Boyfriend

Best Friends?

Double update. yey!!!

Obviously, nothing happened between you and Seokmin but you did end up crashing at his place last night. You were just supposed to chill there for a while but then you decided to open his fridge and found three bottles of wine inside. With a huge grin on your face, you brought one out for you both to drink as if the alcohol you’ve been drinking since earlier that night wasn’t enough.

Two bottles later, you were way too drunk to make your way back home and Seokmin was exactly the same so he couldn’t take you there either. The next day, you woke up comfortably tucked in bed. You were pretty sure you fell asleep on the kitchen floor but you figured that Seokmin probably brought you to his room while you were asleep.

Speaking of him, you looked around for the guy and even called out for him multiple times but he didn’t seem to be there. You sluggishly shifted to lie on your other side. On his nightstand, you noticed a little note with your name written on it. Your head was pounding. Your body felt really heavy too so it took you a lot of effort to even reach for the piece of paper.

You eventually got a hold of it, reading it with only one eye open. In the note, he explained to you that he had to leave early in the morning because of a group meeting he had to go to. He said he was sorry and that he didn’t have the heart to wake you up because you were sleeping too soundly.

He told you not to worry though as he left you medicine for your hangover and already made you something to eat so you can just heat it up later. He also laid out a fresh set of clothes for you to change in, a new towel and even a new toothbrush.

Despite the pain you’re feeling, you couldn’t help but smile at his kind and thoughtful gesture. Typical, Lee Seokmin. He’s always looking out for you, always way too nice. You let out a small sigh as you put the note back. You closed your eyes one more time, giving yourself a couple minutes more to relax on his comfy bed.

When you felt like you were ready, you finally got out of bed but you may have stood up too suddenly though because the moment you were on your feet, you wobbled like your legs were made of jelly. You felt so dizzy you had to hold your pounding head to support it. You winced at the pain, quickly snatching the medicine Seokmin left for you on his nightstand and popping it in your mouth.

Carefully, with your hand still holding your head, you walked towards his bathroom to take a quick shower. You pretty much just went on with what you would normally do in the morning afterwards. You kept your dirty clothes away in your purse after changing into Seokmin’s clothes and made sure to clean up after yourself when you were done eating.

You also wrote him a note, thanking him and promising him you’ll return his clothes right way. Then, you were off.  When you were in the elevator, looking at your distorted reflection on the steel doors, you realized how much of a mess you actually looked like.

No wonder the people inside the elevator with you were giving you weird looks. You looked like you had a rough night. Your hair wasn’t fully dry yet so there was a huge wet spot just below your chest where your hair stopped.

The neck hole was lopsidedly sitting near your shoulder, Seokmin’s shirt looking a little too big on you. His basketball shorts were big on you too but it was a good thing it was adjustable at the waist or it would have fallen off when you walked. And then your shoes… you can’t even stand looking at them.

Your once perfectly white tennis shoes now had stains of who knows what on them. You looked bad… like, really bad and everyone else seemed to think so too but you didn’t care that much though. You had other things to worry about.

The bus ride back to your place was admittedly excruciating. Your head was still throbbing, the medicine you took yet take effect and it was making you very sensitive. Every little thing, be it the sounds around you or any minor inconveniences agitated you so much you wanted to just burst into tears right then and there.

You dragged your heavy body up the steps of your apartment complex, not bothering to greet anyone back as you walked to the lift. Though, you did feel a little bit better when you saw your front door. It was such a relief walking towards it.

And as you punched in your passcode, you let a faint smile slip on your lips. You could already imagine throwing yourself onto your bed and going on a mini hibernation but the moment you opened the door, your thoughts of having a peaceful day completely vanished.

An angry Wonwoo, who looked like the nerves at the side of his temples were going to pop, greeted you with a vicious scowl. He was yelling at you the moment you set foot into your own apartment. You only flinched, covering your ears. This was not what you needed right now. You didn’t even bother to register any of his words in your mind.

You tossed your purse onto your couch and went straight to the kitchen to get yourself a glass of water. This entire time, Wonwoo followed you around, still screaming his ing head off. You would’ve shouted back at him to shut up and calm the down but you were too exhausted to raise your voice or even speak. You only sighed deeply and rubbed at your temples to ease the pain a little.

