Na Eun’s POV:

The next day,

The whole school is excited for the sports events. Everyone turns up in our school sports attire chatting happily. Students gathered around the track to cheer their friends on and girls can be seen waving prom prom of different colours. At the prize giving counter, all the trophies and medals are displayed, waiting for us. I did some warm-up exercises with Hyun Joong, preparing myself for the relay.

“We’ll see how she runs,” Min Ji said standing beside me.

“She deserves to lose,” Chae Rim chimes in.

“She better be first!”

“Are you nervous?” Hyun Joong asks me.

“No, I’m not.”

“Don’t worry, I’m a fast runner. I’ll help you win the race.” Hyun Joong assured me.

“Remember to grip the baton tightly. You’ll be done for if you drop it.” Hyun Joong reminded me.

*Even though I’m very nervous, I’m happy that I’ve got such a good friend like you. Hyun Joong oppa, I’ll try my best to win this race.*

“Attention please! Relay participants, please assume your positions.”

I make my way to the track nervously. *I really hope my body can take it. Please, let everything be fine.*

Back at home, mum is preparing to leave for work when something on the living room’s study table caught her attention.

“Eh? Who forget to bring her medicine again?”

Picking up the medicine, “Na Eun! I’m already late for work!”

“On your mark! Get set, GO!” The gun sounded.

“Go go go! 5/4 go! Go go go! 5/4 go!” I could hear my classmates cheering as our first runner Park Jung Soo took off. *Wow! Jung Soo is such a fast runner! He’s in the second place. Go Jung Soo!! He’s passing the baton to Seo Joo Hyun now… She grabbed the baton and dashed towards me. Oh my gosh! She’s fast too!! She overtook 5/2! Yes!! We are in first place now!! Relax Na Eun..relax..*

I took my position and stretched out my hand. The moment the baton touches my hand. I grabbed it and start running. I ran like dogs are at my heel. This is the fastest speed that I’ve ever ran in my life.

Meanwhile Mum is looking among the cheering students for Na Eun.

200 meters into the race, I felt my body tensing up. My breathing came out short and fast. My heart starts to ache. *Go Kim Na Eun!* I saw someone over taking me. “Go Kim Na Eun! Go go! Go Kim Na Eun! Go go!" My classmates are cheering for me. I could feel my leg getting heavier and heavier. Someone overtook me again. My vision starts to swim. *Just about 50 more meters. You’ve to be brave Na Eun! I want to complete the race. I don’t want people to look down on me anymore.* It feels like as though someone is squeezing my heart. Every breath I took hurts like crazy. *Just a little bit more Na Eun! You can do it. Just a little bit more.* I saw Hyun Joong outstretched hand. *Less than 10 more steps only* I passed the baton to him and he grabbed it. My legs gave way as I collapsed on the floor. The pain in my chest is excruciating. I try to draw breath but it hurts like crazy. I felt someone grabbed me before I fell into darkness.

Mum couldn’t find Na Eun among the students. Where could she be? She looks towards the track and she saw someone collapsing. *No! It can’t be!* Frantic, she pushes her way to the track. The figure lay panting on the floor. “No!! Na Eun!! Na Eun!!” Mum shouted as she rushes towards her daughter. She grabbed her by the shoulder and shook her, “Na Eun!!”

Hyun Joong’s POV:

Na Eun sprinted off the moment she took the baton. It seems like she remembered everything that I told her and she’s running fast. But half-way through the race, she seems to be tiring. But she persisted. Na Eun’s speed is slowing down, she’s panting already. Can she do it? I’m really worried for her. Two runners overtook her. We are tied with the last runner now. Just a little bit more Na Eun. Press on. I’ll help you win this race. She stretched out her hand; I grabbed the baton and took off. I’ve already overtook one runner. But instinct makes me look back…
