Chapter 8

Redemption

After getting his papers from Berlin Beomgyu and Youngtaek got on a plane headed to Toronto. Business class it was, and Youngtaek was excited for it. He had never been on a plane before, let alone business class.

Beomgyu was more than willing to share his meals with Youngtaek, knowing how much 'shifters could eat, and Youngtaek gladly took the food.

Youngtaek was ecstatic about how cool business class was. Beomgyu remembered the feeling of his first business class trip, and didn't bother to try and calm the hyper fox down. He just let Youngtaek be excited, knowing that Youngtaek could be calm when needed.

Landing in Toronto brought new curiosities within Youngtaek as he and Beomgyu left the terminal after landing and going to the entrance after making sure they had everything.

"Where are we heading to?" Asked Youngtaek as Beomgyu hailed a cab and got in with Youngtaek getting in on the other side. "We're headed to a Starbucks," responded Beomgyu as he handed the address to the cab driver, settling into his seat afterwards.

"Why there?" Asked Youngtaek as he watched the scenery go by. "So you can relax a bit and I can get to hunting," hummed Beomgyu.

"Ah, right, I forget you need to hunt sometimes," mumbled Youngtaek. "How could you forget something like that of all things?" Asked Beomgyu as he shook his head in exasperation. "I forget okay?" Asked Youngtaek.

After getting dropped off at the Starbucks Youngtaek headed in while Beomgyu went off to hunt, leaving the city since he had to hunt animals.

Youngtaek ended up getting a Frappuccino, sitting down in a chair near the windows after he got his drink. He looked out the window in thought, humming to himself.

Beomgyu stood in the forest as Chani stood in front of him, staring him down. "You're early," commented Chani as he tilted his head to the side. "We took the first flight here from Berlin," Beomgyu replied, speaking in Russian accented English.

"We?" Asked Chani as he raised an eyebrow. "I brought along a fox 'shifter who's never been out of the country, let alone Europe," hummed Beomgyu as he shrugged. "I see," muttered Chani. "Let's go hunt then," he added after a minute of contemplation, turning and sprinting off to hunt. Beomgyu soon sprinted after him, the both of them finding a herd of deer to go after.

When they returned to Toronto, and the Starbucks that Chani owned, Youngtaek was sitting there tapping his foot as he looked bored out of his mind. "You could've come with me you know," remarked Beomgyu as he sat down in front of Youngtaek. "I didn't want to disturb your hunt," explained Youngtaek as he shrugged.

"Well, you would've been able to get some sleep," remarked Chani as he shrugged, walking over and sitting down between Beomgyu and Youngtaek. "Ah, I really didn't want to bother," replied Youngtaek, speaking English with a Norwegian accent.

"You're from Norway?" Asked Chani. "Yeah, born and raised," replied Youngtaek. "I went to Russia after a few years though, and I've been there ever since," he added. "Interesting," hummed Chani.

"So what did you need me here for?" Asked Beomgyu as he and Chani sat down on the front porch swing of Chani's house. "Ah, Junhan stopped by," explained Chani. "Oh?" Asked Beomgyu.

"He was here to drop off Gunil's rifle," explained Chani. "Giving it to Yunho?" Asked Beomgyu. Chani nodded. "He also dropped off a letter," he added. "Really?" Asked Beomgyu. "It's from someone named Kai? That's what he explained anyway," explained Chani as he handed over an envelope. Beomgyu gently took the envelope, looking at it with apprehension as he let out a soft sigh.

"I guess he forgot to give it to you," hummed Chani. "No, there was a reason for this letter," muttered Beomgyu. "I'll leave you to it then," said Chani as he got up, heading back into the house.

Beomgyu looked at the familiar messy handwriting that belonged to his brother before turning the envelope over and gently tearing it open, taking out a piece of folded paper and unfolding it, reading the contents within.

Gyu,

If you're reading this I'm probably dead. Or it's been years since we've last seen each other and I had Junhan pass on this letter.

Or Junhan forgot to give you this letter and handed it over to someone who would be able to give it to you. I don't know. Your world is complicated.

I wanted to tell you that I've always forgiven you for what you did. I was the perfect child, the favorite. But we know that you were the favorite. Our parents tried to protect you, you see. They knew of what you were doing to me. But I guess you never knew that. You ended up in the army anyway.

I guess you never realized that huh? Military school was supposed to turn you away from the army. You ended up joining anyway. It's okay. You came back better than before at least. You're able to control that temper more.

"I don't think so," grumbled Beomgyu as he sighed. "I couldn't control my temper enough to keep from killing you," he muttered, shaking his head as he continued reading.

But what I really admire is what you've done to change yourself after the accident. I may have faked being with the mindset of a child's but you were putting in the effort to change. Soobin was a good influence on you. So was Jiseok.

I forgive you okay? Don't beat yourself up over my passing, or what you've had to go through since we've last seen each other. You're still family to me. I don't care what others think.

Your brother,

Kai

Beomgyu was tempted to tear up the letter, but he folded it back up and put it back in the envelope instead. He took out the zippo lighter from his pants pocket, opening it and striking the lighter section. He watched as a flame appeared and decided to light the envelope on fire, erasing what was probably the last thing he had of Kai's. He let the burning envelope fly from his finger tips thanks to a small breeze before putting the lighter back in his pocket after closing the lid.

"You okay Gyu?" Asked Youngtaek as he left the house, closing the door before sitting on the porch swing beside Beomgyu. "I don't know honestly," hummed Beomgyu as he stared out at the forest in front of him.

"Well, I'm here," said Youngtaek as he looked at Beomgyu before turning to look at the forest in front of him. "I know, I know," whispered Beomgyu as he closed his eyes, leaning his head back as he faced the ceiling.
