The Silent Boy

A new term has started in Jamsil Middle School. Jamsil Middle school will soon welcome new students, who will be studying in Middle School for the very first time.

Son Chaeyoung is a 12 year old boy, who lives in Seoul. He has recently graduated from Elementary School and will now study in Jamsil Middle School.

Son Chaeyoung is a regular teenage boy, who has huge interest in art. He's often seen sketching on his sketchbook during his free time.

However, there is one thing that sets him apart from teenagers his age. Teenagers his age are usually very talkative and social. He, on the other hand is a very quiet boy. Maybe quiet isn't even a correct term. Noone, aside from his mother, has ever heard him speak. As a result, he was often bullied at school and had no friends.

Son Chaeyoung's mother is a single mother who works multiple jobs to make ends meet. She had Chaeyoung when she was only 18, she had just graduated from high school at the time. The painful memory of her having to leave her loved ones behind is still fresh in her mind. As if it's just yesterday. She remembered being very nervous, delivering the news to her loved ones at the time.

{Flashback}
It was a Saturday, her boyfriend decided to visit her, as he was informed that his girlfriend was sick. He knocked on the door, her mother opened the door to be met with a good-looking teenager far taller than she was, smiling brightly, holding a basket full of different types of fruits. Her mother was used to the boy's presence, for her and the boy were very active in the student council's club activity. However, it was odd seeing the boy visitting, as they had finished school.

"Oh, Are you looking for Jihyo? Do you guys still have activities at the school together?" Her mother questioned.

"No, Ma'am. I'm just visitting as a .... friend. I heard that she was sick. I bought some fruits. Can I visit her?" Her boyfriend politely asked, handing her mother the basket of fruits. He didn't say boyfriend as her parents didn't know that they were in a relationship.

"Sure, yeah. Thank you for visitting, dear. She's in her room. It's been a few days since she was't feeling well. Thank you for visitting, dear." Her mother took the basket, then let him in.

He thanked her mother then headed to his girlfriend's room. He knocked then waited. His girlfriend opened the door. She looked very pale. She quickly lied back down on bed again, her boyfriend closed the door for her. He got on the bed, then cuddled with her.

"Babe, have you taken medicine yet?" He asked, concerned, holding her hand, rubbing her hand with his thumb.

"There's something you need to know." Jihyo nervously declared, her palms and forehead sweating.

"What is it?" He asked, giving her a peck on her forehead.

"There's something on my desk. Just look!" She weakly said.

He left the bed then walked to her desk, then he saw it. A pregnancy test, he hoped, that it wasn't what he thought.

He gulped, prayed over and over again in his head, "Please one line, one line"

However, the results window showed two lines. He was beyond terrified. His hands started shaking uncontrollably, his palms and forehead started to sweat. His father would kill him, if he knew. He was the Son's corp one and only heir, the pride of the family.

He went to his girlfriend's side, held her hand, kneeled then pleaded, "Please abort the baby!"

"WHAT!?" she bellowed. Tears started streaming down her face. The boy he loved wanted to kill his own flesh and blood. How could he?

"Jihyo, we're both too young for this. I need to take over my father's company someday. Me having a child when I'm just 18 would ruin my reputation. You still want to be a doctor, don't you? You won't be able to focus if you're pregnant. Please, do this for us!" He reasoned.

"You're selfish. I hate you." She glowered.

"How could you even think about killing your own flesh and blood?" She questioned, voice cracking due to her crying.

"Jihyo, I promise I will give you a child in the future, when I'm successful, but definitely not now" He begged.

She couldn't take it anymore. How could he?

"I'm breaking up with you. Now, get out!" She dropped the bomb.

"Babe, please! I love you, but I'm not ready to become a father" He pleaded, tears streaming down his face.

"How can I love a monster, who plans to kill his own child?" She sarcastically asked.

Then, they both just silently cried in her room.

He then decided that perhaps they needed some space, "Think about our future, Jihyo! I'll visit again tomorrow!"

He wiped his girlfriend's tears, kissed her cheeks, let go of her hand then, glanced at his girlfriend, one last time.

"She'll change her mind tomorrow" he thought.

He then headed home. Little did he know, that it would be the last time he saw her.

After her boyfriend left, she cried loudly. She loved him with all her heart, to the point that she was willing to give him her V card, but if he couldn't even love his own child, then he didn't deserve to be a man.

Long after that, she heard a knock on the door. Her mother gently asked, "Honey, are you fit enough to eat at the dining room, or do I need to deliver your dinner to your room?"

"I'll head to the dining room. Don't worry, mom!" she assured her mom.

"Don't force yourself, okay, honey!" Her mother cooed.

She then headed to the dining room. Her father had just come home from work. Not long after, they started digging on their food.

"So, Jihyo, when do they announce the CSAT result?" Her father asked.

She gulped then nervously announced, "I'm pretty sure, it's next week, but whatever the result is, I have decided not to go to university for a while"

Her parents stopped eating, then looked at her with horrified expression.

"I'm pregnant" she timidly declared.

Her father took some time to process, before ordering her in a low and dangerous tone, "Pack your bags and leave this house!"

Her mother on the other hand was too shocked to say anything.

"Dad, I.." she tried to explain, but was quickly cut off.

"GET OUT!" Her father bellowed.

She then headed to her room to pack her stuffs. Tears were streaming down her face endlessly. After she was done, she glanced at her parents, one last time. Her mother was crying, her father was trying to hold his anger. She couldn't bare to look at her parents' disappointed faces, so she left them.

She didn't know what to do, she could go to her friend's place, but she imagined that news would spread like wildfire and she didn't want to be the topic of gossip. Moreover, it also would hurt her boyfriend's reputation. She cursed herself for still caring about him. She then decided to head to the bus station. She asked the clerk, if there was any bus available. She was in luck, as the last bus was available and the destination was to Seoul. So, off to Seoul she went.

After she arrived in Seoul, things just got even harder for her. She had to work hard to be able to afford rent, food, etc. The fact that she was pregnant wasn't helping as well, she had really, really terrible morning sickness, and she was easily tired. However, she knew she had to work hard for her soon-to-be born baby, so she gritted her teeth and endured everything.

Despite the low income she got, she had to save up to buy baby's necessities, like diapers, baby clothes, baby bottle, milk, and etc. She knew her salary would never be enough, so she sold her necklace, a graduation gift from her boyfriend for her. Only then did she manage to buy everything.

After nine months, she finally gave birth to a healthy, beautiful, baby boy. She named the boy, Son Chaeyoung.

Chapter 14: Mr. Son needs to be extra patient. Chaeyoung has gone through too much. I don't really blame Mina for not coming. How would she have known Jihyo passed away?

This needs a sequel. It really breaks my heart when Chaeyoung apologize for not being normal and Jihyo cries. Nothing hurts a parent knowing your child is being bullied and being unable to do anything. What Mr. Son did was cruel. It seems like he didn't care. He didn't reach out for the past 12 years and now he came out of nowhere to snatch Chaeyoung away. He should've continued to let Chaeyoung keep in touch with Sana as that's what's familiar to him. Although he's Chaeyoung's father, he never really played a role so now he gotta get to know him from the beginning. Jihyo means everything to Chaeyoung, Sana can never replace her but at least she's always been around
