“You’re crazy!”

Soomin practically stomped her foot as she shouted at him, although it was a big relief that she was now safe on solid ground. All her hollering had finally gotten him to stop after almost an hour of riding. She had gotten off his bike, and he sat relaxed in his seat as he leaned his helmet on the handle bars.

“All that yelling’s done something to your voice,” Jonghyun said with a smirk and Soomin’s eyes briefly flew open at the comment.

It was only partially true. In her hysteria she had let her voice go, and Soomin turned away to cover her slip up. They were on a long strip of road, and only long grass and scattered trees littered the area.

“Come on.”

Soomin turned back around to find that Jonghyun had put his helmet back on, his hands grasping the handles of his bike. She hesitated, and she could see his shoulders slump in what was probably annoyance.

“Are you coming or what?”

“Where are we going?”

“You can find out, or you can stay here.”

Seeing as all she could see was road and green from where she stood, she chose the former as she placed his extra helmet back on her head and walked up to his bike. There was nothing fancy about his motorcycle, but for him to own one was impressive to say the least.

Taking a deep breath, she reluctantly slipped behind him as he played with the gas pedal and Soomin found herself weighing the importance of not falling off the bike with the awkwardness of where she was going to put her hands to stay seated while he drove.

It was not going to be a fun ride.

“The ocean?”

“What, you don’t like the ocean?” Jonghyun retorted as he shook his head, letting his hair fall naturally as he set his helmet on the bike seat.

“No…” He heard Taemin quickly reply. Jonghyun glanced over in time to see the shorter boy turn from where he was staring at the water to face him. “You just don’t seem like that kind of guy…”

Jonghyun raised his eyebrows, lazily hanging a hand from his pant pocket. “What kinda guy?” he asked, his gaze moving to the dark blue mass.

“I dunno. A guy that would like the beach?”

Jonghyun could hear the hesitation in the shorter boy’s voice, but he ignored it as he began to walk, his firm steps disrupted by the unevenness of the sand. From the corner of his vision, he could see Taemin peering around, his eyes on the ground as they maneuvered along the shoreline.

“It’s kinda dirty…”

“It was clean when I was younger,” Jonghyun absently replied. “There was just one color in the sand, and it was the sand itself.” Jonghyun turned back to see Taemin staring at him, a mystified look etched on his face and Jonghyun quirked an eyebrow.

“Nothing,” Taemin said before Jonghyun could ask.

The shorter boy looked down, and Jonghyun rolled his eyes as he made his way to a cleaner patch. He plopped himself down in the sand, gaining another look from the one still standing.

“What, are you gonna tell me that you’re afraid of getting dirty now?” Jonghyun asked, making Taemin narrow his eyes in response. With a chuckle, Jonghyun placed both his hands behind him on the sand and leaned against his outstretched arms. “You know,” he started, “when you’re lying back like this, the ocean and sky kinda blend into each other.”

He paused and there was a short silence, and Jonghyun turned to see Taemin still staring oddly at him. “You should check it out,” he continued, “I won’t throw sand in your face if that’s what you’re afraid of.” He lifted his hands and rubbed them together, brushing off the granules that clung to his skin before he placed them both behind his head and leaned back.

Jonghyun saw Taemin approach him, the quizzical expression still painted on his face before he sat down beside him, placing his arms on his bent knees. With a sigh of resignation Taemin leaned back, and the two lay beside each other in the sand as they stared up at the sky.

“It’s nice.”

Jonghyun could hear the sincerity in his voice, and he smirked. “See? Told you Taemin. Crazy huh?”

“Yeah. You were right for once, Jonghyun.” Jonghyun scoffed, but otherwise didn’t reply.  “Hey Jonghyun,” Taemin started quietly, and Jonghyun tilted his head to the side, but not enough to gain full view of the boy lying beside him. “This is… a whole other side of you. It’s different from the gangster leader you are. Why the bad boy act?”

Jonghyun scoffed again, turning his head back towards the sky. “I’m not that bad. What’s so wrong about it?” he replied, closing his eyes as he relaxed. “Besides, there are plenty of people who are worse. Corruption, greed, business men, politicians… even the rich phonies in my family, they all wear those masks of decency, but deep down, they’re all as rotten as the sky is big.”

“Woah, you’re from a wealthy family? You’re full of surprises today, Jonghyun.”

Jonghyun opened his eyes; the voice was coming from beside him but all Jonghyun could see was the color blue. “Yeah well, it’s not like I go around bullying people for their money or anything. We just keep the other gangs in line.”

“Why are you telling me this?”

Jonghyun suddenly turned his head to find Taemin in a similar position, their faces not far apart. The feeling was slightly uncomfortable, not to mention awkward, but he quickly pushed it aside. “I dunno,” he replied, “Maybe after I put you through all that, I feel like I can tell you stuff.”

A grimace crossed Taemin’s face and Jonghyun laughed out loud before he quickly pulled away and up into a sitting position, resting his arm on a bent knee.

 “You’re weird Jonghyun.”

Jonghyun chuckled in response, his gaze still on the blue ocean. “High school gangs aren’t anything big anyway. Just groups of teenagers causing trouble. Even I know that.” He took a deep breath of fresh air before he slowly let it out, completely relaxing the muscles in his body. “You know, I’ve been friends with Minho since middle school. I guess you could say we were just your average troublemakers, and to think now I’m some regular delinquent and he’s some teenage heartthrob.” Jonghyun breathed out a small laugh, shaking his head at the thought. “Anyway,” he continued, “I think you got what it takes to hang out with us.”

He paused, waiting for a response before he heard none, and turned around in question. Taemin lay on the sand, his eyes closed and Jonghyun scowled. Was he sleeping as he was talking to him?

Jonghyun raised a hand and almost smacked the shorter boy out of instinct, but held himself back the last second. As he stared at Taemin’s sleeping face, he couldn’t help but narrow his eyes. Not that he had ever paid that much attention to Taemin’s looks, but had he always looked so… feminine?

Jonghyun swallowed, not wanting to use the word adorable to describe the sleeping boy in front of him, but having the thought slip into his mind anyway. He unconsciously inched forward as he got a better look at Taemin’s facial features, noticing for the first time how girlie Taemin actually looked. There was a glint and Jonghyun’s eyes moved to the shorter boy’s lips. Taemin must have recently wet them as they glistened against the rays of the sun, and Jonghyun couldn’t help but suddenly have the urge to kiss them as his heart pounded at the thought.