. I hate alcohol,” you murmured to yourself before turning to Wonwoo, slamming your hand on the counter top to get his attention. Thankfully, he shut his mouth. It was only then, when you actually looked at him, that you noticed how Wonwoo didn’t look so good either. He looked like he didn’t get a wink of sleep last night and he was even still wearing his clothes from the party.

“Wonwoo, please,” you pleaded softly, your eyes closing shut. “My head is still kind of aching. I don’t want to do this with you right now.” The guy was relentless though. He started shouting at you again when you finished your sentence. You flinched once more. You couldn’t properly make out what he was saying but it was along the lines of, “Did you actually ing sleep with Seokmin?”

You held your hand out at him, wanting him to shut up again so you can actually think straight. You shook your head lightly as you finally felt the pain fade away. “No, I didn’t…” you mumbled with your head hung low. Wonwoo surprisingly kept quiet. You couldn’t hear his heavy breathing anymore and the tension in the air didn’t feel as thick as before.

When you decided to look up, you saw the shock and confusion swirling in his tired looking eyes. You let out a weary sigh. You walked around your kitchen counter to move closer to him. It was about time you two stopped acting like children and actually talked like proper adults.

Nibbling uneasily on your bottom lip, you tentatively slipped your hand into his and looked up at him to gauge his reaction. He snapped out of his daze at your touch. He blinked at you several times and even squeezed your hand once as if he was checking if this was all real.

Your lips tugged into a faint, longing smile. All in that single touch, you felt warmth prickle in your skin and spread into your bones. It was then that you realized how much you actually missed Wonwoo. Not the Wonwoo you’re dealing with right now but the Wonwoo who you actually fell in love with, your best friend, your Wonwoo.

You couldn’t help but stare at him for a while longer. As strange as it may sound, you even missed staring at him too. Your eyes flit from his eyebrows to his lashes to his beautiful orbs then down to his sharp nose, plump lips and even those two faint moles on his neck that you can barely see if you don’t look hard enough. You missed all of that.

He’s still so handsome to you despite looking like a completely wreck right now. And then you felt it… your heart beat, steadily picking up its pace and pounding so hard against your rib cage you thought the little organ was going to break it.

Wonwoo was looking at you too, drinking in your visuals, familiarizing himself again with how immaculate you looked like up close. He shifted a little, wanting to move closer to you but he wasn’t sure if you were okay with it.

His fingers were fidgeting against your palm. He wanted to let go so he could pull you in for a hug. He just missed you so, so much that his mind was practically going blank now just wanting to feel you and your comforting warmth again.

When you sensed what Wonwoo wanted to do though, you finally looked away. You awkwardly cleared your throat and lead him to your living room so you guys could talk comfortably. You saw the slight disappointment on his face but he didn’t protest. He just quietly followed you.

You both silently took a seat on your couch and stayed silent for a while too. You don’t know why but you were suddenly reminded of the day after you confessed. Maybe it was how you were seated, how you were right next to your window and he was at your left exactly like that day. Maybe it was how you were looking outside because it was beginning to rain while he stared at you. Or maybe it was all of that.

It just felt familiar to you and you honestly didn’t like it. That was the day when everything started to fall apart and being reminded of it was the last thing you wanted. Briefly closing your eyes, you in a calming breath and exhaled slowly through your mouth. You wanted to say something but you didn’t know what to say or where to even start.

You just felt like there were too many things you two needed to talk about. You were nibbling on your bottom lip again without even noticing, making Wonwoo chuckle in complete fondness. He even missed that about you, the little habits you do when you were unsure or thinking too much of things.

He shook his head lightly at his own thoughts, his eyes landing on your hands that were on top of your lap. He wanted very much to hold your hand again. He wanted to feel the warmth that only you can give him but again, he wasn’t sure.

His eyes flitted back up to your face, wondering if it would be okay with you but you were still lost in your thoughts and staring off into the distance. Wonwoo cracked into the most sincere smile he’s ever mustered these past few months as he held your hand gently, hesitantly. Your train of thought stopped almost immediately and you snapped your head to his direction.

