It was just like him – Appearing plain, yet able to catch attention effortlessly. It was beautiful. Really, it was, which made you wonder more why the stoic captain of the third squad had such a thing. And for some baffling reason, it always seemed to stay white too.

Back before the change over to the western style clothes, the violet haired man was never seen without the garment. She supposed it suited him well - With his mysterious ways and all that. Even now, Saito still had the pure white scarf softened by the excessive wearing. She had noticed it every time she had been to his quarters to drop off laundry or a meal he often forgot to eat; it was draped carefully, solely taking up a full kimono hanger for some time now.

She just wanted to have a look at it close up without having to make such a weird request to him in person. So that day, she did go to his room, and she did take it off the hanger to admire it up close.

But...

Someone even worse that Saito suddenly barged into the room just as she placed the trademark scarf around her neck. Shoulders hunched up and eyes bulging in panic, all Kagura could do was shake her hands in defence, but that only seemed to make the man at the door laugh harder. “Okita San, please don’t tell him. I only wanted to look-”

Okita had managed to catch his breath and was now standing with his hands on his hips giving a serious look. “I won’t tell him...” A wicked smirk morphed on his lips. “Pass it here.” He held his hand out expectantly.

Kagura’s expression turned sceptical. “Why?” She unknowingly pulled the cloth to her chest and turned away slightly, setting the man off laughing again.

“Just pass it-”

“I don’t think we should...”

Now both the second squad captain and the newest addition to Kondō Isami’s family had a grip on Saito’s precious scarf. The forces of either’s pull growing by the second in a fight – not just for the white linen – But somehow, it had turned into a contest concerning their pride. Kagura stepped in to gain some leverage and Okita followed suit, closing the gap completely, just to make her flustered.

“I can play like that too.” The superior leant in to tease.

Stubbornness being a dominant trait, Kagura tightened her grip. “Please-”

“What are you two doing in here?”

Okita looked over his shoulder casually as Kagura jumped back in fright at the familiar voice. Inevitably…

-Rip-

The two trespassers gawped at the separated, frayed cloth in their hands, and then to the owner of the once-whole scarf.

“Get out...” Was all Saito said as he sharply side-stepped to the side of his bedroom door: Obviously a sign for them to hurry the Hell up. Holding a hand out to collect the two halves of his possession, Kagura could have sworn she saw a vein throbbing in his neck and his eyebrow twitching.

She supposed that those barely visible actions were as close to angry as she was going to see Saito. For that, she was glad, for she had never been so scared of what ‘could have been imagination’ in her entire life.
