=Flashback =

Two Years Ago

It was a Sunday afternoon.
Dara was in the kitchen fixing herself a sandwich.
She suddenly heard footsteps in the living room.
She stopped what she was doing and continued listening.
She heard the TV in the living room .
Dara was alone in her apartment and she knew exactly who it was.
She smiled as she started making another sandwich.
She went to the fridge to get another bottle of juice.

Dara entered the living room holding a tray of snacks.
She saw Youngbae was resting the back of his head on the couch with his eyes closed.
Dara knew right away that there is something wrong.

It was just last night when they were out with their friends.
Seunghyun and Angela also joined them.
Dara already noticed that Youngbae was not himself.
 
She thought that he and his girlfriend were just having some misunderstanding because Angela left earlier than usual leaving Youngbae in the club with them.
She also noticed that Youngbae kept giving her the "glare look" while she was talking and laughing with Seunghyun.
Thinking that he was just not in the mood that night, she just shrugged it off.

She quietly sat beside her best friend putting the tray of snacks on the table.

"Youngbae-ah." Dara whispered as she touched his arm.

He slowly opened his eyes and sat up.

"Is there something wrong?" She asked.

Youngbae just looked at her.

Dara could tell that something is bothering his friend from the way he was acting.

"Are you okay, Youngbae?" She asked with concern.

Instead of answering, he suddenly pulled her into a tight embrace.

Dara gasped.

"Yah, I can't breathe. Youngbae-ah!"

He loosened a little, enough for Dara to relax.

"Just let me hold you like this for awhile." He said softly.

Dara wrinkled her forehead.

She was wondering why her best friend is acting that way.

She wrapped her arms around him and gently patted his back.

"What is it, Youngbae-ah?" She asked again.

He didn't answer.

Dara don't know why but she felt good hugging her best friend again after a long time.

She misses the warmth and comfort of Youngbae's hug.

When they started dating individually, it was like a mutual understanding that they limit their physical contacts.

"Can I stay her for the night, Dara?" He asked still hugging her.

Dara was surprised.

It's been a long time since he slept over her place.

"Of course you can." She replied then she paused.

"But is it okay with Angela?"

Youngbae slowly released her and smiled.

"Don't worry about her." He said without looking at her.

"It's cool."

Dara shrugged her shoulders and smiled.

"Fine, then you can stay."

She handed him a sandwich.

"Thanks, you're the best!" Youngbae said smiling as he took a big bite of out of the sandwich.

"This is yummy!" He mumbled while chewing.

Dara laughed.

"Whatta day!" Dara sighed as she lay down on her bed.

Youngbae just finished taking a shower.
He stepped out of the bathroom wearing sweat pants and white shirt.

"Good thing I left some of my stuff here." He said as he sat on the opposite side of Dara's bed.

"Lights off?" He asked Dara.

"Lights off."

He tuned off the lamp and lay down beside her.

For awhile nobody spoke.

They were both staring at the ceiling.

"Is it okay with Seunghyun that I'm sleeping here?" Youngbae suddenly asked.

"He doesn't know." Dara simply answered.

He turned his body to face her.

Even in the dark he can see her staring blankly at the ceiling.

"Do you love him?" Youngbae asked out of nowhere.

Dara was taken aback with his question.

She turned to face him and saw his serious expression even in the dark.

"What kind of question is that?" She asked with a nervous laugh.

He turned to face the ceiling again.

"Nothing, just curious."

Dara wasn't sure how to answer her best friend's question.

She never really thought about what she feels about Seunghyun.

She likes Seunghyun and she enjoys his company.
She's happy and she feels safe when she's with him.
But she thinks love is such a strong word to describe what she's feeling for him right now.

Dara suddenly became curious about something.

"Youngbae-ah?" She called in the dark.

"Yes?" Youngbae answered without looking at her.

"Do you love Angela?" She asked glancing at him.

There was a moment of silence.

Dara could see him turning his head to face her.

"What do you think?" He asked.

Dara shrugged her shoulders.

"I don't know. Maybe you love her." She replied quietly.

She saw her best friend frowned as if he was not happy to hear what she just said.

Dara felt nervous thinking she might have said something wrong.

"Forget it." She said as she turned his body to the other side.

Youngbae didn't speak.

Dara sighed.

"What I mean is that, she's the first girl you dated for a long time." She explained.

"I think you wouldn't last this long if you didn't love her."

She was waiting for Youngbae to respond but he didn't.

"Youngbae-ah, all I wanted to say is that I’m happy for the both of you." She said.

"I'm happy that you have finally found the right girl for you." She added.

Saying those words to her best friend, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness in her heart.


Youngbae was just listening.
The silence made Dara feel uncomfortable.
She could feel Youngbae moving close to her.
He felt him slip his arms around her waist pulling her closer to him.
Dara was stunned.
It felt weird because it's the first time he did that to her.

She wanted to scold him for going overboard but she couldn't speak and move.
Deep inside she felt good having Youngbae that close to her.
Her heart was beating faster.

'What's happening to me?' She thought.

Without realizing it, she held Youngbae's hands and closed her eyes.

"Angela and I broke up." He spoke.

Dara opened her eyes.

She was supposed to turn and face him but he held her back on her position.

"W-why?" She asked curiously.

"Why did you break up?"

Youngbae snuggled at back of her neck.

She felt his warm breath.

"You're wrong Dara." He whispered.

"I don't love her. I love someone else."

Hearing what Youngbae said made her relieved and shock at the same time.

"Yah!"

She tried turning to face him but he wouldn't let her.

She gave up and sighed.

"Are you back in your playboy mode again?" She asked angrily.

"Cause if you do-"

"You're the one I love Dara." Youngbae suddenly said.

