Ch 1: July 5, 2013
That Summer's DayThe dry July wind circles around Kai as he makes his way towards a familiar face. The thought of being back home in Jeju makes him uncomfortable but he knows he cannot show how vulnerable he is in front of Sehun. As he walks slowly, the sound of the gravel rubbing on his shoes relaxes the tension building up inside of him, almost like rough lullaby. He wipes the sweat from his hands and hugs his old friend just like the old days. Sehun breaks the silence with a laugh.
“Haha, you haven’t changed at all, you’re still dark as always!” Sehun teases.
“Still sporting a bowl cut after five years huh?” Kai interjects with a smile.
The two pat each other’s back as they make their way towards the red car parked across the airport. Kai rubs his nose with his hand, feeling a bit sick from the strong scent of orange from the car’s air freshener. He relaxes in his seat and turns the radio on.
He heaves a sigh looking at his hometown, feeling a sense of nostalgia. Over there is the place where he used to ride his bike and over there was the fully grown jujube tree which his elementary class planted 10 years back. Kai bites his lower lip, feeling a bit anxious and lowers the car window down to let some air in. Sehun notices Kai's fidgety hands which troubles him. He swerves his car next to an embankment and takes the keys out of the ignition. Sehun curls his hands on the wheels and sighs deeply. He glances at Kai reluctantly and clears his throat to grab his attention.
“Uhm… You know today is that day right?” Sehun asks with hesitation, a little bit regretful for asking.
Silence filled the car as Kai remains nonchalant and unresponsive, ignoring any sound being emitted in his surroundings.
He closes his eyes slowly, exhausted yet aware.
He remembers.
He perfectly remembers.
