Chapter 1
Come and Dream a DreamShivering slightly, she opened her eyes and looked around her. Gone was the comfort of her warm bed. Instead, she was surrounded by complete darkness. After a few moments of utter confusion, she realized that she would surely need to calm herself down, in order to figure out exactly where she was. With her hands extended, she took a few steps and collided into a tall tree. Everywhere she looked, she could only make out the outline of long intertwined branches in that dark, dense forest. Feeling slightly brave, she walked towards a clearing, only to hear the sounds of howls approaching her slowly. With her heart in , she looked around her frantically, but there was nowhere to run; nowhere to hide. Backing away slowly, she could almost see the darkness seep around her, like mist. It stopped in front of her and seemed to morph into a shape. The shape of a person. Afraid but still intrigued, she fought against her initial response to flee. The person who appeared from the darkness was more than majestic. He possessed a dark aura around him which made it seem like he was glowing. He paused and stared at her for a while before advancing to her; slowly; menacingly. His mouth widened into a sinister grin, to reveal pointed teeth. He was one of the creatures from her worst nightmare, come to life. “Come to me”, he said, as he beckoned to her. Against her better judgment, almost as if she was hypnotized, her legs started moving towards him. Her mind and body were at conflict with each other, as she struggled to comprehend what was happening to her. So, this was his power; controlling people’s bodies instead of their minds. He extended his arm behind her and twirled his finger round and round. She turned around to see her shadow changing shape. Instead of her form, it now resembled a whirlpool. What was he, and what was he trying to do? With bated breath, she watched silently as he absorbed a bit of her shadow. His eyes became brighter and she studied his face as he extended his hand to touch her. She shivered as his fingers caressed the side of her face before absorbing more of her shadow. His face seemed like it was carved by the gods themselves, with his alabaster skin, sharp features, deep red eyes, and that honey blonde hair. When his mouth was closed, he almost resembled Adonis. One could only tell that he was a monster when his sharp teeth were visible. He was dressed in a suit, which made him look rather normal. She tried to run but was still under his spell as she found that she couldn’t move a single muscle. Would she die is this place? It didn’t seem as if the monster would let her go. As she plotted her escape, a twig crackled, which took his attention away from her momentarily. Seizing the opportunity, she ran as fast as she could, before the shadow creature could catch her again.
