Chaper 12 - Save the Last Dance For Me

Screw This Thing Called Love

A/N: I'm backkkk~ Honestly, I kind of forgot about AFF which is why I haven't updated lately. I'll try to go back to updating more frequently. My arm is all good too btw WOOOT~ Here's a slightly long-ish(?) chapter for everyone who has been waiting. ^_^

SOOYOUNG’S POV

I untangle the last little knot in my hair and grab the black leather flats that practically claim that one little corner in my bedroom floor.

“SOOYOUNGGGGGG, OH HELL NO YOU’RE NOT!!!”

Jessica has one of those piercing screams that can make someone go deaf in an instant. I’ve been her roommate for probably a good year now and I’m still in awe at how she can make such a terrifying noise come out of for such a petite girl.

I need to stock up on ear plugs…that’s right, must write this down before I forget. I rummage through my little sling bag around my shoulder, but I can feel Jess’ glaring practically burn a hole in my head so I stop to hear what complaints she has with me now.

“What did I do wrong this time?”

“Everything! We’re all going to a club, why aren’t you wearing the proper outfit for the occasion? Hair, shoes, clothes, make-up….wrong, wrong, wrong…ALL WRONG!”

Before I can defend myself, she grabs me and shoves me down into a chair before she starts splashing something on my face, drawing things here and there on my eyes.

“!@#$%^&*”

A knock from the door calls from the hallway, causing Jessica to halt for a second. I can only stop and thank the heavens for a little while, but before I can even clear my mind to do so, Jess’ deafening high pitch voice blocks my thoughts.

“COME IN, IT’S OPENNN~”

“Did someone order the Hyuk-Su taxi services?!?”

Gotta love Eunhyuk and the corny weird things that often come out of his mouth…

“Shhh…idiot, they could be changing…we could have peeped at something.”

Then there was Junsu, the other half that was just as odd like the other.

“es, we hear you!”

“How much longer you gonna be?!”

They popped their heads into our room with their obviously disappointed faces after seeing us fully clothed from head to toe. Guys…you can never tame them and their raging hormones.

“Oh wait, never mind. It’s gonna be a while huh? I mean since…”

Eunhyuk starts to point at me…just what the hell is that suppose to mean?

Jeans, tank top, and flats….what exactly is wrong with that? That’s basically what these two dumb and dumber are sporting so what’s up with the double standard? Who said that girls need to wear short skirts and revealing shirts to a club? To top it off, they expect us to wear some six inch heels that make our feet deformed at the end of the night? God made me taller than the average girl because he knows for a fact that I cannot walk in stilettos for more than thirty minutes or something. Go ahead and quote me on that.

“Please help me~”

I stare at Jessica’s defeated facial expression in the mirror in front of me and I can’t help but feel like I’ve committed a crime. In this case a fashion crime I guess…and the verdict obviously pointed to me being guilty. Lock me up and throw away the key. At least this way, no one would have to be tortured.

The two overflowing with testosterone run away right after Jessica’s call for help from the helplessly clueless self that I am. I can’t help but smirk a tiny bit with the thought of winning this round. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll be able to leave with what I initially have on with the exception of the pound of make up that Jessica had thrown on me.

I gotta admit though, you can’t even see the pimples I’ve developed from my midnight snacking on chocolate for the past month.

Incredible.

Wait, no…why do girls need to hide their blemishes? Dammit, I’ll go rock the tiny bits of pimples that grace my forehead and cheeks anywhere I go. Screw it, I’ll be proud as hell of the fact that you can play connect the dots on my face.

I must have been dozing off thinking of the miracle of the pimples disappearing before my eyes since the next thing you know, Jessica has some kind of terminator machinery looking device in her hands. Keep still she says, but who the expects me to stay still when she wants to grab my eyelashes with that clamp thing? I may not care much about my appearance, but damn I refuse to leave this chair with no eyelashes on.

The small girl is practically strangling me in the chair, holding me straight as she places the metal thing close to my eyes. It’s literally done in a couple of seconds, but I felt like my life was going to end right then and there. , that thing is scary!!!

“Where’s your mascara?!”

“My mas- what?”

“Mas.car.a! The thing that curls your eyelashes and adds a bit of tint and lift. Oh my gosh, Sooyoung….aigooo T.T”

I hand her the small little tube case thing that I bought light years ago at some dollar store. The thing was a good $1.75 with taxes included when the make up store that Jessica seems to live in was selling those things at a deadly cost of $20. The brand is obviously different, but I figured that there wouldn’t be much difference. I don’t even know if I used the thing yet either…

“Are you serious right now Soo????? What kind of cheap little crappy nasty old is this?”

“Isn't that the mascara thing you were asking for?”

Wow, she looks like she’s gonna have a heart attack. I wonder if I should have 911 on standby just in case…

“I doubt this will do anything, but let’s see if it works even a tad bit. I’m practically sure this cheap isn’t waterproof either, so no over sweating, crying, or washing the face later on tonight…unless you want to look like a clown.”

