I’m hard-up for cash. I’m on a student loan for school and I have to meet my monthly payments. It was all good until the restaurant I was working in shut

down. It was fancy and paid well. Now I’m out of a job and I need one FAST and it MUST pay well. I was out for my daily morning walk. I love the crisp, fresh

air and the time away from university to let my thoughts wonder wherever they wanted to. I grabbed the daily paper to check the classifieds and I almost

choked on air when I saw an ad for a babysitter in Crescent Hills. That neighbourhood was chock full of filthy rich people! I literally ran through the streets

back to my dorm. I was applying NOW. NO ONE WAS GETTING THAT JOB BEFORE ME.

“I DO NOT NEED A BABYSITTER!” I shouted for the millionth time.

“Don’t you raise your voice at me, JoonHong!”

“I told you not to call me that! It’s Zelo!”

“That is no respectable name for my son!”

“Well when I become an idol you won’t be able to tell me what to do!”

My father held his head in his hands. “Listen, Choi JoonHong, you live in my house, you use my money, you eat my food. I am your father –”

“Oh, Krisus, would you quit using that Star Wars line every time we fight?”

A vein bulged in my father’s temple.

“THAT IS NOT THE POINT!” He exploded. “YOU WILL HAVE A BABYSITTER. YOU HAVE NO SAY IN THIS. IT HAS BEEN DECIDED!”

He picked up the morning paper he had been reading and threw it at me.

“Check the classifieds, son.” He left the house with that.

I checked and saw the ad for a babysitter with our address. I groaned. Shisus.

I GOT IT! I GOT IT! Well, not the job, but an interview! Geez, these rich people and their high standards. I received a letter with a fancy letterhead telling me to

report to The Choi Corporation on Friday. Today was Wednesday so until then I bated my breath and obsessed over what the interview would be like with

my best friend, SoHyun.

Friday:

I dressed in business attire and headed over to The Choi Corporation. It was only when I reread the letter I realized I was going to the CEO’s office. Holy

crap. I nervously patted down my hair and smoothed my skirt. I went into the secretary’s office and told her what I was there for. She notified the CEO and

told me to go right on in. I took a deep breath and walked into the office.

I felt like my presence disgraced the office. It looked the square foot of carpet I was standing on was worth more than my entire house! I just stood there,

drinking everything in when I heard a voice.

“Ms. Kim.”

I jumped. Right. I was here to get a job, not sightsee.

I bowed and introduced myself. Mr. Choi inclined his head towards me and gestured for me to sit in one of two chairs in front his desk.

“Your application is not very impressive, but it is the best out of the other mediocre ones that I received.” Mr. Choi said.

I wasn’t sure how to respond to that. I decided it wasn’t a question so I didn’t have to answer. I had an associate’s degree in childcare which wasn’t much

but it wasn’t like I wanted to take care of kids for the rest of my life. It was just a brief interest. Other than that course and other babysitting jobs I didn’t have

that much experience with kids but I had been told I was a great babysitter and included all my references.

“Tell me, Ms. Kim. What is the age of the oldest chid you have ever taken care of?”

“Ten years old, Mr. Choi.”

He grimaced. “Please answer me in complete sentences.”

I almost rolled my eyes.

“The oldest child I have babysat is a ten-year old, Mr. Choi.” I revised.

“Do you have any experience with teenagers?

No chizz, I’m a teenager.

I bit back my cheeky answer, but it was getting difficult to deal with this guy’s high-and-mighty attitude.

“If you mean babysitting experience, no, I don’t. But I’ve taught summer school every summer to high school students.

He shuffled through my references.

“Ah, yes. You seem to have gotten rave reviews from these public school teachers.” He said, pronouncing public as though he was tasting rotten eggs while he said it. My eye twitched. Calm down, HyunA, you need this job. Let’s just hope this guy’s son is down-to-earth.

“I work well with teenagers,” I said, “I respect them and they respect me.”

He smirked.

“I suppose you are the best that I can employ right now. But I’ll keep searching for someone better every now and then.”

I clenched my teeth.

“You have the job, Ms. Kim.”

I bowed and thanked him.

“Your services will be required tonight. You’ll be sleeping over as I must attend a one-day business trip.” He handed me a cell phone. “This phone will only be used for my son and me to contact you and vice versa. I will send you a reminder tonight.”

I stood and bowed.

“Kamsahamnida, Mr. Choi.”