“Tell me what really happened,” Wonwoo suddenly said in the calmest voice he’s ever used since all your petty fights started. It was a tone he usually used with you before this whole mess, a tone only you had the privilege of hearing. It was gentle and sweet, one that always made you feel secure somehow.

Your heart swelled hearing it. You wanted to cry but this time, out of happiness. You saw a little bit of the old Wonwoo just now and it gave you a sense of hope. You tried to keep your tears at bay, swallowing hard as you prepared yourself for a different type of confession.

“We…” you began, your voice small and timid. You bit hard on your lip, suddenly feeling reluctant but Wonwoo caressed your knuckles soothingly, encouraging you to go on with a small nod of his head.  So you did. “We only pretended like we were going to sleep together to piss you off…” you trailed, dropping your head because of the shame you felt.

Wonwoo didn’t say anything. He was only staring at you, now playing with your fingers. A blanket of silence fell over you but unlike before, a thick, suffocating tension didn’t come with it. For the first time in a long while, it was calm and peaceful. Slowly, as the comfortable silence dragged on, you leaned back on the couch. Your head felt much better but your exhaustion from moments ago came back.

You had your eyes glued to your hand as you watched Wonwoo play with your fingers. “Did you get what you wanted?” he softly asked, breaking the silence. Your drooping eyes darted to his face. The way he said it didn’t sound mean or aggressive. He actually sounded like he was teasing and being playful. He even had a cheeky grin on his face. You were surprised for a second but you quickly played along.

You raised your eyebrow cockily at him. “By the looks of it earlier? Yes, I got what wanted,” you joked back, sporting a cheeky grin of your own. Wonwoo then rolled his eyes. He faked a frown and went, “I ing hate you. Do you know that?” A bubbling laughter emitted from your lips and you threw your head back.

It had been a long time since he’s heard it and for the weirdest of reasons, your laugh sounded more beautiful to his ears now than it had ever did before. Suddenly, the beating of his heart felt different. When your laughter died down, you looked at Wonwoo again and found him smiling at you in the way that he always did when he found you endearing.

His was eyes were sparkling brightly, a stark contrast from earlier when they were dull and lifeless. “At least try to sound more convincing than that, Jeon Wonwoo,” you said with a small smirk on your lips. Wonwoo chuckled and shook his head. He leaned back on your couch as well and turned his head to just look at you. He was quite close but you didn’t feel any discomfort this time.

Gradually, he stopped playing with your fingers. He didn’t let go of your hand just yet though. It was just there on top of yours. Silence fell upon you once again but this time, it didn’t last that long. You heard Wonwoo heave a deep sigh and you finally turned to face, trying to ignore how much closer your proximity was. Your heart was going haywire but you did your best to hide it.

“What were we even doing? Riling each other up like that?” His voice was still soft. There was a hint of confusion there and in the way his brows pinched together as he searched your eyes. You suddenly felt butterflies attack your stomach. Looking into his eyes this close felt like the first time when you realized you had feelings for him. Your entire face felt warm.

As much as you wanted to squirm and look away, his dazzling orbs kept you in place. You were so struck by him that you couldn’t exactly speak at the moment. The only thing you could do was faintly shrug your shoulders. He let out a small sigh, looking down as he laced your fingers together. That was when you were able to get a hold of yourself again and find your words.

“I-I don’t know really, Wonwoo…” You sighed too. “I just… suddenly got so mad at you and I let it get to me.” Hearing it come out of your own mouth felt like a slap of reality. You knew. You knew that you were being driven by your anger, your pain and your ing pride yet you still did what you did. How ing stupid of you…

“I can’t believe I thought it was a good idea to take the bait and play your ing game though…” he muttered back in a frustrated tone. He closed his eyes shut, his brows furrowed heavily. “I even dragged your cousin into this… You were right. I am a ing .”

He looked very ashamed with himself as he said it. You could see the guilt and regret written all over his face and you couldn’t help but empathize with him. After all, he wasn’t the only one who dragged an innocent person into the chaos.

“D-Don’t worry though…” he suddenly said, unable to look you in eyes anymore. “I broke it off with her and explained everything.” Your eyes widened a tiny bit. “Really? How did she take it?” Wonwoo momentarily looked at you then frowned deeply. “She broke my windshield…” he replied in a quiet, embarrassed sounding voice.

