Chapter 11

Redemption

Alligator hunting season had started and Beomgyu was ready. Heeseung would be manning the boat while Beomgyu and Youngtaek took care of the alligators. Heeseung knew that this would be a fun experience for someone like Youngtaek, and having three people in one boat was actually advantageous. One person could focus on driving the boat while the other two could focus on getting the alligators.

They ended up taking one of Jaehwan's boats, with Jaehwan's permission of course, and ended up being the team doing Jaehwan's area, being mindful of the humans that were hunting this year.

Poachers were fair game as far as Beomgyu was concerned, and the area they were in was a famous spot for them.

Youngtaek understood now, the thrill of alligator hunting. He liked just the thrill of being able to bring in the alligators and hit it over the head in the special spot with a hammer and nail. He did miss the first couple times, but was able to memorize the spot quickly enough to get the rest perfectly.

"Good job," called Heeseung as Beomgyu hauled the last alligator into the boat with Youngtaek's help. "We have what, 10?" Asked Beomgyu as he took count. "It feels more than that," commented Youngtaek as he stretched, sitting down on the cooler once he was situated.

"So who was on whose team this year?" Asked Beomgyu. "Well, it was Jungwon and Sunoo, Jake and Sunghoon, and then Niki and Jay," responded Heeseung. "Then you have you, me and the fox," he added as he started driving the boat back to their docking spot.

After maneuvering the boat onto the trailer Heeseung drove the truck out, dragging the trailer out of the water and stopping so that Beomgyu could hop out and secure the boat. "Come on fox," called Heeseung as he leaned out the driver's side window. "We're headed back to get these turned in," he added. "Oh, sure," replied Youngtaek as he hopped down from the boat and ran over, getting in to passenger seat and closing the door. Beomgyu waved to them before Heeseung drove off and Beomgyu headed off to hunt.

"Where'd Beomgyu go?" Asked Youngtaek. "Kid went hunting," replied Heeseung as he drove, keeping an eye on the road. "Oh right," grumbled Youngtaek. "You keep forgetting that huh?" Asked Heeseung. "Honestly it doesn't cross my mind half the time," replied Youngtaek as he shrugged. Heeseung hummed in response, taking a look behind him before turning into the processing center where the others were already waiting, having dropped off their alligators already.

"Beomgyu went hunting?" Asked Jungwon after Heeseung parked the truck, nodding to Jungwon when he got out. "Yeah, he needed to," came the reply from Heeseung as someone came over to count the alligators while Youngtaek got out and went to watch, curious as to how it was done.

"Nice catches for a first day," remarked Jay as he watched the process. "It took some getting used to, but I was able to get them in the right spot after the fourth try," hummed Youngtaek as he turned to Jay. Jay nodded, tilting his head to the side as he studied the largest catch. "Woo, that's a big gator," he remarked. "It took all three of us to get into the boat, after I killed it," stated Youngtaek as he nodded at it.

"Your pay for today was already deposited," said Jungwon as Beomgyu returned back to the pack house after hunting. "Okay," hummed Beomgyu. "Thanks for that," he added. "The fox got his share I'm assuming?" He asked. Jungwon nodded.

"We have a busy next few weeks it looks like," called Heeseung as he walked over. "Everyone else is finished with their tags already, we need to step up the game," he added. "We were scouting the area, and just using a hook and line," explained Beomgyu. "So we'll have ours done within the next few weeks," he added.

"Do you think you'll need help?" Asked Jungwon. "Probably not," replied Heeseung as he shrugged. "Poachers are fair game right?" Asked Beomgyu. "Sure, if you catch them," replied Jungwon as he shrugged. "Just don't kill every one you see," he added. "Aw, but that's not fun," whined Beomgyu, earning an amused chuckle from Jungwon.

"Luckily Jaehwan's got the biggest territory right?" Asked Beomgyu. "He does, but we won't be able to get to all of it," hummed Heeseung. "We'll have to have another team out there with us to cover the area," he added. "I can get Jake and Sunghoon to do it," replied Jungwon. "They got the least amount of tags in the bunch, so I know they want to do more hunting before the season's over," he added.

"Sure," hummed Heeseung. "We can work with that," he added. "Cool," replied Jungwon as he nodded.

"So here's how we're dividing it up," explained Heeseung as he brought out a map of the area to show Jake and Sunghoon. "We're here," he added, pointing to a spot. "We cover this giant area," he explained as he circled the surrounding area. "Jaehwan's pack house is here," he added, drawing a star. "This is the mid point," he added. "Luckily we got permission to dock the boats here," he added.

"They know we're there right?" Asked Jake. "They do, also the property owner said it was okay to dock here, as long as he got a small cut of the profits," explained Heeseung. "How small of a cut are we talking?" Asked Sunghoon. "10%," explained Heeseung. "So we both go up and down the river?" Asked Jake. "Yes," answered Heeseung as he nodded.

"Did they reinforce the small bridge they built years ago?" Asked Sunghoon. "They did," hummed Heeseung. "We just have to be slow going over it," he added.

"Can we trust your vampire friend?" Asked Sunghoon. "You know better than to ask me that," growled Heeseung. "He's not the type of person to just go out and do what he does without reason," he explained.

Beomgyu blinked, zoning back in as Youngtaek dropped down in a sitting position beside him. "I don't think they trust you," commented Youngtaek as he leaned against the tree Beomgyu was sitting against. "I can see why," hummed Beomgyu as he looked up at the sky. "To the others I'm just a vampire, but I was one of Heeseung's best friends," he added.

"Do they even know he's half vampire?" Asked Youngtaek. "I'd imagine so," hummed Beomgyu. "He doesn't hunt that often though, he's in enough control to not show his vampire side too often," he added. "Interesting," hummed Youngtaek.

"If you don't trust me to keep him in line then why is Jungwon letting them stay?" Asked Heeseung. "Sorry, we've never met him before, so you understand our hesitation," explained Sunghoon. "It's fine," grumbled Heeseung. "Have some faith in my friends yeah?" He asked. "Sure sure," said Jake.

"I'll go let Beomgyu and the fox know of the plans," Heeseung said as he folded the map and put it back in the bag he was using for alligator hunting before going to find Beomgyu and Youngtaek. Jake and Sunghoon watched him go before turning to each other and shaking their heads before going to find Jungwon.

"I know you hunted not too long ago, but did you want to go hunting with me?" Asked Heeseung as he looked down at Beomgyu who looked up at him. "Eh, sure why not," responded Beomgyu as he got to his feet, stretching and turning to Youngtaek who shrugged. "Go without me, I'll be here," said Youngtaek. Beomgyu nodded and turned to Heeseung who took the lead, sprinting off into the forest to hunt. Beomgyu followed after him, watching as Heeseung changed to his wolf form as he leaped into the air, landing on four feet.

"You remind me too much of Taehyun," remarked Beomgyu as he came to a stop beside Heeseung. Heeseung huffs, nudging Beomgyu with his snout before they both ran off, heading deeper into the forest to hunt.
