You sit in silence as you watch Hyunseung. His body is moving stiffer than usual, the familiar fluidity in his movements slowly fading. And you know very well the reason behind it.

You stay in one corner of the dance studio, your chin resting on your knees. He doesn’t look at you, not even when you are sitting in front of him, completely blocking the view of his feet in the mirror behind you. His face even lost its gentle look, an infuriated one replacing it.

“Hyunseung.” Apprehensive, your voice cracks when you call out his name. Pretending not to have heard, he continued to dance, his movements still looking forced. 

“Hyunseung.” You call out again, trying once more to get his attention. He stops dancing immediately, obviously annoyed. “What?” He responds furiously.

You know Jang Hyunseung – you know him quite well. He’s the calmest, most patient laid-back person you know. Seeing him this angry was such a big surprise that tears start to breakout from your eyes. You don’t answer him, afraid that it’ll only anger him more. You keep your head down, avoiding Hyunseung’s furious gaze, as your eyes are covered entirely in tears.

You both keep quiet for a few moments, both not wanting to be the first to break it. You sit there, wiping away the tears that don’t seem to end. And he just kept standing, looking at you, but your tears prevent you from determining whether or not he’s calmed down. 

Then, still curled up with your forehead on top of your knees, you feel him sitting next to you. He doesn’t say anything but he hands you a shirt, still not looking at you. You take it hesitantly and look up at him, confusion evident in your face. You argue with yourself whether or not you should say something, but he decides for you.

“I’m sorry.” He apologizes in his usual calm tone, staring straight into the wall in front of him. You notice that he’s slowly going back to his composed, patient self, and you stop your tears at the thought of it. He continues, “I just don’t like the idea of you hanging out with him.” He shakes his head before laying it in between his knees.

You turn your body towards him, your eyes no longer avoiding his. “He’s just a friend, Hyunseung.” You try reasoning with him, hoping he doesn’t get mad again, “Jiyong’s just a friend.” You catch him glancing in your direction before letting out a loud sigh.

Then, you realize something and ask Hyunseung, a look of wonder distinct in your eyes. “Why do you care so much?” His eyes are fixed on you this time, not saying a thing. But as you open your mouth to say something again, he opens his and shuts you up completely.

“Because I like you, okay?” He confesses, leaving you with your mouth open. You‘re completely unaware that he’s been feeling that way. Hyunseung shifts his gaze straight back into the wall. “I always have,” He says softly, letting out another loud sigh, “and always will.”

You never expected him to feel that way; never knew truth until now. Your heart is pumping so fast, you’re almost hyperventilating. Hyunseung turns to look at you again, smiling this time, and then points to the shirt you’re holding. “I bought that for you.” He tells you, looking pleased with himself. You smile at the sight of him grinning and unfold the purple shirt you’ve been holding on. The words ‘You and I’ are printed in white and the word ‘Together’ is directly below it.

“Do you like it?” He asks you, looking worried. You stare at it for a while, a wide smile plastered in your face. Then you throw yourself at Hyunseung and give him a bear hug. He hugs you back, wrapping you around his arms tightly. You don’t say anything, hoping the hug was sufficient enough for an answer. But he does, as he lets go of you to say something.

“I don’t ever want to let you go.” He says sweetly, kissing your cheeks lightly afterwards.

“EVER.”