You had to bite down on your bottom lip to hide your smile and stop yourself from laughing right at his face. Your cousin was nothing like you but what she did sounded like something you would most definitely do. It was so amusing to you that your once innocent little cousin showed this feisty side of her. And you kind of thought he deserved that for being the that he was to her.

Wonwoo playfully scowled at you for your reaction, throwing your hand away and crossing his arms. “Don’t laugh! I felt my soul leave my ing body when she did that. I thought she was going to smash that ing rock on my head but she went and took her anger out on my poor car!” You couldn’t handle his cute whining and just ended up burst into laughter.

You Wonwoo disheveled hair, telling him it was okay in a cooing tone. He’s never once blushed at your teasing but his cheeks were strangely burning. Wanting to quickly divert the attention, he randomly asked you if you perhaps told Seokmin the truth as well. Your smile faded as you nodded your head in response.

You’re much luckier than Wonwoo. Seokmin wasn’t the least bit angry with you but that fact only made it worse for you and your conscience. With a sad sigh, you told him exactly what happened and how it went with Seokmin. He listened to you in silence and only nodded his after you finished telling him everything.

“He really is a good guy…” he muttered to himself under his breath. You heard it though so you went, “And you had to—” You did air bunnies for emphasis, “—warn me about him.” You rolled your eyes at the mere memory of it. “He’s basically harmless.” Wonwoo didn’t even bother looking at you anymore. He just kept his mouth shut and his eyes down.

“But… on a more serious note, I want to apologize to you, Wonwoo.” Since you were conversing more comfortably now, you finally had the courage to say this. He still wasn’t looking at you so you squeezed his hand to get his attention. When he finally looked up at you, you continued. “I started it… I’ll admit that. I’m sorry.”

He quickly shook his head to disagree and reached up to hold your face. “I should be the one apologizing,” he told you, his eyes darting from one orb to another. “I started it, not you. I started it the very moment I barged into that empty classroom and yelled at you, the moment I kept getting raging mad for no proper reason.”

“I mean…” His eyes strayed away from yours for a brief moment before he continued to speak and said, “Maybe I did have a reason but I was still completely out of line. I don’t know where it was coming from! Or… Well… I think I did know… Maybe? Kind of, I guess but—”

“You’re rambling, Wonwoo,” you cut him off quietly as you cupped his hands on your face. You gently brought them down and held onto them instead. “I-I know…” He awkwardly chuckled and looked down at your hands. Although you felt bad that he was struggling, you couldn’t help but let a smile slip on your lips. He was just being so adorable right now.

He took a deep breath to get himself together. “I just want to say that I’m really sorry and I mean it. I’m so sorry. I’m just… I’m just really ing stupid.” You laughed quietly, your nose scrunching in the slightest. “Well, that makes two of us. That’s probably why we’re best friends.”

Wonwoo almost immediately cracked into smile and laughed along with you but his laughter died down much earlier than yours and he’s suddenly serious again. “Are we still best friends though? That night… when you found out about me and your cousin, you said you weren’t my best friend anymore…”

You fell completely silent, the tips of your smiling lips flattening out. You didn’t know what to say. You almost forgot that you even said that. You kept telling Seokmin and yourself that you really do not consider Wonwoo your best friend anymore during those times but it was the anger talking. You didn’t think you actually meant it.

“I forgot I said that…” you admitted in a small voice. You let out a hollow chuckle and slowly slipped your hands out of his hold. “Did you mean it?” You can see the hurt swirling in his orbs. It seemed as though he was begging you to say no but it wasn’t just a simple yes or no question for you. You turned away from him completely this time, thinking about what to reply.

You smiled bitterly to yourself. “To tell you the truth, I’m still not over you.” You tried to widen your smile to show him that despite not being able to move on yet you were okay but you couldn’t do it. Instead, you just sighed. “I still need time to sort myself out before I can be your best friend again. I have to get rid of this first, you know? I’m sorry. I’m sorry I’m like this… I really am.”

You were looking down at your hands and fidgeting with your own fingers when you felt Wonwoo cup your cheek. He turned your head but before you could look at him or even completely face him, he pressed his lips onto yours.

