Every time I start working on this story, I can’t stop singing f(x)’s Nu ABO lol. Also Yoojung’s Beta outfit in this chapter is based on the blue suit outfits that the girls wear in the Picky Picky vid, just fyi.

-

Lucy stared at herself in the mirror as she buttoned up her blazer.

It was the red and gold one Suyeon had mentioned to her about a million times, of course.

The colors screamed Alpha.

Suyeon told her that the Alpha officers would be impressed with her dedication to the Alpha name if she wore it to her ceremony.

Well, that was if she was given the Alpha title.

The day of her sorting was finally here.

The day that she would finally know for sure if she was a true Alpha.

Sure, everyone had always told her that she had the Alpha spirit, but there were no guarantees.

Running her palms down the of her jacket, she smiled.

Who was she kidding, she wasn’t nervous.

Lucy was always confident in everything that she did.

Today was no different.

She was more than confident that she would be named an Alpha.

“Hey,” Lucy watched Suyeon in the mirror as she entered the room, “You ready, champ?”

The younger girl turned to face her elder, wearing a giant, toothy grin that made her eyes curve upward.

“Absolutely. I’ve been waiting for this day since I first learned what an Alpha was.”

Suyeon couldn’t hold back her smile.

She had helped shape Lucy into the young, hopefully-soon-to-be Alpha that she was today, and she was beyond proud of her.

She pressed her hands to Lucy’s shoulders, sliding them downward to straighten out her collar.

“Good,” she nodded matter-of-factly, “You’re going to be great and before you know it, you’ll be starting your official Alpha classes.”

Lucy raised her hand and caught one of Suyeon’s wrists, stilling it momentarily.

Their eyes met, Lucy’s full of excitement and confidence, Suyeon’s full of love and warmth.

“Thank you for everything you’ve done for me, Suyeon.”

The elder girl quickly pulled Lucy in for a hug, but just as quickly pushed her away.

“Don’t want to wrinkle your outfit. You have to look your best today.”

Lucy chuckled slightly as her mother and father also walked in to join them.

“Mr. and Mrs. Noh,” Suyeon turned and bowed slightly, “I have a brief meeting with the officers before the ceremony, so I’ll give you some time with your daughter…You should be very proud of her.”

-

“Why do I have to go to this stupid thing? I don’t feel like dressing up just to sit around with a bunch of people I barely know,” Elly grumbled as she flopped down onto a bench in the quad.

She and Rina were on their way to the A.B.O. theater hall across campus for Lucy’s coming of age ceremony.

Rina moved to stand in between Elly’s knees, caressing her elder’s cheeks in her palms before leaning down to press a soft kiss to her forehead.

“Because Suyeon is your friend and Lucy is most likely going to be your roommate soon. You should be nice to them.”

Elly suddenly gripped her girlfriend’s hips, careful though not to crease her flowing dress.

“I wish I could just move in with you instead. How about we skip the ceremony and go buy a house together, yeah?”

Rina rolled her eyes, letting out a small giggle.

“You’re such a loser. Now come on,” she grabbed one of Elly’s hands that was still holding her in place and tugged her to her feet, “We don’t want to be late. Suyeon put a lot of effort into preparing Lucy for today.”

-

Lua sat in a seat in the front row of the auditorium, her eyes trained on Yoojung who was sitting with the other Beta officers onstage.

She didn’t know any of the new students who were getting their classifications today, but it didn’t matter because she had come to see Yoojung.

The smaller girl was dressed in her officer’s uniform, as were the other Beta officers, which they only wore to formal school events.

They were light blue suits that matched the Beta pins they were forced to wear, the men in slacks and women in skirts.

Each faction’s officers wore the same type of outfits, just of different colors.

The Alphas’ were golden and the Omegas’ were white.

Lua couldn’t help but notice how hideous she found the colors.

Although, Yoojung pulled hers off, looking rather like a small child with her long, brown hair pulled back and curled.

An older man in a charcoal suit and graying hair passed through Lua’s line of sight, taking a spot behind a podium set up at the side of the stage.

He cleared his throat into the microphone, the noise sounding through the theater’s speakers and gaining everyone’s attention.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please be seated. The ceremony is about to begin.”

People quickly shuffled to their seats, the majority of guests around Lua being family members who were there to see their younger relatives be sorted.

However, the four seats directly to her right were occupied by some younger girls who seemed to be university students.

The one directly next to her- a rather tall girl, she noted- was also wearing a Beta pin.

The others, however, Lua couldn’t see well.

When the room was finally quiet, the lights above the audience dimmed and others brightened to better illuminate the stage.

The president gave a brief speech about how honored he was to be introducing the new wave of students into his university.

Truthfully, Lua zoned out about halfway through.

Next each lead officer said a quick word about what each of their classes stood for.

The students in the audience who had been attending the school for more than a semester already practically knew their speeches by heart.

“Alphas are strong and courageous. We must continue to bring honor to our school, our community, and our name.”

“When you become a Beta, you stand for logic and strength. You must act out of wisdom and intelligence, but always hold your ground.”

“The Omega role is so much more than many of you may believe. Creativity and conscience are just as important to humanity as power.”

