Everything is my fault
Jessica Jung just stares out at the sky while sitting on the bench. Her mind is in deep thought everytime when she looks up at the sky. Its been already a year since that day, she thought.
Soon after she was snapped back to reality when a dashing young man came, sitting beside her.
"You okay princess?" said the young man.
"Hmmmm?"
"You're staring at the sky again. I always get this weird feeling that I'm hating at the sky now"
"Sheesh. And what gives you those weird ideas?"
"Because it get stares more than I get from you."
"Please. Your cheesy lines are at it again, Kwon Jiyoung" she smiled
Yes the man's name is Kwon Jiyoung. Bethroded to Jessica a year ago when her parents and his parents arranged for their marriage. At first she was uneasy about having to marry a guy she hardly knew. But when she first saw him, he saw a charming young man with a smile that could melt anybody's heart. He was not only charming but smart and handsome too. And what is even more impressive is that instead of getting married right away, he just insisted that he court her first before marrying her.
He wanted to earn her love first.
And so after a year of dating and courting, here they find themselves in this beautiful day just outside of town.
"Here's your ice cream, just as you wanted" said Jiyoung
"Thanks, Ji" she smiled
Yet whenever she saw this, it still reminded her of him:
Flashback Two Years Ago
Jessica was waiting at a park. She keeps on looking at her watch and keeps a frown on her face. He is late....again. She thought. Soon after a man came sitting beside her, nonchalantly trying kiss to her. "Hi princess waited for long?"
Jessica suddenly pushed herself away from him. She was angry, very angry. "Princess whats the matter?" said the boy
"Hello, you are late Choi Seunghyun! What's your excuse this time?" said Jessica as she gave him her icy glare
"Princess, I'm only late about ten minutes. You know that I came from make-up class of Professor Lee." Seunghyun said
"Hello, try forty fives minutes"
"Aw come on its not that bad" said Seunghyun sheepishly
"Yah! You bingu!" Jessica hit Seunghyun with her bag "Because of you we missed another schedule of the movie that we were supposed to see a week ago! Now we have to wait another two hours for the next showing and I don't have the time because I have a paper to finish tonight!"
She turned her back on him as she was really angry. Suddenly Choi Seunghyun gave her a back hug. "Baby, I'm sorry" he said. "I promise we can still see the movie tomorrow. Let me make it up to you. Tell me what you like and I'll buy it right now."
"Anything?" said Jessica
"Anything for my princess"
"Then I want an Ice Cream!"
"No problem baby, let's just go to the Ice Cream shop across the street and I'll buy...."
"I want a Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream!"
Seunghyun was surprised "But Princess, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream can be bought in only one place and its on the other side of the university?"
"I want a Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream or I'm leaving Choi Seunghyun!" she started to walk away.
"Arasso, arasso. Give me fifteen minutes" said Seunghyun while he held on to her wrist
"You have five minutes!"
"Princess, that's a 10 minute walk!"
"Four minutes fifty eight seconds, Seunghyun"
Soon after the man known to all as TOP made a mad dash across the University like a Track and Field star. He was leaping, dodging and running like being chased by a pack of wolves. Jessica just smiled as she saw her boyfriend run as fast as he could. She always knew that her man will do anything for her. Soon after at exactly four minutes and fifty nine seconds he came back with a pint of ice cream.
He was a second late.
"Here's your ice cream princess" said a panting Seunghyun
"You're still late. Now you have to do something else"
"What now, princess" said a dejected Seunghyun
"Feed me." she pouted
"What? Jessica I'm just a second late..."
"Then goodbye to you..."
"Alright, alright"
Aissh what a brat thought Seunghyun
Soon he fed a spoonful of ice cream to Jessica. Spoon after spoon later, the ice cream was finished and Jessica was smiling. She is now happy. Seunghyun always wonder how simple things can make Jessica happy.
"Am I forgiven?"
"Hmmmmm. Maybe?" Jessica joked
"Jessica!!!!"