Your eyes widened at the unexpectedness of it and you felt yourself freeze. His other hand made its way to your waist, pulling you closer as he tried to deepen the kiss. You felt his tongue swipe at your bottom lip and so you snapped out of your shock enough to push him away gently. “Wonwoo, w-what are you doing?” you stammered, panicking for some reason.

He blinked once, looking just as shocked and panicked as you. “Sh-. I didn’t—That was— I’m sorry!” He quickly took his hands off of you and shot up from your couch. He stared at you for a moment, opening his mouth as if he was going to try and explain but he closed it back up right away.

Wonwoo ran his fingers through his hair anxiously, gripping onto it tight and closing his eyes shut. He looked like he was trying to process whatever it was that just happened, figuring out why in the world he decided to randomly kiss you while you sat there in utter silence feeling horribly awkward. You just kept your head down because you didn’t know what else to do at that moment.

After a while, Wonwoo mumbled out an apology again and suddenly just… left. He didn’t even say goodbye to you. He just turned around and walked out of your apartment without looking back. You let out a slow exhale, not knowing you had been holding your breath.

You slowly wrapped your hands around yourself and just stared blankly at the floor. You were confused, to say the least. Wonwoo kissed you. He kissed out of nowhere and you didn’t know what to make of that at all.

You thought you already made up with Wonwoo. At least, it felt like you did. Five days passed, almost an entire week since that little incident and Wonwoo hasn’t talked or shown himself to you since. You felt kind of sad at first but really, maybe this was the best that you two could do for now.

Your friendship had been severed way too much. It’ll take probably quite a while to piece back together and it would definitely not be easy. Sighing for the nth time that day, you stared off into the distance and tapped your pen on your notebook.

You’re just slowly coming into terms with all of this. You reminded yourself that you shouldn’t be too down about it. That instead, you should be content that there was no more bad blood between you and Wonwoo anymore, that although things aren’t back to normal, at least both your lives seemed a lot more peaceful now.

You were about to go back to what you were doing after spacing out for god knows how long when a body suddenly sat themselves next to you. They even bumped your shoulder with theirs to catch your attention. You weren’t supposed to pay them any mind but then they said, “What were you thinking about?” Almost immediately, your head snapped at the very familiar voice. Your eyes rounded.

Wonwoo was sitting beside you. He was smiling brightly at you, leaving you completely dumbstruck. You had to blink several times to make sure he was actually there, that you weren’t missing him too much you were starting to hallucinate. “W-Wonwoo?” you so dumbly muttered as you snapped out of your shock. He laughed heartily with his nose scrunching up.

“Yeah? It’s me, you dumby. Did you forget what I looked like or something?” You wanted to laugh or smile at least but you just furrowed your brows at him in confusion instead. He was just… acting so casual with you. Too casual, if anything, that you didn’t know what to do.

It was like the months of you not properly talking to each other and all the fighting never even happened, like he didn’t just ignore you for five days straight and you two were perfectly fine. It was very… strange.

You felt like you were tripping and you just kept staring at him like he was growing a second head. He right stared back, his eyes dancing at the sight of you. With his nose scrunched, he reached for your cheek and lightly pinched at the flesh. “What are you being so cute for? I think I just missed you ten times more now.”

The little pinch finally made you get back to your senses. Slowly, you took his hand off your face and asked him if everything was okay. He merely nodded in response, holding onto your hand when he got the chance.

All this time, his smile didn’t leave his face and you were admittedly getting affected by it. Your lips slowly tugged at the tips and mimicked the same smile he had on his face. The little organ in your chest was all too happy and excited, jumping all over the place and being way too loud in there.

Wonwoo let his eyes roam all over your face as he sighed in content, feeling a type of ease with you finally there. “It is now,” was his belated answer. Still confused though, you innocently asked, “W-What does that mean? Are… we okay?” At that, he gave you yet another joyful nod.

You only chuckled, raising your eyebrow at him for acting weird. You wanted to be creeped out but that permanent smile on his face was really turning your brain into mush. You couldn’t focus on anything else except that anymore.

He tucked your hair behind your ear gently and caressed your cheek with his thumb as he called your name. You hummed, melting at his soft touch. “Do you still have feelings me?” You were dreamily looking at Wonwoo but after hearing that, your eyes almost popped out of their sockets.