Finally, it was time to announce each new entrant’s class.

A month prior to the ceremony, the president, the dean of each faction, and all of the officers hold an interview and evaluation with each candidate in order to determine which faction they will be placed in.

Lua remembered the feeling of all of their eyes on her, examining her in an almost demeaning manner as they asked her all sorts of unnecessary questions.

Onstage, the lead officers moved to stand behind a table full of A, B, and O pins which they would hand to the president to fasten to each student’s shirt as they were called forward.

The Alpha dean, a rather serious looking, muscled man, replaced the president at the microphone.

“Good evening. I am Dr. Hyungjoon Mah, the Alpha dean at this university for nearly seven years. I will be announcing those who have been chosen for the role of Alpha,” he turned his head to face all of the students who were waiting in their seats towards the center-back of the stage, “Please come forward as I call your name.”

The first person called was an Eunwoo Cha.

He walked towards the front, his posture perfect and his steps full of purpose.

Truthfully, he looked a little small to be an Alpha in Lua’s opinion, but he wore the look of an Alpha.

His eyes were dark, his gaze strong and focused.

He bowed to the president, then the dean, followed by the head Alpha officer, and finally the rest of the Alpha officers.

After, he walked to the president, earning his pin, then returned to his seat.

Quite a few names were called after him, a healthy mix of males and females, but Lua quickly lost interest.

There were far more people there than she had considered when initially deciding to attend.

Bored, she found Yoojung once more.

This time though, it seemed as Yoojung had become uninterested in the ceremony as well because her eyes greeted Lua’s.

The smaller girl gave a cute smile and a small wave.

Lua couldn’t help but chuckle at how excited she looked.

Suddenly, as another name was announced, the Beta girl sitting next to Lua shot to her feet and began applauding loudly.

“Woo! Lucy! That’s our Alpha baby!”

Lua flinched, surprised by her volume.

A few people in the audience chuckled at her actions, but the girl in the seat next to her apparently did not find it amusing.

“Would you sit down?” She whispered frantically as she grabbed the taller girl’s arm and tugged her back into her seat.

The Beta broke into a fit of giggles as she went on teasing her friend about random things.

With that, Lua turned back to the stage to find the Alpha dean and head officer switching places with their Beta equivalents.

Lua was a little more interested in who the incoming Betas were, since both she and Yoojung were in that class.

But her intrigue still didn’t change the fact that she didn’t know any of them.

They were mostly just fresh-faced, wide-eyed kids who were still oblivious to the fact that university life wasn’t anything great.

This time, Lua managed to make it through all of the students’ names without spacing out.

However, once the Omega names began being called, she quickly found herself unconcerned with the ceremony again.

-

After the ceremony, Lucy’s friends and family formed their own little crowd in the auditorium’s lobby, waiting for the newly named Alpha to come out, so that they could shower her with praise.

“There she is!” Doyeon screamed as she ran towards Lucy, who had just barely emerged from the theater doors.

The younger girl stumbled backwards at the force of her elder’s embrace.

“Congratulations, Lucy~,” Doyeon covered her face with playful kisses, “I can’t believe you’re officially an Alpha now! It seems like only yesterday we were tiny babies, factions being the farthest things from our minds. All we seemed to be concerned with back in those days were juice-boxes and stuffed animals!”

“Thank you for the history lesson, Doyeon~,” Lucy’s response sounded just as cheesy as her elder’s had, their long-built chemistry practically flooding the room.

From behind them, Sei cleared .

“Um, maybe Lucy’s other guests would like to congratulate her now…”

Doyeon tossed Lucy a wink before finally retreating back to Sei.

“We’re so proud of you, sweetheart,” her mother immediately replaced Doyeon, “Congratulations on officially being named an Alpha. We love you so much.”

“You’re a strong one,” her father’s gruff voice cut in as he ruffled her hair lovingly, “We always knew. Congratulations.”

Meanwhile, towards the back of the crowd, Elly was once again throwing a tantrum.

“The ceremony’s over, can we go now please?”

She put on her best pout, completely out of character for an Alpha.

“Why don’t we go tell her congratulations?” Rina brushed her thumb carefully against the back Elly’s hand, “I’m sure Suyeon would be happy to see her two closest friends getting along.”

The redhead sighed as she rolled her neck, cracking it rather loudly.

“Okay. But only because you asked.”

Rina chuckled at how childish her girlfriend could be at times.

As they began pushing their way to the front of the crowd, Elly suddenly found her brain giving her a mental pep talk.

“Okay, you’ve got this. No need to be nervous. You’re an Alpha.”

Why?

To be honest, she wasn’t sure.

Maybe it was because she had never really been that close with Lucy before.

Or maybe it was because she knew that Suyeon always liked Lucy more than her.

Although it was probably because Lucy was a new Alpha, and truthfully Elly felt a little threatened by her.

The elder Alpha clenched her fists at her sides, squeezing Rina’s hand a bit harder than she meant to.

Despite the girl’s much younger age, Lucy was taller, and most likely stronger than Elly.

She hated that she wasn’t big.

