Jinki I know was brave enough, even though he seems really calm and everything. His delicate smile is the reason I fell in love with him in the first place. Well, I can imagine how his eye smile can help him to get his status as favorite teacher of the year in the elementary school where he works.

When I met him for the first time, it was when I fell on the steps at train station and he happened to be the one who helped me. He even didn’t hesitate to support me to walk and treated my injured bleeding knee like I was one of his students he needs to take care of.

And then so I found out that this guy I married is a tough man, no matter how he always seems happy and cheer up. There’s only one moment I saw him to shed a tear, not when his father died, no, but that’s when little Yoomi was born.

He dote our daughter so much, and maybe because I understand that, I could never forget one particular small incident that occurred that day. No matter how weird –but cute it may sound.

I was just walking into the house when I heard sobs. So I ran to find my baby, and yet she’s sitting on the floor playing with her doll peacefully.

She looked up to me, and my 3 years old Yoomi runs to me, “Umma, look, paper cut my finger, Appa heals me.” She said with a broken language, showing me her index finger that wrapped with a bandage. I was frowning, and so I took her in my arms.

So.. Who’s crying just now?

I looked at my daughter’s face and her narrow brown eyes –that looks exactly like her father’s, staring at me with a questioning look.

But before I could say anything, I saw him. Sitting, no, rather curling in one corner of the room, and asking out of forgiveness, “Yoomi-ah, Mianhe.” And right after that, he wiped his tears with the back of his hand.

“Omo.” I said as then I walk to him, “Jinki-ah?”

He looked surprise to see me, definitely looks like a lost child and he said, “What to do, t-there’s.. blood in my baby d-darling’s finger.”

I frowned again, and ask Yoomi, “Didn’t Appa the one who helps you to put the bandage and stuff?”

Yoomi nods, “But after that.. Appa cry. Im not. Yoomi a good girl, right, Umma?”

Jinki stood up, his eyes still a bit in daze he says to me, “I-i washed her small hands, and.. and then I gave the antiseptic, I’m still okay. She’s-she’s smiling too, but then..” He shook his head in deep regret.

I want to laugh and say that it’s just a small cut, but then he said again, “Better it’s me than her, Yeobo.”

I rubbed his back slowly, thinking that I could never really guess what’s on Jinki’s mind. Even after all of this time, he surely never failed on give me surprises about himself. And then Yoomi said of us, “Appa white after he see red.”

White? Red? As then I saw Yoomi pointed to her father’s face.

Oh she means he went pale because of the blood? Well, that’s new. And she must notice Jinki’s expression too.

“Appa.. scared?” Yoomi said again, as Jinki looked at her, while she continues, “Yoomi cry, scared when there’s boom-boom.” Boom-boom is how she called the thunder.

Jinki took Yoomi from my arms and the latter said, “Appa don’t scared, Umma here. Yoomi here. Stop cry, Appa. Look, red gone.” While she’s showing her finger covered with bandage to him.

And so this father and daughter hugs each other while Jinki cries again, followed by Yoomi too.
I ended up embracing them in my arms to calm them down. What a dramatic father and daughter.
But then again, as an amused smile appear in my face, thinking that I’d never be boring and being forever happy to have them in my life.

My cute innocent Yoomi, and my unpredictable caring Jinki.