You felt your cheeks and ears burn in an instant. You were quick to avert your gaze, chuckling rather nervously as you went, “W-What kind of a question is that?” You were trying to sound like your normal self but Wonwoo knew you too well.

In your peripheral vision, you could see him raising an amused eyebrow at you so you ended up dropping your head. You looked down at your hands and played with the sleeves of your cardigan. You felt so ing shy it was absolutely ridiculous. He chuckled at that, reaching over and holding your chin to make you look up at him. “Yes or no?” he said, laughing a little.

You just pouted. He seemed like he already knew the answer but he wanted you to actually say it. There was a tiny smirk playing on his lips and it really annoyed you. “What the do you think?” you countered back as you pulled away from his hold, crossing your arms like a toddler throwing a tantrum. Wonwoo laughed even more.

“Is that a yes?” You only looked away while Wonwoo so cockily nodded to himself and smiled. Not far from where you were, you saw Seokmin waving at you and coming your way. “I see you two have finally made up!” Seokmin said the moment he was close enough. He grinned at your best friend but he, in turn, just rolled his eyes. His mood turned a complete one-eighty when he saw Seokmin.

The latter chose to ignore that. He walked around the table to sit next to you and went, “About time, Wonwoo! She’s been moping around the past few days.” You widened your eyes at Seokmin, warning him to shut up but he didn’t notice it because he was looking at Wonwoo. “What happened?” he casually probed.

The taller male scowled at him. “It’s really none of your ing business—” he started off, sounding rather hostile. “—but just so she’d know too…” he continued in a soft voice, a complete opposite of how he spoke to Seokmin as he briefly glanced at you. “I just needed some time to mull things over. I just wanted to be very sure of things…”

This time, he was looking right at you and it made you a little bit flustered.  His eyes… they held something meaningful in them but you couldn’t place what it was. He set a warm and affectionate gaze upon you, his pupils gradually dilating right before your own eyes.

You didn’t understand all that but the moment Seokmin saw it for himself, he knew. He knew what that look meant because more than once before, he’s looked at you the exact same way. He couldn’t help but smile at that despite the slight pang in his chest.

“You’re so biased. You talk to her like she’s a little baby but to me? You talk to me like I killed your father or something,” Seokmin joked, effectively making you two break eye contact. You were chuckling at his comment, Wonwoo glaring at him for it.

“What are you doing here, Seok? Do you need anything?” you wondered, giving him your full attention now. The boy sheepishly rubbed his neck and went, “Well, you said you wanted a ride to the mall to buy something to wear for your internship interview. Should I still—”

“Her boyfriend will do it!” Wonwoo blurted out. You and Seokmin snapped your heads to his direction with you shooting him a weird look. “My what? I don’t have a boyfriend.” As you raised an eyebrow at him, you saw him slowly break into yet another handsome, butterfly inducing smile.

Carefully, Wonwoo took your hand again and laced yours fingers together. He leaned forward until his face was so close you could feel his breath on your lips. You were stuck frozen, your brain completely shutting down on you in that very moment. “Now you do,” you heard him whisper just before his lips softly crashed against yours.

Chapter 5: Can’t believe it just ended!
I was a Wonwoo’s stan at first but I quickly changed my mind after Seokmin came into picture. I’m sorry but for me, Seokmin was an angel, a life-saver, an understanding lover and a caring best friend. I really needs him in my life, my real life right now.
RinaBelle #3
Chapter 4: Gosh, Seokmin is definitely my favorite character here. He’s so lobing, understanding and sincere. I think I’ve fallen for him.
RinaBelle #4
Chapter 3: Seokmin’s confession was so sweet and so beautiful. I especially like that phrase “...just hearing the sound of you breathing even.” And another one “...I don’t know my heart beats differently when it’s you.” Seriously, if I were her, I’d date the guy.
RinaBelle #5
Chapter 2: Oh God, I cried a river. Her words were heartbreaking and I totally could relate.

Chapter 5: I started to ship seokmin with her at the middle. He is to sweet, (we all know how lovable seokmin is) such a boyfriend material but my ultimate bias is wonwoo so its definitely okay to me if she ended up with wonwoo.

Yes, we want a sequel. Thank you author-nim for a wonderfull wonwoo fan fic.
