Chapter 6 - Feels like Insomnia
No SignalYewon always thought that Namsan late at night brought her comfort on the nights she couldn't sleep. But that night, she realised that the comfort came from being in the presence of the one she usually comes here with.
Ah, I miss Yuna…
It was their thing, to take the Owl Bus to the top of Namsan and then slowly stroll downhill while sharing stories in the quiet of the night.
The first time, it had been Yuna who had first suggested the impromptu late-night outing to celebrate successfully performing their theatre club’s musical. Titled, “The Magic Flute: The Musical”, it was a special musical that Yuju and Eunha had written for their university’s 100th anniversary. They had based it off of Mozart’s renowned opera, “The Magic Flute”, translated the two acts that included both singing and spoken dialogue to Korean, rewrote the scenes to be set in Goguryeo* and rearranged the pieces so that they could be sung in a mix of a contemporary musical theatre and Changguk* singing style instead. It had taken them months to come up with it, with many, many revisions in between.
Yewon had even offered to help with the translations of the original lyrics to Korean, being well-versed in German. She had learnt it for the exchange program she did at the Technical University of Munich. Initially, she had been hesitant about learning a new language and living in a foreign country, but it turned out to be one of the best experiences of her life. Not only did it allow her to broaden her horizons and gain invaluable knowledge, but it also led her to form a deeper connection with Yuna. Yuna had been her primary source of encouragement and support throughout her time in Munich, and their frequent late-night video calls helped Yewon feel less homesick. The process of learning German had allowed her to contribute significantly to the success of their musical project, and Yewon couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunities and experiences that had brought her closer to Yuna.
