Graduation

Can't Let You Go

Beep, beep. Yoona shot up from her pillow and hit the snooze button on her alarm clock. The sun shone brightly in her room through her large translucent, blue window. She threw two arms in the air stretching and got out of bed, yawning, and heading to her bathroom. She blocked all thoughts and memories of last night out of her head. She wouldn't let anything ruin today. Today's the day.

After cleaning up, she happily put on her graduation dress that Sunny, her best friend, had gotten her. It was a slightly above the knee colorful, floral print dress. Yoona favored the dress. Sunny knows her
so well.

She brushed her hair and applied her lip gloss on. She also put on a teeny bit of makeup on. Although, she hated wearing it.

She stared at her reflection in the mirror. Im Yoona, the girl who is now all grown up. The girl who is now free, free to do whatever she pleased. She smiled thinking of herself beginning a new journey and taking baby steps until she was at the top. This is the beginning of her life, her own life.

"There's our graduate!" Yoona's mom spoke snapping pictures of Yoona as she came down the stairs.

"Mom," Yoona complained. Her mom was always like this. Taking pictures for everything.

"What? Honey, this is something to celebrate! My daughter, the valedictorian of her graduating class," her mom stated and took one more picture. Yoona couldn't help but to smile.

"Yoona!" her dad called and came over handing her a bocay of roses. "My little girl is growing up." Yoona took the flowers, "Appa, thank you and don't worry. I'm still your little girl, just a bit more mature."

Her father chuckled, "Well, I just want you to know how proud your mother and I are of you. You worked so hard your entire life. Now, you're all grown up aren't you? Well, honey, it's a big world out there, but whenever you feel like coming home for a visit, just know we'll be waiting for you."  He kissed her head and gave her a hug.

Her mom awed and took another picture.

"Okay then, let's go," her father broadly said and lead Yoona and her mother to the car.

Although the car ride was short, it felt so long for Yoona who stared out the window the entire ride. She observed the playground and adored the cute children playing. She stared at that one particular little
girl on the slide. "That use to be me," Yoona thought flash-backing to her childhood. "That little girl grew up. I'm really going to miss it here," Yoona thought.

As the car came upon Yoona's decorated high school, all of Yoona's classmates and friends smiled and waved at their class' valedictorian. She opened the car door and rushed out to hug her friends Taeyeon and Jessica. She really was going to miss everyone and everything here.

"Yoona! Oh my gosh! I can't believe it! We're ACTUALLY graduating!" Taeyeon excitedly spoke still hugging Yoona. "Thank god," Jessica said, "High school is a handful."

Yoona laughed, "I'm going to miss you guys so much!"

Just then, a cheap looking black car pulled up at the front of the school. The door swung open, inside was a hot-looking boy wearing ripped jeans, a T-shirt, and worn-out sneakers. He stepped out and stared deeply at Yoona.

Yoona looked back at the boy's face. She knew that face anywhere. Jaehyo. She tried to avoid his gaze even though all she wanted was to fall back into his arms. No, she couldn't... She couldn't get over what
he did. She couldn't get over that night. She just couldn't.

"Yoona!" her mother called, "Come over here and I'll take a picture of you and your friends!" "Coming mom!" Yoona called back motioning her friends to follow her.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Okay, 1...2...3!" her mom said and took a picture of Yoona, Jessica, and Taeyeon. Yoona looked back at Jaehyo and his mom, his gaze followed back to Yoona's. She quickly turned her head back to her mom but took one more look at him from the corner of her eye. “I miss you Jaehyo,” she thought.
Later, everyone changed to blazing blue cap and gowns. The studentswere all lead to the auditorium and were seated. After everyone was calm and settled, the valedictorian, Yoona, was called up to the podium for her speech.
Everyone applauded at the bright, beautiful girl coming towards the podium. Yoona's heart speeded and her heads started sweating. Holding out her index cards, she began her speech...
"When we were born, in each and everyone one of us had a special gift inside. Our parents sent us through 13 years worth of school mainly to discover what was really inside. In those 13 years, however, we discovered many things we did not know would come up. There are more events to come, however. Our teachers and parents were there to help us prepare, guide, and support us through the steps of making it. We are all humans, making mistakes now and then but come to forgive ourselves as we move on. And life goes on. So in the future, when you're out there, all alone in this gigantic, but fascinating world, you remember that your future is bright. And happiness and hope are yet to come. Thank you."
The audience applauded at the valedictorian's inspiring speech. Even Jaehyo. He couldn't keep his eyes off Yoona. Her speech was miraculously inspiring. "Yoona-ah," he thought staring at her gorgeous smile.
"Now for our graduating class," their principal announced calling the names. "Ahn, Jaehyo," he called and Jaehyo immediately stood up. Faking a smile, he came up receiving his diploma. Yoona noticed his bright smile and clapped along with everyone else. "Well done Jaehyo," she thought.
After a series of more and more students being called, it was Yoona's turn. She instantly stood and walked to receive her diploma. She gave a light smile that only made Jaehyo's heart drop.
"I miss her. And her smile," Jaehyo thought. He sat there with his head lowered staring at the dog tag Yoona had gotten him for his birthday. He gripped it tight and looked up at Yoona. "Yoona," he thought and heavily sighed.
After more and more names were called, the principal finally said, "And that concludes our graduating class." The crowd clapped and cheered. Yoona smiled and started clapping. Jaehyo noticed that, his
face instantly fell. He thought about how Yoona use to smile like that around him, but not anymore. Jessica curiously eyed him. She couldn't help but to wonder why he's down at this moment. She caught him staring at Yoona and the dog tag she had gotten him immediately knew why. "He really does feel bad," she thought.
