Chapter 11 - Pictures of You

Screw This Thing Called Love

“My name is Song Qian, also known simply as Victoria.”

“Oh yes, that’s right…Victoria-ssi. This is Victoria.”

Kyuhyun let out a soft and somewhat odd chuckle to hide the fact that beforehand he had no clue what the girl’s name was. It didn’t take long for him to realize that despite his best efforts, the atmosphere was just too eerie for reasons unknown.

“Changmin, bro, are you alright?”

“Fine.”

His face was ghostly with cheeks freezing into a magnolia shade of white.

“Chincha?”

Standing still like a lump on a log, Kyuhyun gave a good smack onto his friend’s shoulder.

“My friend over here can sure be shy sometimes…ahaha…”

Bringing Changmin close into a brotherly light hug, he whispered,

“Dude, can you be a good wing man right now and at least just introduce yourself nicely? I’ll give you the new edition of Star Craft that just came out. Just do this one little favour okay?”

Changmin looked down at the piece of undergarment held within Kyuhyun’s hands.

Blushing a distinct tint of red, Victoria immediately grabbed her bra away from the man’s grip. Once again, an odd vibe took over the trio.

Frantically searching for a way out of this hole he dug himself in, Kyuhyun tried to explain the situation himself,

“Bras have always fascinated me.”

“…”

With all seriousness and a straight face, he the bottom of his chin as he continued on,

“…they have the ability to make things bigger, higher, and closer together…and it requires absolutely no surgery to do so…”

The two looked up at the disturbingly one of a kind interest of Kyuhyun’s.

“Oh my gosh, this is beyond embarrassing~”

Victoria wondered why the loud music couldn’t overpower the sound of their voices at that moment.

“Don’t worry, everyday Kyuhyun encounters bras. It’s no big deal.”

“…”

“What the- it’s not what it sounds like…”

Changmin pleaded as the thought of being a full blown bra collector or the sort sounded unbearably embarrassing.

“Ahahahahaha NOOOOOO~ my boy over here is a professional photographer. Advertising, Aerial, Architectural, Astronomical, Baby, Black and White, Cityscape, Commercial, Concert, Digital, Documentary, Equine, Fine art, Food, Fashion, Infrared, Landscape, Macro, etc. he literally does it all. He even shot some of those print outs for that Valerie Secret brand you girls love so much.”

“Victoria Secret…” Changmin mumbled as he corrected his friend.

“Wait…how about cooking?” Victoria immediately questioned, not even paying much attention to the photography part for the meantime.

“…”

“Don’t you work at that Japanese restaurant down on Nyangmun Street? The one that has rave reviews about how decadent the food is…”

“How did you even kno-”

“WASABI! That’s what it’s called!” Victoria cut him off as her eyes widened waiting for an answer.

Kyuhyun stood there not knowing one thing from another. It was as if the two before him were speaking another language that only he couldn’t  ing comprehend…lost in translation, he just stood there exchanging glances between them.

“I used to…I quit…”

There was an undeniable sense of sadness in his words. A sense of loneliness that made your heart ache in pain. Heavy with the thoughts of those times slowly creeping its way back into his memory, Changmin quickly brushed his eyes, wiping away the small watery tears that he could feel forming ever so slowly in the ducts of his lids.

Qucikly changing the subject, he persevered on through,

“Anyways, one thing led to another, and now the sound of the click of a camera and the flash of the lights gives me a sense of serenity.”

“Oh I see, well hmm…you always seemed to have a special spot reserved for photography anyways…”

Kyuhyun’s eyebrows slowly furrowed as they rose up in curiosity.

“Do you both know each other?!?”

Victoria’s head nodded shyly.

“Yes, in high school…we even had photography class together.

Did we really…?

No matter how much he tried, Changmin just couldn’t recall her. She indeed seemed familiar, but he questioned if he really was in the same class as her. For a small school in Jeju Island, they had a population too grand to provide lockers for each individual.

She must have been one of those nameless faces that passed by him in the crowded classes…

“You once said in a presentation that photography was truly one of the most beautiful creations known to mankind. Changmin-ssi, do you remember?”

FLASHBACK

“Shim Changmin, can you please come up and present your work?”

The young freshly dressed boy carried the large picture fame up to the front, barely being able to keep it up in his arms. With a proud expression painted across his face, he tugged away at the velvet siver cloth that covered his masterpiece.

