My name is Kim Jongdae. I reside in District 11, the district of agriculture. As a whole district, I think we do quite a bit. But we're still dirt poor, however, we're not as poor as District 12. Today is the day our district gets to go through the Capitol's reaping process for the annual Hunger Games. And I had heard they compromised the rules. One boy for each district. It means only twelve people will be in the arena... I had my mind on the Games while I was changing into what looked like nice enough clothing for the reaping.

 "Mother," I said as I went downstairs to find the right clothes, "I'm gonna stick out again."

  The majority of District 11 consists of darker-skinned people, and my whole family sticks out like a sore thumb! We're all fair-skinned, and it gives us more than enough teasing and insults than we can handle.

 "Jongdae," my mother replied softly. "Don't worry. Even though you are the only one in your age group who is fair-skinned, you should know that...

  ...it's only a small chance that the fair-skinned boy will be chosen this year."
