…Looked in the face of death?

Have you ever…

…Looked in the face of death and laughed?

Do you drift through life wondering what the point is, or do you live every waking hour trying to live life to the fullest? Could you put yourself in harm’s way for the sake of something important to you?

When Shizuo was taking in the air that seemed so hard to come by as he sat propped against a wall all by himself, he couldn’t help but spare a chuckle for the emotion plaguing him. The blood gushing from the wound on the left side of his stomach didn’t give him much time to regret what he had or hadn’t done in his short life, but it wasn’t really much of a problem. Even with his vision blurring, Shizuo didn’t panic. Did he really have nothing he wanted to live for? Was there no one he wanted to see one last time before he faded away into nothingness?

“Are you going to sit there all day?”

Shizuo raised his heavy head and tried to focus on whoever was interrupting his death. Although everything had already turned into on big blotch of fuzzy colour, the trembling male could tell who…No, what annoyance was speaking to him. “So much for dying in peace.” The grumble caused the other boy to smirk. “I’ll kill you.”

Prancing in front of the slumping blonde, Izaya waved his trusty flick-blade. “You think I’ll let you die so pitifully? Hell, I’m surprised you’re being so dramatic by saying you’re going to die from that scratch.”

The injured man fumbled numbly for his cigarettes. “Maybe I’m already dead and in Hell. You’re here after all.”

“I won’t let you die so easily.” Izaya crouched down closer to become eyelevel with his new toy, but not close enough as to be attacked with whatever strength the bastard bartender secretly had left.

Have you ever…

…Laughed in the face of death only to have an enemy save you in your last minutes?

Shizuo has. And - as if he hasn’t got enough to deal with already - he’ll contemplate the meaning of it until the day he really dies.

Let’s hope Shizuo never finds out the reason for his sworn enemy saving him was a well thought out plan for the sake of brunet’s eternal meddling in peoples personal affairs, or else it may just be Izaya laying in a puddle of blood at the blond’s mercy.