“I simply call this Summer in my Heart All Year Long

Framed neatly was a collage of various pictures portraying 'summer' outlined in the shape of a heart. Ever picture was slightly different; whether it was a 45 degree change in camera angle, or different location...put together, the pictures flowed like the summer breeze in a grassy meadow field. Pastels contrasting along side the vibrant shots, it truly popped in any of its viewers’ eyes.

Pictures of a girl, effortlessly displaying her beauty within each frame – a smile, a wink, a profile…all pictures of the same exact girl.

------------------------------------------------

She sat laying softly against the trunk of the large willow tree on the school yard. Legs spread out and hair let down loosely flying with the slight gusts of wind, she pulled out the last of her homework as the sun slowly began to set.

Changmin crept slowly in front of her as she immersed herself into the math textbook she continuously troubled over understanding.

She cutely bit the back of her pencil nervously as she pouted cutely at what seemed like a never ending math problem. She tapped her sly fingers along the calculator, playing with its buttons until it would finally give a somewhat reasonable answer that she could accept.

Quickly, he captured all the moments as he brought out his camera towards her face.

She looked out at him shocked with enlarged pupils; only allowing for another opportunity for him to snap another shot. Honestly, every single second no matter what she did, she was picture perfect ready in his eyes.

“Yahhhhh! Changminniiieee stop that. You should be focusing on that presentation of yours for photography class instead of doing all this random stuff you pabo.”

“Wae? I need inspiration of some sort. Besides, cameras are meant to take beautiful pictures and it seems to agree with me that my Sooyoungie is the most beautiful to capture.”

“Chincha?”

Sooyoung shyly blushed as she then began to pose with random positions here and there. Having the ability to accommodate all her surroundings she used her setting to the best of her ability as she playfully posed with the trees, her back pack, pencils, and even the dreaded math textbook.

“Okay that’s good. Yes. Turn slightly this way. Lift your chin up a tad bit…”

“Oh, how about this?”

Sooyoung gave out a small chuckle as she shifted a little to the left and to the right, causing the illusion of her to be deformed, insulting the perfect proportions that Changmin knew very well that she had.

“Wait, no. What- Stop- Yahhh don’t make me come over there----“

“Mehroonnnnggg~”

Soooyung sang aloud while sticking her tongue out.

He couldn’t help but laugh along to her cheerfulness that always brightened his life up with a sense of warmth more so than a beaming sun on the hottest days. He carefully let go of his camera and placed it neatly on the pile of notebooks Sooyoung messily tossed about during her little 'photo shoot' she was enjoying.

Changmin chased her around the willow tree as the setting sun’s current shades of orange-reds hugged the sky up above. Their innocent laughter coincided nicely with one another’s like a beautiful tune.

Finally, he caught her warm arm in his as they lost balance and slipped down onto to the soft padding of the green grass. Looking at each other intently as their bodies left little gap in between the two's laughter began to trail off. They smiled sweetly while Changmin slowly brushed Sooyoung’s long swept bang away from her face.

Lightly, he kissed her upon her carnation pink lips.

“You know I love you right?”

He said as he brought her head over his arm as he hugged her tightly.

“Shut up and kiss me again.”

“...Bwohhh??”

It always surprised him by how controlling, hauty, demanding, yet adorable his girl was.

“Aish, just come here!”

Sooyoung tugged at her boyfriend’s collar shirt, bringing him close to her once more. With her spare hand, she pulled his camera and snapped one last picture to seal the day.

------------------------------------------------

“FAIL! That’s not summer!!!”

The bratty class delinquent near the back of the crowd shouted at the top of his lungs all the while snarling at the pathetic fail he believed that Changmin had showcased.

Letting go a confident laugh at his peer’s challenge, Changmin grabbed the Korean-English dictionary he knew would come in handy and whipped in across the classroom.

“Look up Sooyoung.”

“Bwoh?”

“This right here are pictures of my Sooyoung. The season of summer that only exists in my heart all year long. No matter how cold a breeze passes by, or how harsh the winter season comes about, Summer will forever bloom inside me, beside me…forever.”

In the middle of the collage of a heart, remained one picture that Changmin was shocked to see when he had them developed.

