Prologue 7: Xiumin
EXO Hunger GamesI'm Kim Minseok of District 7. Our district exports lumber, and also falls into the hands of the Capitol's inevitable Hunger Games reaping.
I remember watching the Games years ago, where twenty-four boys and girls killed one another in a forest-like arena. The gore wouldn't be censored. It was live television, so you could see everything that happened. The craziest and most graphic deaths would unfold before your very eyes. Tributes would take even dull knives and senselessly stab the enemy, countless times, until the killer himself was happily drenched in his victim's blood. Others would force poisonous plants down an enemy's throat while they slept, to kill them silently. Sometimes the tributes would even fight with their fists until one of them dies.
The images are horrific, they really are. But it's best to watch the Games whenever possible, since, after all, the same situation could happen to you.
I grimly watched the television screen as the Capitol broadcasted re-runs of previous deaths that occured in the last few Games. And it was only a matter of time until I myself had to leave for the reaping. My attention snapped back into focus when I heard Panem's national anthem playing through my television and the artificially-sounding, bright voice of Caesar Flickerman saying to me through the screen:
"Happy Hunger Games, and may the odds be ever in your favor."
I shuddered.
"Minseok?" I heard my father call from upstairs.
"Yes, Father?" I answered. I heard my father's footsteps get eerily louder until I felt him standing behind me. I did not turn around.
"It's time to leave, Minseok."