10 long minutes later and we’re finally done with the make-up. I brought my tired self off the chair headed to the door before Jess starts throwing random outfits at me.

, forgot about the wardrobe. I think I just might die when this whole ‘Project: Makeover Sooyoung’ is done.

---------------------------------------------

I swear, I’m going to kill them all.

We arrive at the club as four, yet they don’t have the decency to wait for me. Excited little children running to the dance floor like it’s going to disappear if they went on it a couple of minutes late. I finally make my way to the dance floor, but why the is it so damn large? The distance between me and them are like continents away. I’m walking carefully like a penguin with these large heels on as people keep bumping into me left and right. I can’t help but apologize and keep my head down, since I know for a fact that I look like a fool.

Just when I think I gotten used to walking with these monsters on my feet, I wobble and crash into some tall thing. I swear my life flashed before my eyes and I’m holding onto something as if my life depended on it. Just when I realize that I’m still alive and kicking, I peek open and find out that I’m attaching myself to not just something, but it’s a guy. Dammit, and the dude is decent looking as well. Damn my luck.

I embarrassingly, jump out from his arms and brush myself clean. I’m so ing thankful at that moment that none of Jessica’s little dresses fitted me, but instead I just have a lace top with trousers on. Just like the rest, I keep my head down; not wanting to look more of an idiot than I do so.

“Sooyoung over here!”

I think that’s one of the rare times that I’m grateful for Eunhyuk and his random interruptions calling out for me in the middle of no where. I quickly scamper off towards his voice. I can’t help but look back at the guy for a split second as I run off.

“Mianhae.” I whisper out.

I must have hurt him quite a bit since he seems to be traumatized or something. He doesn’t seem like he can move an inch. Starting tomorrow, I promise to do 50 sit-ups before sleeping.

----------------------------------------------

I think I was only on the dance floor for two and a half songs before my feet were screaming at me with anger, begging me to go sit. As I walked towards a leather seat near the end of the club, I can’t help but feel some kind of warm breeze blow at me. It’s an odd feeling; since the place is blazing with air condition and no windows are open anywhere. I stop for a second and look around for something or someone. I don’t know why, but something is drawing near to me and I feel like I need to find them in return.

“Choi Sooyoung.”

It’s Yunho’s voice that snaps me out from the odd sensation. He’s sitting comfortably on the couch himself, practically drenched in small beads of sweat. I guess he’s been here for a while.

“Where’s Jaejo-“

“Over there.”

Like a twinkling star, he’s shinning brightly from everyone else. It’s such an odd feature of his, something that can rarely be done by just anyone.

I sigh a heavy sigh before plopping myself messily onto the couch.

“You look nice Sooyoung-ssi.”

In an instant, I fix myself straight up. , I forgot Yunho’s here for a second. Idiot. I hate it when he does that. Compliments you so suddenly, but before you can say something in return or even look up, he changes into some cool guy; acting like nothing ever happened at all.

We end up talking about just about anything and everything for a good few minutes before a tune starts to play, blasting its old school vibe through the speakers of the club.

“Wow, this is such an old song!”

“Mm. It’s my favourite song...no it was my favorite song”

Mt heart gets heavy at the first second. My eyes lighten up, yet a small amount of water starts to fill inside as well.

Why would they play such an old song?

Without a care in the world, why am I all of a sudden standing and walking towards the dance floor?

FLASHBACK

“I’ll pick you up at 7:30PM at the corner of the school.”

Changmin reminds his forgetful girlfriend for the nth time as he pecks her gently and sends her off to the bus. Waving happily through the bus windows, Sooyoung’s mind gets filled with her predictions of how wonderful the night will be.

It was 6:40 and she zipped up her red silk dress that hugged her every curve, outlining her long lines. As it draped down, she let out a long sigh. It was a few inches too long. She knew she was gambling on ordering a custom made dress for their high school dance, but she wanted to sparkle that extra bit in front of Changmin. Of course, Changmin would argue with her that she didn’t need to try so hard to shine, for she was the brightest star out there…but Sooyoung loved the thought of surprising him.

With just a few minutes to spare before they had to meet, she took off the dress and neatly wrapped it into a bag as she drove off to the nearest tailor. It was a rare moment that she drove.

You see, Sooyoung slightly feared driving. It wasn’t because she thought she was bad, but instead she was convinced that 97% of other drivers on the road were horrible. The fact was that it was the other way around. Sooyoung was a really cautious driver, a little too cautious…a trait she got from her childhood friend Micky. She’d whine about his granny style of driving, when she was no different.

That was Choi Sooyoung.

She tapped her feet impatiently on the floor as the tailor finished up the readjustments. Quickly, the tall girl ran off to her parent’s car and began to drive. The time was now 7:00 and she was no where near being done. She debated countless times whether or not to take the dreaded shortcut she always avoided, but decided that today was the time to face her fears.

One thing she was grateful for: there were basically zero cars on the road with her.

One thing she was not grateful for: the ungodly massive hill that was on the shortcut path surrounded by absolutely nothing.