"Arasso. You're forgiven my baby." Jessica said as she hugged her boyfriend to calm him down. He returned it by hugging her and kissing her in the head. They just sat on the bench, still hugging at each other when Seunghyun spoke.
"Princess, do you ever look at the sky?"
"Why do you ask?"
"I always look at it to find peace of mind. It like someone is watching over us and gave us an assurance of tranquility."
"You think so?"
"I guess. I feel like angels are watching us and giving their blessings. What do you think?"
"Oh I don't know baby. They can stare all they want. I just want to look at you." she gave her famous pout
"Aissh. How come I fell in love with a cheesy brat like you" said a smiling Seunghyun
And after that they laughed and kissed each other.
Months passed and Jessica's relationship with Jiyong is beginning to mean more to her. He was gaining her love little by little. Yet all this time, Jessica still remembers her time with Seunghyun. Every night, everyday even with Jiyong, he still thinks about Seunghyun.
One day on a very special night after dinner, they find themselves in a park staring at the stars. Jiyong was sitting on a picnic blanket on a green hill while he has Jessica lying beside him with her head on his lap.
"The stars are pretty tonight" said Jiyong
"Hmmmm?" Jessica just questioned again
"Yah! Princess you always thinking of something else while I try to be romantic here? What's wrong with you?"
"I'm sorry baby, just got tired. Stress thats all" Jessica said
"I thought we agreed you should lay low on the college stuff till we get married."
"I know, Ji. It just that....ah never mind."
"Jessica, what is going on? Everytime I'm with you, you stare blankly at a lot of things."
"What do you mean?" Jessica said as she suddenly stood and started to wander away
"Do you love me?"
Jessica was just silent. She wanted to say that to. To him. But she couldn't.
"Arasso" Jiyong said in defeat "I'm sorry if I'm forcing you too much. Let's just go home and I'll see you tomorrow"
But all this time, Jessica's mind wanders again to the past.
Flashback
Final exams are finally over and soon the semester was about to end. After a stressful week, both Seunghyun and Jessica went to dinner that night. Soon they went to the park and set up a picnic blanket. They were all alone. She was lying down, looking up at the night sky. There was a full moon that night and the stars are shining brightly. Seunghyun was lying next to her. His head was on her chest while he hugged her tight.
What a baby. Jessica thought as she hugged her boyfriend while carresing his hair.
"The stars are beautiful tonight, baby."
"Hmmmm. Yup"
"Baby?"
No answer from Seunghyun. He just loves his position right now.
"Baby?!!!"
Still no answer.
"Yah! Choi Seunghyun!!!!" giving him a slap on the shoulder
"What?" Seunghyun was startled when he heard his full name.
"Can't you be romantic on a night like this?"
"Aisssh, princess I'm in the zone right now. You know how I missed you since we promised to concentrate on our final exams?"
Jessica just sigh in defeat "I missed you too baby. I just wanted to take advantage this night. Who knows what tomorrow may bring."
"Aissh, princess we got a lot of time in our hands. Trust me."
"I hope you're right."
Soon tomorrow came and Jiyong took Jesicca to this romantic restaurant downtown. Unlike yesterday, the skies are overcast and rain will soon follow. But that didn't stop Jiyong in what he is about to unveil. While still in the restaurant after they ate, Jiyong suddenly looked at Jessica with a sad look.
"Princess, I know we are bound to get married as deemed by our parents. But I wanted to court you and earn your love since I wanted to get married because we both wanted it."
"I know baby, but I just.....I......"
Suddenly, Jiyong knelt in front of Jessica.
"Do you want to marry me?" he suddenly blurted out while taking out a purple velvet box that contains a wedding ring.
Jessica just hang her head down. Soon tears were coming out of her eyes. She always wanted to say yes. Jiyong has done nothing but to love her and cherish her all this time. She wanted to love him but she can't. She then received another memory in her mind. Only this time a painful one.
Flashback:
/Mrs. Jung: Sooyeon-ah, it is time that you be back here in the States./
"But mom, I thought we agreed that I would finish my studies here in Seoul. I have two more semesters left."
