It was a weekend, and Taehyung was so excited to tell Dahyun that the convenience store had just changed ice cream flavor. He wanted to take a walk with her, eat some ice cream and perhaps, visit the bookstore again.

Taehyung sighed as he remembered what happened to them at the bookshop.

It was probably wrong for him to still be close to her. It was wrong for him to confuse himself more. However, he could not help but to look for Dahyun’s presence, as if his day would not be complete without laying his eyes on her.

He rang her doorbell, and he readied his beam. He was so excited to be greeted by her smile again.

However, it was another familiar face that opened the door for him.

“Uhm,” Jungkook mumbled, “Nice to meet you again.”

Taehyung’s countenance immediately shifted into a frown as he said, “Why the hell are you in Dahyun’s apartment?”

“To study,” Jungkook answered simply.

“You could have studied in the library,” Taehyung uttered, “There’s no need to visit here.”

The corner of Jungkook’s lips lifted into a smirk.

“Then why are you here?” Jungkook challenged, “There’s no need for neighbors to visit each other too.”

“That’s none of your business,” Taehyung scowled.

“What happens between the two of us behind this door is none of your business too,” Jungkook retorted.

Taehyung’s jaw clenched as he glared at the male why Jungkook held his laughter, enjoying the reaction that he had elicited.

“Jungkook, why are you taking so long to get the pizza?”  Dahyun called.

“It’s not the pizza boy!” Jungkook shouted back, “It’s Mr. Friendly Neighbor!”

There were running steps before Dahyun appeared beside Jungkook.

“Hello, Taehyung,” Dahyun beamed at him, and that seemed to appease Taehyung.

“Hey. I wanted to invite you for ice cream,” Taehyung explained.

“Sorry,” Dahyun apologized, “But we’re studying for the exams.”

“Just the two of you?” Taehyung immediately blurted.

“Our friends are also here,” Jungkook answered, now with a smile playing on his lips, “So you should stop worrying.”

“Sorry. We can probably go tomorrow?” Dahyun urged.

Taehyung the bottom of his lip. He almost nodded and left it at that, but the more he stared at the image of Dahyun beside Jungkook, the more he felt bothered.

“What are you studying?” he asked.

“Oh. Algebra. Just one of our general education subjects – “ Dahyun answered.

“I can help,” he volunteered, “I’m good with Algebra. I got the highest grade in my class when I was in college.”

Jungkook turned his head to his side as he bit back a chuckle.

“Well, maybe we could use some help?” Dahyun turned to Jungkook, as if waiting for affirmation.

Taehyung despised the way that his plan now fell into the hands of Jungkook. To his surprise, the latter nodded.

“Of course,” Jungkook exclaimed, “We could use an extra brain.”

The three then went inside Dahyun’s unit where Chaeyoung, Tzuyu and Yugyeom were all waiting in the living room. Taehyung greeted the two females whom he had met before; Dahyun then introduced him to Yugyeom and vice-versa. Dahyun made some space between her and Tzuyu. Taehyung then sat on Dahyun’s left side while Jungkook sat on the right.

Fortunately, Taehyung still remembered his Algebra. Jungkook was impressed with his intelligence and he could clearly see that Taehyung did not lie when he said that he was good at the subject matter.

“Can you open this for me?” Dahyun asked Jungkook as she could not open the bottled iced tea that they bought.

However, when she was about to give it to Jungkook, Taehyung snatched it from her hands, opening it nonchalantly while he continued teaching.

Dahyun’s friends could have isolated that situation but the way that Taehyung paid more attention to Dahyun was evidenced throughout the session.

“Jungkook, do you want mushrooms?”

“I’m fine with them. If you don’t want them on pizza, you can just put on the other slice and I’ll eat it later,” Jungkook answered.

“Thank you,” Dahyun beamed before sticking her tongue out.

However, as soon as she was done removing all the mushrooms from her pizza slice, Taehyung got the slice where she had put her mushrooms and ate it.

Dahyun stared at him quizzically before Taehyung said, “I like mushrooms. Next time, just give it all to me.”

Jungkook coughed away his chortle while Chaeyoung and Tzuyu exchanged knowing looks.

“That’s a relief. I don’t like mushrooms too,” Yugyeom said before giving Taehyung another slice of pizza with extra mushroom toppings.

As Taehyung stared at him with a deadpanned expression, Yugyeom immediately retreated the slice he had offered and said, “Actually, maybe it’s time for me to start learning to eat them.”

As Taehyung’s mastery over the subject was clearly evident, their study session lasted shorter than they expected. They then proceeded to watch a movie in Dahyun’s living room and the tutoring session was enough for Taehyung to warm up to her friends – everyone except Jungkook.

Taehyung was getting a glass of water for him and Dahyun when Jungkook also entered the kitchen.

“Here,” Jungkook handed Taehyung’s ID back to him, “I know you took good care of Dahyun that night. Thank you.”

“No need to thank me. I didn’t do it for you,” Taehyung muttered as he got the ID from Jungkook.

Jungkook beamed as Taehyung instantly had a frown in his face whenever Jungkook attempts to talk to him, and Jungkook knew the reason why.

“The ‘future boyfriend’ thing, please don’t take it too seriously,” Jungkook stated, “It’s just a joking promise between us that we could just date each other if we are still single after college.”

Taehyung’s countenance finally softened, but he couldn’t understand what he was supposed to feel.

Should I be happy that at least there’s nothing in between them? Or should I be worried that I am working on a deadline?

Taehyung shook his head.

Neither. I should not be feeling anything.

“But I don’t think that would happen,” Jungkook continued, “Because I think Dahyun has someone she likes.”

“Dahyun has someone….?” Taehyung’s words trailed.

Jungkook beamed, seeing how oblivious Taehyung was. He added, “But if something goes wrong, then I might reconsider dating Dahyun for real. That guy should come to his senses soon.”

“I envy you,” Chaeyoung blurted, “You have a kind and handsome neighbor. Perfect K-Drama male protagonist.”
