Of scribbles and Ice Cream- I’ll keep you safe

Baekhyun sighed as he sat in his room; the others had gone down to breakfast

Why was his element… So pointless?

Baekhyun trudged downstairs glumly

In fact Baekhyun saw the world differently to all the rest of them

He could see everything

His eyes were made to see everything- he could see all spectrums

The infrared and the ultraviolet

He saw the world with new eyes

The best eyes

He knew that there were far more colours than you could ever imagine.

Yet he felt useless- His power was useless in his eyes

Couldn’t fly like Kris- Couldn’t heal like Lay

He could only manipulate light particles and send holograms

He could create photos on paper.

But that was nothing compared to Luhan’s mind reading- was it?

“Good morning Baekkie!” Sehun called from his seat- my he’d grown even taller- Maturity coming closer every minute

Baekhyun was nowhere near that tall

“Morning Sehun” Baekhyun mumbled back sitting at his place on the long table while servants attended to him immediately, he waved his hand in protest “Please- go have some breakfast- take a break” Baekhyun smiled up at the man who was currently tucking in his napkin.

Luhan carefully put some eggs and toast on Baekhyun’s plate- with his element of course

Suho poured him some juice as he smiled

“I just made it this morning!” He said proudly “It’s raspberry and apple today”

“Thanks hyung”

Lay tilted his head… Baekhyun’s aura seemed kind of… off today- where was his happy brother?

“Baekhyun- Ah… Are you okay?”

“Actually… I don’t feel well… I might not attend classes today if that’s okay”

Lay gave a sympathetic look “Hmm your readings seem normal… But your aura is definitely off- I’ll notify your tutor”

“Speaking of tutors… They’re useless” Kai whined munching on some toast slathered with peanut butter Kris had blended this morning

“Kai- don’t say that” Kris said seriously

“How are they supposed to teach us?” Kai retorted “It’s not like they’ve actually experienced this”

“It’s all we have” Suho said softly and apologetically

Chanyeol turned to Baekhyun

“Hyung- Are you sure you don’t want to come today? The monks are teaching us how to make food from the old world!”

What about food from today? Isn’t it just the same? Why are we kept in the dark?

“No I think I’m just going to sleep” Baekhyun muttered pushing away his plate and dashing upstairs eyes b with tears

Why was he so worthless?

Chanyeol blinked hurt that his friend, his brother had been acting that way towards him.

“Don’t worry Chan” Luhan said smiling “He’s just having a bad day” Of course why’d Luhan have to be the one with telekinesis “You should go visit him later, when he’s in a better mood”

Classes went by slowly that day- he spent all morning practicing his fire bending, needless to say that was boring- he hadn’t learned a new skill in weeks.

Maybe he should just take the scrolls and teach himself

Zhoumi hadn’t even showed his face today

That was kind of odd

By now he would have at least criticised his outfit

After cooking class- where they learned to make a dish called patbingsoo a dish from a country formerly named Korea

Korea was situated exactly where Sinseonghan was along with a country that was called China.

It was like an ice cream sundae or shaved ice- with heaps of other stuff added

Chanyeol crept up the stairs into his and Baekhyun’s shared room hoping to find him there; he wanted to share his creation with his short loveable friend.

“Baekkie?”

No answer

Chanyeol pushed the door open to see the window pushed open and a scribbled note on his dresser

If you need me- I’m up on the roof

Aish- that guy really does make it hard for me doesn’t he Chanyeol thought as he carefully held his bowl in one hand and holding onto the window frame with the other

Dammit I really wish I was Luhan right now- Or Kris- Kris would be good too.

But nope he was Park Chanyeol and he was the fire element

No such luck.

Carefully maneuvering onto the roof he called out once again

“Baekkie?”

“Hmm? Who is it?”

Chanyeol heard sobs between the words

“It’s Chanyeol, what’s wrong Baekkie?”

“Yeollie… Am I useless?”

Chanyeol’s eyes opened wide- how could Baekhyun even think that?

“No! Who put that into your head!”

“I did…”

“Well you’re not useless- you’re amazing and you’re my brother and friend”

“It’s just… everyone has different amazing abilities… Mine… has no use- it’s useless”

“Not true”

“How?”

“You light up the world Baekhyun”

“I’m being serious Channie”

“Okay, well you’re our biggest tool in means of communication- except Kai but who trusts him to do anything right”

“I guess” Baekhyun mumbled under his breath

Chanyeol sighed exasperatedly “Look here!” Chanyeol the big bowl of shaved ice and ice cream into Baekhyun’s face “I thought you’d like some”

“What is it?”

“A Korean? Yeah a Korean dish called Patbingsoo, it’s yummy!”

“Did Xiumin make the icecream?” Baekhyun asked as Chanyeol handed him a spoon

“Yeah! I choose Chocolate and Strawberry flavors- this also has peanuts- berries- and adzuki beans? Oh and jelly!”

“Wow…”

“I like busy okay”

So they spent the afternoon eating and laughing- Chanyeol really did know how to cheer up his best friend

It was twilight now- the stars were emerging in the purple sky

“Thank You Channie” Baekhyun beamed at his best friend

“Naw I just wanted to make you feel better”

“Well you did”

Chanyeol looked into Baekhyun’s eyes for a moment- he often wondered what Baekhyun saw that he could not.

“Baekkie- I just want you to know, we all care about you- me especially and you’re the world to us, I know us being roommates is a bit weird since we both are like a nightlight” Chanyeol saw Baekhyun starting to emit a soft white light “But you’re everything to me, I care about you so much, so don’t ever think you’re useless- cause you light up the world Byun Baek- and I want to make sure you keep on doing that. I’ll keep you safe”

Meanwhile

“Shhh Sehunnie! Hyung is trying to watch!” Luhan shushed his baby brother

“Watch what?”

“Baekhyun and Chanyeol Hyung!”

“Why?”

“Shh!”

He saw them laughing and holding hands- although he had insight- he could feel the radiating love between them- that would ultimately result in a relationship

There was one problem though- Sehun and himself

He couldn’t read Sehun’s future- he never could- just like he can’t read his own.

Sometimes he thought it was better that way- He’d probably try change the outcome of Sehun’s future- make sure he would never fall in love

Which was incredibly selfish.

But he just couldn’t

Sehun was his baby- his only

Or was it just that?

Luhan shook off his thoughts and grabbed Sehun by the end of his shirt he said softly

“C’mon Sehunnie- Let’s go get some ice cream”
