Sungmin sighed as he watched his ex-lover dance across the crowd with some stranger. It was New Year’s night, the ball would drop in one hour, but his date had already left him.

They finished their drinks before heading to the dance floor, their movements swift as he gracefully led Sungmin around the room filled with their peers. Sungmin couldn’t register any stares, instead all he could see or feel was his new date. He could only vaguely notice how his date was avoiding Yesung and Kyuhyun.

The tears threatened to fall as Sungmin hid his face in his partners shoulder, feeling how the younger man held him closer as they danced to a slow song. The song had ended and now the start of the New Year’s countdown began. They all froze simultaneously counting down the start of their New Year. Sungmin’s hand clasped harder against the man’s hand in fear. Who would he share his New Year’s kiss with? Could he give it to this stranger who had come to his rescue? The countdown neared its end as voices began getting higher and more anxious. Sungmin could see the joy and hear the excitement in his partners voice. The clock struck twelve and cheers were heard throughout the room, but Sungmin didn’t care. His lips were busy with Ryeowook’s, the stranger holding him so securely in his hold. The man pulled away admitting to watching him the whole time, being their when Yesung had left him. Always in the sidelines waiting and watching. Always loving him and hurting when he did. Sungmin smiled returning the kiss. He could survive this year, because he had found someone special.