She prayed a million little prayers as she carefully drove up the thing, but before she made it all the way, her car gave out on her. Gradually, it started to reverse. She was falling in the wrong direction. Backward, Sooyoung screamed in the freak show rollercoaster like ride she was stuck on.

Finally, with a loud *THUD* the nightmare came to an end. She opened her eyes and was clouded with the ashy smoke coming out from her car’s engine. She crashed straight on into the tall Burk tree at the bottom of the hill.

Above her head, the sky wasn’t looking to swell either, as it now took on the same shade of colour as the smoke. Dark, gray and basically UGLY, she felt a small drop fall onto her cheek.

“Oh please nooo~” She begged the heavens and began doing the sun dance, but of course nature had other plans.

Within a second, it started to pour buckets down onto her. She ran back into her parent’s car as if the convertible could keep her covered even a slight bit. Feeling defeated as her perfect night she dreamt of in her mind slowly began to disintegrate before her eyes; she answered her cell phone that continuously rang ever since the first raindrop that fell.

“Anyohaseyo?”

“Jagiya, you better be inside somewhere nice and dry from the rain. I’ll be right there in a bit so stay inside somewhere. Don’t be stubborn and stand outside even though you know you look good wet. Kekeke.”

“J-J-Just go without me~ I’ll be l-l-late.” She whimpered loudly through the phone as the rain ruthlessly continued to drop down on her.

“Just save the last dance for me~”She cried out.

Abruptly, her phone buzzed and automatically shut off; giving in to the storm. She was alone.

Wet. Sad. Disappointed. Cold.

Crawling into a small ball, she dug her head into her lap and cried in a cohesive manner with the rain.

Before she knew it, a pair of headlights shined down at her from the side of the road. She squinted her eyes at the direction of the blinding light and out stepped her hero. Changmin rushed towards her with an umbrella in his hand. He pulled her close to him and hugged her tightly. Quickly, he brushed on his suit jacket onto the shivering girl and kissed her gently.

“Babo~ I told you to stay somewhere dry.”

She slapped him playfully on the chest as she let out an embarrassed little giggle escape .

No matter what, it seemed like he was always able to find her if her tried. No matter where they were, if they wanted to find each other, they’d naturally attract to where the other one was like a pair of magnets that’s couldn’t resist the force.

“We’re probably late as hell already, so….would you give me the honour and dance with me right now?” Changmin smirked, the sides of his lips curled up as he offered her his hand and bowed politely at her.

Following along to her boyfriend’s cheekiness, she curtseyed in return and grabbed onto him. He pulled out a tape recorder from his pocket which was wrapped nicely in a plastic bag; it was the only thing he could find laying around at such a time like that. Placing one ear phone into Sooyoung’s ear and his own, he began to sway her left and right effortlessly.

“It isn’t supposed to be like this…I’m not wearing my dress, I’m wet, you’re wet, we’re in the middle of nowhere-“

“Didn’t I already tell you that you look good wet anyways? Pshh, and I know for a fact that I’m not bad looking myself when my hair is drenched either.”

They laughed together at the ridiculously odd situation they found themselves in and their ability to brush off all the imperfections that made the night perfect in their minds.

“Sooyoung, no matter what and where, as long as you are here with me, then that’s all that matters. Araso?”

“Mm.”

With the spotlight in the form of a pair of headlights and rain dripping down onto them, they shared a passionate kiss. Holding tightly against each other’s arms and music playing through a cassette player, it was a scene like that from a movie. But they both would argue that nothing would ever be comparable to that of theirs.

Romeo and Julliet? Bonnie and Clyde? Geum Jan Di and Goo Jun Pyo? Kim Joo Won and Gil Ra Im?

Pshhhh~ they'd both say that it's all about Shim Changmin & Choi Sooyoung.

That night, the stars peeked out through the cloudy dark strom skies a tad bit earlier than before.

That night, the dreaded shortcut was never one to be avoided by Sooyoung ever again.

It was no longer a place that was simply in the middle of no where, but instead found its way creating a special place in their relationship.

==================

While people upon the dance floor slowly started to part and stop dancing at the odd music now playing, Sooyoung found her way to the centre, standing still as she looked straight ahead.

Staring at him.

Up at the DJ’s booth stood Shim Changmin with his iPod placed into the speakers, much to the DJ’s strong oppose that took him forever to convince.

He spotted her in no time.

For the longest time, he always wanted to forget this little song.

He wanted to erase it from his iPod and his memories, but could never do so.

For the longest time, he’d often find himself wondering if ever she still remembered it the way he did.

That day, he found his answer.

Yes, she did.

A/N: since I've been seeing a lot of interesting thoughts with Vic's character in this, I will be changing my idea of how she was intitally going to be. BUT in order to do that, SORRY, but you're going to have to sit through a bit more of some unwanted scenes with her & a little someone...<.< MIANHAE~

Chapter 26: Kyu got Min's phone broken..... Ooooooh.
I also wonder what the message said cause it was obviously from Sooyoung, with her checking her phone. Victoria annoys me in some weird way, her crush on Min almost seems suffocating. Only time will tell when everything's ready to fall apart and everything's TOLD.
