Foreword
KIMJONGIN
I’m Jongin, Kim Jongin. When I was five years old, I witnessed my parents’ death. They were killed right in front of me, right before my eyes. It was tragic; I lost the two people I looked up to the most. My uncle raised me from then, training me to be strong. He told me to “Never forget what you’re capable of”.
I’m eighteen years old now and I live to avenge the death of my parents.
It happened when I was five, it was a normal day. I didn’t think saying ‘good night’ was the last thing my parents would ever hear from me. It happened at midnight, when I heard the horrid screams coming from my mother and my father’s loud booming voice fill the house. I heard glass shatter on the floor, tables being flipped and my mother’s expensive China collection fall off the shelf. I was only five back then, I grabbed my teddy bear and wondered out into the hallway just to see a bunch of men in black holding guns. The guns themselves were almost bigger than me. I stood in the hallway and watched. I was scared but I didn’t know what would happen. Bullets were everywhere; the man in the black swat suit was shooting at someone. I remember my body tensing up when I saw my mother fall face flat on the floor motionless, lifeless, and dead. One of the men noticed me. “The boy!” He said. My father ran towards me, it was out of luck that I didn’t get killed. I watched the bullets shoot thorough my father, the last bullet shoot thorough my father’s head before he fell down in front of me. A puddle of blood gushed out of him; I dropped my teddy bear and reached for him. “D-Daddy?” The men grabbed their weapons and made a run for it. It took me a few minutes to realize that they were dead. I stumbled over to my mother, I was terrified, there was blood everywhere and she was holding a picture. A picture of us together. I took it out of her hands and wiped the blood off of it before crying myself asleep in the middle of the living room.
I still have nightmares of it up until today, I’m eighteen years old, it’s already been thirteen years and I still haven’t accepted the fact that my parents are dead. I’ve spent thirteen years with my uncle who raised me well. He took me in after the night of my parent’s funeral. We moved to Thailand and lived there. He trained me to be a strong fighter. He tells me it’s my job to avenge my parents because I’m one of the few left in the Kim family who are mentally and physically able to. After training me for such a long time, he’s sending me to Korea. Seoul, Korea; where I will find the man behind the murder. He tells me to look after a girl. “She’s important to me.” He tells me.
I ask him. “Who is she?”
Uncle takes out a photo and I see her. “Her name’s Minah. Minah Kwon. You better look after her for me okay? Promise me you’ll return to Thailand healthy after you complete this mission.”
I look at her, Minah; she’s beautiful and has a great smile. “Is she your daughter?”
He chuckles and shakes his head. “Oh heavens no! She’s just important to me.”
I put the picture in my wallet and keep in mind that Minah is one of my priorities when I get to Seoul.
He sends me to the airport and tells me one thing before I board the airplane. “Jongin, there will be obstacles in Seoul. You’ll have to avoid them to get through them, focus on finding the men who kill your parents. Remember, don’t fall in love.”
Little did Jongin know, out of all the obstacles out there, love would be the only one he can’t pass.
