The whispers still didn’t cease nor did it seem to quiet down. Everyone was still in hype giving Donghae and Eunhyuk strange looks. Mostly those looks were glares from seething fangirls wanting to rip Donghae apart for ‘stealing’ their man.

“Smile,” it was a simple command from the school’s playboy. It was a low harsh whisper toward Donghae. The other boy just scowled. “You’re with me so smile idiot.”

“I’ll smile when this is all over.”

“You can’t be seen with me if you don’t grin.” 

“Is that a promise?”

Eunhyuk gave a slight glare toward the smirking Donghae. He admitted that he hated being outwitted, especially from some guy who was low on the popularity list. Eunhyuk felt like the kind invisible Donghae should thank him. He helped him get notice. He helped him be the center of attention. He helped him get popular.

The couple kept walking down the hallway pretending not to notice the students around them. It seemed impossible but Eunhyuk was already used to the analyzing gazes, fake smiles, and even the false kind words. It was nothing new to him.

Donghae hated it. He hated being watched like some wild animal at the zoo. Just like a tiger, he felt trapped in some type of damn cage. Having your every move recorded was becoming intoxicating. Donghae never liked being notice but now he was in the center of it all.

“Really? I’ve never heard that before,” a group of girls were talking rather loudly to each other about something or someone. “Is it true?”

A girl with a long braid nodded her head quickly confirming the truth. “It’s true! Donghae’s girlfriend-“ she was suddenly cut off when two pair of hands was on either side of her, trapping the gossip girl underneath. She backed into the lockers and looked up to the perpetrator.

“Don’t you ing dare…” a growl escaped Donghae’s lips. His piercing brown eyes looked into the scared ones of the girl he trapped between his arms. Anger tinted Donghae’s eyes with his mouth in a snarl.

Suddenly, a hand grabbed at Donghae’s shoulder, and with force, pulled the anger stricken man off the poor girl. Eunhyuk looked toward at the brown haired boy with an obvious look of surprise and frustration.

“What the were you damn thinking, idiot?” Eunhyuk harshly muttered under his breath. When the other didn’t reply, the playboy gave a shove toward Donghae wanting an answer.

Donghae looked over at Eunhyuk quickly then back to the girl who still had her back against the lockers. He could tell she was frightened by the sudden action especially when this came from the school’s gentle gentleman. Donghae gave one last glance toward Eunhyuk then walked the opposite side heading toward the front of the school.

“Damn, is that guy on his period or something?” Eunhyuk couldn’t help but scoff inaudibly to himself. His eyes followed the boy’s movement just like everyone else in the hallways. The halls were quiet with no one talking. The only sounds that were heard were Donghae’s heavy footsteps.

With a tired sigh, Eunhyuk put his hands in his pocket and stated to follow the other toward the outside of school. He didn’t really want to confront Donghae but he was just trying to keep his reputation not wanting to be a bad guy. Eunhyuk tried to lie to himself with that fact but that wasn’t the reason he wanted to be with Donghae.

Donghae finally reached outside of school as he heard the doors closed behind him. Just before the wooden doors shut completely, he heard the once silent hall of students become active with surprise voices. As the door sealed up it became silent. Donghae was standing in front of the school he has been attending for three years.

Wanting to get away from it all, the once pissed off boy started to jog away from the building. He didn’t know where he was going and cared less about it. All he knew was that he was skipping class. Donghae had done something so out of character with his personality. He also knew that he didn’t feel the same.

Donghae stopped his jogging to arrive at a golf course. The freshly cut grass made his nose burn a bit but at the same it comforted him. His ears could hear distant golfers trying to get the ball into the golf hole. His mind then suddenly flashed back to what had happened in the hallway. The way he lost his temper in a second. It scared him to be like that.

“It makes me wonder what the hell is happening in that damn mind of yours,” a breathless Eunhyuk stood just a few feet behind Donghae.

“Right now it’s thinking of telling you to off.”

“What are you going to do when I don’t? It seems to me you’re too tired to do anything.”

“Why are you here anyways?”

Eunhyuk shrugged, “Does it matter?” He turned to look over at his surroundings just barely realizing they were at a golf course. “Really? I didn’t even know there was a golf course around here.”

“Answering my question with another question doesn’t make it a answer,” Donghae turned around to face the annoying bastard with a lazy eye. “Stop getting distracted. No wonder your grades are low.” All Eunhyuk responded with was a scoff. 

Donghae chuckled under his breath but still Eunhyuk heard. “What’s so funny, fishy?”

“I find it odd that you followed me all the way over here.”

“There was a reason why I came you know.”

“Because of the bet?”

“No.”

Donghae stared back at the arrogant boy in front of him. His brown eyes looked at Eunhyuk up and down wandering what he wanted this time. Sometimes the playboy can be so unpredictable but most of the time he can so easy to read and figure out. Maybe everything Eunhyuk did was a false kind of personality but Donghae wasn’t sure. All he did was wait for the other to explain what he meant.

Eunhyuk stepped closer not caring about personal space. Both boys were the same height making them look into each other eyes. If one of them just leaned in just a bit then their lips would be touching. This bothered Donghae a bit making him step back.

The playboy noticed Donghae moving back which caused him to feel a bit irritated by the action. Maybe because he liked being that close to him or because he hated when people move away from him like some virus. “What happened back there?”

“Nothing that would cause you to care.”

“If I didn’t care then why the am I here? You think I just came for the bet, huh?” Eunhyuk gave a slight glare at Donghae. “I’m not here to keep my reputation and I am not here because someone forced me to. Is it so hard to believe I came because I freaking care?” Eunhyuk spat at the ground in disgust. He looked away from Donghae looking at the ground.

A loud sigh escaped Donghae’s lips. He started to feel terrible but still he was doubtful by the popular boy’s actions. He couldn’t see Eunhyuk as the type to do such things. For all Donghae knew, this boy, who said that he cared, might be lying. Besides, the Donghae would probably be with his girlfriend still if it wasn't for Eunhyuk. But Donghae couldn't really blame him for anything since he, himself, was part of the problem.

“What happened back there?” Eunhyuk repeated the question and turned his eyes on Donghae wanting an answer. Donghae looked at the boy in front of him then walked away not saying a word.

Eunhyuk couldn’t help but be stunned again. This was the second time that Donghae had ignored him. Eunhyuk understood the first time but this one was unnecessary No one just walked away from him so suddenly. A simple ‘no I won’t tell you’ or a ‘maybe next time’ would do but walking away? Donghae had balls and Eunhyuk somewhat admired him for it but would never admit it.

Eunhyuk would have been screaming and yelling at Donghae but decided against it. All he did was jog up beside Donghae and they both silently started walking around the golf course. It may have been silent with none of them talking to each other but they felt comfortable in that position. Donghae wouldn’t admit it but he liked that Eunhyuk, the bastard, was with him. The thing is he didn’t know why he liked it so much. Wait, Eunhyuk knew exactly why he liked it so much.
