The note

The woman in the shack

The very next day, the woman got up out of the rocking chair she seemed to always be in, and limped over to the basket that was laid on the floor next to the kitchen sink. She picked up the basket, gently laying it on the light wooden table that was placed in the very center of the small kitchen room, and inspected it more carefully then she had done the other morning. She pulled out the quilt that had clearly been handmade, and put it on the table. The quilt was a mixture of a soothing baby blue and a cute baby pink, with small patches and long stiches going around the patches. ‘The person who made this must have not known if it was a boy or girl.’ The old woman chuckled to herself as she thought of that. She turned back to the basket and noticed a small piece of paper. The words written on it were slightly smudged from when it had gotten wet, but it was still visible and with fine writing read-

‘’Dear Rosa,

I have bestowed upon you the life of my daughter. I have again failed you and would like for you to please take care of the little girl, if not for me but for her. She has the ability to do great things, and I hope you could also see that. I might not ever see her again, but I don’t think I could anyway…

You were right about everything, but I never listened, and am now wanted dead…. All because of the one thing you told me never to do… Fall in-love.

I want you to make sure that she does not do the same.

Please watch over her and make sure no harm comes to her.

Sincerely: Your daughter.’’

Rosa read the letter with teary eyes, and stayed there, standing, reading the letter over and over again. It had been the first time in years that she had heard from her one and only daughter, and she felt sadness but not regret. She had told her daughter never to fall in-love, because as she says, it only leads to a life of pain. Rosa had lost her love when she was young with a child, he had left her for so unknown reason, and she was scared that her daughter would do the same. Turns out her daughter had done the one thing instructed not to do. Rosa grunted and wiped the forming tears away, and stuffed the note into her pocket. Placing the basket down under the table, she again limped over to the small bedroom the child was still sleeping in, and though for a brief second. She smiled and looked down at the baby in her bed.’’ I shall call you….’’ She paused, thinking for a name that would suit the small girl. ‘’Ahh. I shall call you TaeHee.’’ A grin appeared on Rosa’s face as she said that name. ‘TaeHee’ She would repeat in her mind over and over until she fell asleep next to…Taehee.