Yeah, it was one thing to be named an Alpha.

It meant that one possessed the power, the strength, the drive to hold that title.

But it was another thing to show it.

With some Alphas, you could just look at them and tell what their faction was.

Lucy was one of those people.

Elly, on the other hand, had to really show it.

Many people tended to mistake her for a Beta, or even an Omega, until her ferocity came out.

When she was in a bad mood, often from being mislabeled, she’d bare her fangs, her muscles flexing instinctively to show her true self.

“Hi, Lucy,” Rina’s gentle voice broke Elly’s train of thought, “I know we don’t know each other that well, but we just wanted to come say congratulations on your sorting tonight. Suyeon has been keeping us updated on how excited you’ve been for today.”

The taller girl gave a small, appreciative bow.

“Well, thanks for coming. Now that I’m a student here, maybe we’ll finally get around to being friends.”

The two chuckled, but it just made Elly’s blood boil.

Was Lucy trying to make a move on her girl?

“Hey, I’m Elly,” she swiftly outstretched her arm towards Lucy, “Rina’s girlfriend. Congrats on being named an Alpha. I’m also an Alpha, so expect to see a lot of me around campus.”

Lucy happily shook Elly’s hand, giving an excited smile.

Elly couldn’t help but notice how strong the younger girl seemed without even trying.

“Elly- I think we’ve met through Suyeon before. You’re her roommate, right?”

The redhead simply gave a sharp nod.

“Ah yeah, she’s mentioned you. The one who doesn’t like to clean,” she withdrew her hand from Elly’s, giving her a playful jab with her elbow instead, “I’m just kidding. Suyeon only ever has nice things to say about you. In fact, I’m excited to hopefully be getting to room with you guys this upcoming semester.”

“My ears are burning~.”

Lucy turned around towards the new voice to find Suyeon with her arms out, waiting expectantly for a hug.

Lucy ran towards her elder and captured her in her arms, much like Doyeon had previously done to her.

Except the younger girl decided to pick Suyeon up and twirl her around slightly.

“Now that the ceremony’s over, you can finally tell me how proud you are of me without worrying about messing up my outfit.”

After being placed back onto her feet, Suyeon chuckled.

“I am proud of you, kid, but that doesn’t mean I can stop acting like an Alpha,” she raised an eyebrow to emphasize her point, “No more picking me up like that.”

Lucy bowed her head and quickly apologized.

Suyeon really had her trained.

-

Lua quickly caught Yoojung’s hand as she was finally coming down from the stage.

All of the other attendees had already cleared out of the auditorium, but Lua had been intent on waiting for her friend.

“Hey,” she gave a bright smile, “I came to see you.”

“I know,” the smaller girl chuckled, “I saw you before, remember?”

Lua’s cheeks flushed a bright red as she rubbed the back of her neck.

“Ah, right…”

Yoojung tugged out of Lua’s grip, moving to tap the taller girl’s forehead gently with her index finger.

“No need to be embarrassed, hon. So, what’re you up to now? You free until that Alpha party tomorrow?”

Lua gave a slow nod, her face still warm.

“Awesome. Wanna come to my dorm? I was thinking about dying my hair- Oh my gosh! We could do yours, too. You’d look so cute as a blonde!”

Truthfully, Lua had never even thought about dying her hair.

There were more important things to worry about in life than the color of her hair.

Plus, it wasn’t like she ever socialized with people outside of Yoojung and the other students that she was forced to interact with in her classes.

But if Yoojung thought she’d look cute, she’d do it.

If Lua were being completely honest with herself, she’d probably do anything that Yoojung asked of her.

Because they were best friends.

Right?

“I’m going to take your silence as a yes,” Yoojung cut in with a giggle.

She leaned in a bit closer to Lua, her lips lingering a millimeter from her ear.

“Oh, and I forgot. I also may have gotten a new strain for us to try together. Courtesy of campus’ favorite plug, Miss Heehyun Ki.”

When she pulled back, Yoojung gave Lua a quick wink.

Her face still a light pink, the younger girl shrugged.

If there was weed involved, she definitely couldn’t say no to Yoojung.

Well, not that she could resist Yoojung in general, really.

-

Lol not to make Lua sound like a bad person in this, but I just realized that I ended Lua's storyline in both of the first chapters with her saying that she can’t resist alcohol/drugs. My bad lmao. It’s just kind of the personality I’m building for her in this I guess. Anywayyy, hope you enjoyed this chapter. Sorry if it seemed short. I already have some ideas for future chapters though, so hopefully I’ll update again soon. However, I just got hired for a new job today, so I may not have as much free time to write as I have in the past. Anyhoo, thanks again for reading!

Chapter 4: One question: When Suyeon says "You just made the biggest mistake of your life," what she talking to Elly or Rina? Because I can read it either way and it makes a big difference which one it is.

Otherwise, WOW! Another great update! I love the shy/uncertain way you're writing Sei - I want to see her and Lucy get together, but I want Lucy to have to work for it!

I'm curious to see where you take the Lua-Yoojung storyline. And I can't wait to see Suyeon get a relationship! Keep up the great work!
