing next to him who looked like his mind had not caught up with the situation was attractive. This delighted the owners daughter who hastily turned her attention to who Zitao could guess was Lu Han, if only by the incredulous look he was shooting Sehun.

"Hyung?" Lu Han didn't trust the use of that word from the younger boy at all.

Chapter 20: I'm guessing the young Joonmyeon was kidnapped together with one of childhood friends? Either Jongdae or Kyungsoo? I really want to know what exactly transpired between the latter and Joonmyeon to cause such enmity between them. So many questions... I started reading this to check out your other fics -after liking that kaisoo one which left me in tears and a broken heart-, and also in part because of the (chen)kaisoo tag. And I am, once again, impressed with your writing. However, I am left with frustration over Kaisoo. My heart goes to Kyungsoo //ok I'm partial to adorable freaky-eyed Kyungsoo if you don't already know// and I want to scream at him to get out of the toxic 'relationship' *if they could call it that* but I realize they're both using each other. I secretly hope though that despite Jong-In's commitment phobe tendencies and the hot-and-cold attitude, he does have feelings *however minute* for dear Kyungsoo. I like the way you tease (torture?) your readers by leaving tidbits and clues so we could form our own conjectures...until the next chapter, or the next, reveal itself. I wish I could drill a hole in your creative mind right now though to satiate this burning curiosity of mind. But violence do not become me. So I shall let you live. For now. Bruhahahaha. Ok. I fail at making fake threats. Anyway. Can't wait to read more soon!

Chapter 18: i love the intensity of this chapter, but especially this: "Slowly. Slowly. Pushing its sharp edge against the weaker skin, growing with pressure until it stuck through unexpectedly. Slowly. Slowly. Through every layer at speed that Chanyeol found he could never define as anything more than excruciating. It was almost a relief when it finally broke through, as if he could let himself inhale after holding his breath for too long." great stuff!!

this chapter explains a lot abt their relationship, although there are a few lingering questions still: i'm kind of confused why they don't TALK about their feelings esp when they seem to be mutual (although tbf if people communicated relationship problems wouldn't exist/95% of fic would be angst-less), and i don't get why baekhyun keeps pushing girls onto chanyeol when he knows chanyeol is gay... but hopefully these questions will be answered soon ;; keep writing!! i love the stuff you write (and ik i seem to have a one-track mind with the baekyeol but god i'm so into your kaichen, and the other stories too ;;)