/Mrs. Jung: Your father has deemed it neccessary to move on to the arranged marriage. You can finish your course after you get married. We have arrange it with the University President./
"But mom I'm not ready to get married...."
/Mrs. Jung: You will leave tomorrow. I've booked your flight for San Francisco. You better get on that plane to fulfill your obligations child./
"But mom, what about Seunghyun..."
/Mrs. Jung: Its better you break it off right now. Lest your father hears bout this. Grave consequences will arise if you defy your father now./
"But I....
/Mrs. Jung: I'll see you when you get back here/ (end call)
And then there was silence.
Jessica's heart is breaking into a milllion pieces. She wanted to run away. But she can't. Her love for her parents and her duty prevents her from doing it. What should I do, she thought. All day that was all she could think about.
That night he met with Seunghyun at his dormitory. She looked at him with sad eyes. He was still smiling when she entered but changed his expression when she saw her sad face.
"Princess?" Seunghyun asked
"I'm leaving tomorrow. I'm breaking up with you."
Seunghyun was perplexed but then he figured she wants something "Okay, what do you want this time. I already gave you ice cream the other day so maybe its...."
"I'm marrying somebody else, Seunghyun." she said to his face. Tears are now running down her face now.
"What?!!!" Seunghyun was surprised "What is this a joke? Jessica, I'm not in a mood for this."
"I received a call from my mother this morning. I'm going back to San Francisco first thing tomorrow morning. I'm to meet my husband to be." Jessica said
Seunghyun's face said it all. He was angry and surprised all rolled into one.
"I'm going with you." he said sternly "I will confront your parents and give them a piece of my mind"
He was desperate and angry. He is not losing Jessica this way.
"You can't and you won't. If my father finds out we are together there will be dire consequences. Not only to you but to your family as well. I know him, he is a ruthless man. I don't want anything to happen to you."
Jessica was now crying.
So is Seunghyun. His heart is aching. He wouldn't allow this. His mind is going crazy.
"Princess, please. There must be something we can do.....I.I can't allow this...please!"
Seunghyun is now crying his heart out. Jessica couldn't believe what she is doing to him. She was tearing him apart right there and it is tearing her apart too.
She wanted to walk away, but before she can, a now pleading Seunghyun was holding her. He was on his knees, crying like a child clinging to her leaving mother. She wanted to hug him. Then she let herself out of her grasp.
"Please..." he whimpered.
"Forget about me Choi Seunghyun." she wanted to run out. But seunghyun pulled a box cutter out of his bag. He was pointing it at his heart.
"You walk out of that door and I swear I stab myself with this! Do you hear me?!! All I did was just to love you, cherish you, worship you! You were everything to me! You leave now and I have no right to live anymore! DO YOU HEAR ME JUNG SOOYEON!!!!" he was now raving mad, his eyes are like something that will even scare demons away.
Jessica turned around. Streams of tears are flooding her eyes now. He was now facing him:
"If you do, then I suggest you stab my heart first!"
And with a loud shout Seunghyun began to lounge at her with the sharp cutter but came up short to her heart. His better senses stops him. He will not do this her.
He weakly let go of the cutter and was sprawling down on his knees. Sobbing uncontrollably.
Jessica can't stand it anymore. She ran away from the dorm. Crying. Wanted to die there and there. It was the worst day of her life.
As soon as that memory fade, she was crying her heart out in front of Jiyong. In front of many people in fact. Jiyong just hugged her and tried to soothe her.
Suddenly, Jessica just broke free from his hug and ran away from the restaurant. As if on cue, the skies began to pour down rain. She just ran and ran far away from him in the middle of the rain. With tears in her eyes she thought:
I'm sorry Ji. I wanna say I love you. But I can't........Sorry but I.....still love Choi Seunghyun.
(Author's note: A very sad, sad story. It ties in with the first Oneshot Songfic that I have made in this series of one-shots.