In the centre was a picture of the two, him and his Summer, engrossed in a kiss that resembled one that could win an award or two.

Their faces brilliantly falling over each others as the sun’s warm colours setting into the horizon in the background; it was a picture that would put a shame to Photoshop.

It was naturally beautiful in itself.

“I don’t know if any of you have ever had the same thought cross your minds, but photography is almost too perfect to be true; having the ability to capture some of the most precious moments and preserving them.”

Gently, Changmin brushed the centred picture with his fingertips.

“It is only recently that I finally had understood the saying --A picture is worth a million words.”

Slowly, a round of applause erupted from the once steady silent classroom as Changmin finished his presentation with a genuine smile.

It was that day when numerous male peers began to acknowledge the somewhat scrawny and nerdy Shim Changmin as a cool guy; although, they secretly slightly hated his guts for making so many girls’ hearts flutter.

Just how exactly were they going to follow in his act?

It was that day when a Chinese exchange student by the name of Song Qian, also known simply as Victoria, who was seated quietly in the back, decided that she wanted to remain in Korea after she graduated. Never before did her heart flutter like a butterfly as much when the tall lanky semi-permed hair kid gave his presentation.

Shim Changmin...she would always remember that name. She would always remember that smile of his.

====================

The words that once were so easy and so simple to say back then came flooding back into Changmin's mind. Was there really some strange odd connection between the photography that he was doing now with Choi Sooyoung?? He refused to believe any of that. After all, it was her that made him quit his job at Wasabl a good few years ago. It was just too hard to bare anymore during those days...no matter how much he enjoyed being a chef, no matter how many people proclaimed him to be the next big thing. He quit instantly after it was too hard to handle...

"PERFECCTTTTT ~" Kyuhyun chanted loudly, thankfully breaking that sad trance that his friend was in.

"I think this calls for a celebration then. Two old schoolmates meeting again. Why don't we capture this little moment of ours huh what do you all say about that?"

"..."

"uhhh..."

"Actually, well I don't quite care what you all say about that. We're taking a picture whether you both like it or not."

Loudly tapping the bar with his fingerstips, Kyuhyun slipped 5000 won towards the bartender.

"Mr.Bartender, my man, my guy that makes good martini on the rocks...hit me with three will ya? Here and do me a favor and snap a picture of us happy three over here...Changmin, give him your phone."

"Why mine?"

"I dunno, but just hand it over. My cheeks can't possibly hold this wide smile forever."

While Victoria and Kyuhyun reached forward and sipped on their drinks, Changmin took a moment to look at the picture that honestly, he personally didn't really think it'd call for a moment to capture. What was suppose to be a quick glimpse turned into something much longer.

At the very end of the picture, getting cut off was the summer that had come and gone in Changmin's heart...Choi Sooyoung.

At the discovery, he couldn't help but swing his head up to the direction which the picture indicated she would be, should be at.

...but nothing, she was no where to be seen, disappearing in the flash of the camera.

"Here bro, you're martini is screaming...drink meeee~" Kyuhyun smiled.

"She's here."

"Bwoh?"

"She's somewhere here."

Changmin began to shuffle his feet towards the area that Sooyoung should be near according to the picture. He doesn't know why the he's going there, but his feet continuously wants to head to that direction.

"Wait what? Are you sure you're alright? Who's here?" Kyuhyun grabbed his friend by the shoulder, bringing him to a stop.

"Let go." He replied sternly.

Obeying his wish, Kyuhyun watches his friend eagerly walking away headed to do who knows what as Kyuhyun takes turns sipping the two martinis that he was balancing in one hand.

"Oh well, I guess these two bad boys are mine now."

--------------------------------------------

A/N: Was this long? ehh I don't even know. I got kind of bored waiting in the hospital for a check up on my arm so yeah here's an update I did on my phone lol.

The whole Changmin cooking job may not be too clear right now (which it shouldn't really be), but it'll be explained later on...

I'm a tad bit lazy to reply to the comments right now, but I ♥ all of you that writes anything in that comment box lol

Chapter 26: Kyu got Min's phone broken..... Ooooooh.
I also wonder what the message said cause it was obviously from Sooyoung, with her checking her phone. Victoria annoys me in some weird way, her crush on Min almost seems suffocating. Only time will tell when everything's ready to fall apart and everything's TOLD.