Dara froze. "W-w-what did you say Youngbae?" She stammered.

"I said I love you Dara." Youngbae repeated. "I'm sorry but it's true."

Dara didn't respond or moved this time.

Youngbae tightened his embrace.

"I don't know why, but ever since you started dating Seunghyun--” His voice trailed of.

He took a deep breath.

"Ever since you started going out and spending time with Seunghyun, I started feeling jealous." He confessed.

Dara couldn't believe what she's hearing.

"Every time I see you with him, talking to him, laughing with him and holding his hands,” He took another deep breath.

"It drives me crazy."

He slowly removed her arms from Dara's waist then he turned his body to face the ceiling.

"I'm sorry Dara." He said. "I just couldn't hide my feelings anymore."

Dara didn't move from her position.

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes.

"You think it's just you, Youngbae?"
 
Long silence.

"W-what do you mean, Dara?"

"When you started dating Angela, you changed." She said.

"You don't spend much time with me anymore. I miss you and ---" She stopped when she felt a lump on .

"I didn't say anything because I saw how happy you are with her." She sobbed.

"As your best friend, I can only give you my blessing." She choked as she says those words.

"Now that you're telling me these, what am I suppose to do, Youngbae?"

She felt Youngbae put his hand on her shoulder.

Dara slowly turned to face him.

She was surprised to see his face near her.

He raised himself by leaning one elbow on the bed.
 They stared at each others eyes.

They know that they don't' need to say anything.

Both can feel their hearts beating faster.

Youngbae held Dara's face with one hand.

"I love you, Park Dara." He said gazing into her eyes while caressing her cheek.

Dara's eyes were filled with tears when she heard him.

All of the confusion in what she's feeling for Youngbae was finally cleared.

She's now sure that what she's feeling for her best friend is something more than what she had for him before.

She touched his face.

"I love you too, Dong Youngbae." She whispered.

He leaned over and gave her a kiss on the lips.
He her hair and smiled at her.
Dara was surprised to see his eyes were starting to form tears.

Youngbae never felt this way before.  
For the first time, his heart opened up to a woman.
For the first time, the words "I love you" is easy to say to someone.
Holding her is like holding on to something precious that he couldn't let go.
He has never been so sure about his feelings until now.
 
He pulled Dara close and gave her a passionate kiss that melted all the ice in their hearts.

=End of Flashback =


Dara wiped her tears.
She slowly sat up and looked around the room.
She glanced beside her and saw Seunghyun sleeping soundly facing the opposite side.


=Flashback =

Seunghyun was driving Dara's car.
Nobody said a single word since they left the club.
Dara was just gazing out of the window.
Seunghyun was getting worried and he has no idea on what to do.

"Uhmmm... Dara?" He called her attention.

"Yes?"

"Where do you want to go?"

"Anywhere Seunghyun." Dara said quietly."I just don't want to go home right now."

Long silence.

"I think you need to take some rest, Dara." Seunghyun suggested.

"You had a long day."

He wanted to send her home so that she can have a rest.

"Seunghyun-ah," She said rubbing her temples.

"Please bring me somewhere quiet."

He glanced at her and saw that she's already tired.
 
He knew that Dara needs to rest after the whole event.
He was thinking of a place where she can take a rest without anyone disturbing her.
He had an idea.

"Dara-ah, just close your eyes and rest. I'll wake you up once we get there."

Driving for two hours or more, they have reached their destination.
It's a place where Seunghyun go to when he needs time to be alone.
It's his secret place that nobody, even his best friend, Jiyong, knows.

Seunghyun checked on Dara who was sleeping peacefully.
He doesn't want to wake her up so he carried Dara all the way to the house.
He laid her in bed and covered her with blanket.

He was about to leave the room when he heard her spoke.
"Y-Youngbae, " She muttered from her sleep.
Seunghyun saw a tear rolling down her cheek.
He sat beside her in the bed
He wiped the tear from her cheek.
Dara suddenly held his hand.
She slowly opened her eyes.

"Seunghyun-ah," She said as more tears flowed from her eyes.

"Shhhh..." He hushed her.

"Seunghyun-ah, if it's not too much to ask, can you stay with me for the night." She asked.

"Please sleep beside me." She begged.

"I don't want to feel that I'm alone tonight."

Seunghyun was a little hesitant.
But seeing Dara's pleading eyes, he agreed.
He lay beside her as Dara turned to face him.
She closed her eyes and went back to sleep.
He carefully turned his body to face her.
He caressed her face lightly making sure not to wake her up.

'Dara-ah,' He thought.

'I know you're suffering right now. Don't worry, I'll stay with you and never leave your side.'

= End of Flashback =

Dara got out of bed and tip-toed to the other side of the room.
She peeks through the window.
The sun is out and she can see lots of trees outside.

'Seems like we're somewhere on the mountains.’ She thought.

She took a deep breath. 'Feels so close to nature.'

Last night she made a decision to end it with Youngbae, her lover and best friend.
The man she was madly and deeply in love with all these years.
She doesn't know when she will recover from all the pain.

Then she glanced back to Seunghyun who was still sleeping.
She bit her lips and walks to his the side of the bed.
Looking at him made her feel sorry for him.
She used Seunghyun.
After all this time, he still hasn't change.
He still treated her nicely even after rejecting him two years ago.
And now he's still willing to help her.

She looked at him with guilt in her eyes.

'Seunghyun-ah,' She thought.

'You did a lot for me last night. I'm afraid that I may not be able to repay you. Thank you so much for all the help.'

She kneeled down beside bed; she gazed at her and his hair lightly.

"I know how you feel about me Seunghyun-ah, I'm not blind. I just hope you could wait.'' She whispered as she leaned over to kiss his forehead.
